.....tell me this was only a joke, or a bad dream, or whatever you want but not real!

I read somewhere that Judy Murray will take the lead of the British fed cup team soon. A disgrace.

Why on earth appoint someone whose sole merit is to have mothered a player for the job, I struggle to understand..

Expect: Federer's mother to run the WTA, Nadal's mother Prime Minister soon!

From the Times (PPV)

a single family have never had a firmer stranglehold on the top flight of British tennis than the Murrays do.

just to put some perspective on HE's usual selective (anti-all-things-Murray-related) quoting, here's another quote from Neil Harman

"[Murray's appointment] is belated recognition that few people in the game have more coaching skills and a desire to share them with as many people as possible."

For the record, she nurtured Andy to n°4 in the world, and can hardly do a worse job than the current incumbents. Just out of interest PM, why do you consider this appointment "a disgrace"?

Judy Murray is replacing Nigel Sears, who is the father of Andy Murray's long-term girlfriend.

I am sad because from now on Judy will have little time to write her very interesting twits, like for example the Deliciano Ode.......

BTW why would you hire someone who has "nurtured" players rather the the ones who actually did some old syle coaching to them Doh

Leon Smith is probably the least experienced British captain in history, having neither played Davis Cup nor coached full-time on the professional circuit... Would Smith be the Davis Cup captain without his link with the British number one? Almost certainly not....

The LTA risks a backlash after ignoring the claims of the obvious candidate, Greg Rusedski, a veteran of 43 Davis Cup rubbers who was supported, if not by Murray, by a number of the other players.... LTA player director Steven Martins who made the appointment after consulting the British top 10, was at pains to point out he wasn't running a "popularity contest". A number of votes for Rusedski proved insufficient as Martens decided instead to go down the diplomatic route. (I presume by "diplomatic" it means non democratic)

Do you approve of nepotism generally or only when it involves Andy Murray ?

Andy Murray is on record in saying that the LTA ruined his brother Jamie. It seems likely that Judy Murray shares to some extent that view, considering he was taken down an alternate path by his mother.

Is this the type of person needed by the LTA?

Does it really matter ?

Why not just let her have a go and see what happens?

I mean, can she be any worse than what's gone before?

P_M can I assume you didn't approve of Judy Murray's appointment as Scottish national coach 8 or 9 years ago? Or when Elana Baltacha hired her as a coach?
Presumably 'sole merit' doesn't include all her previous coaching experience (not related to her sons)?

All right, I'll regretfully give Judy a chance, although I will regret this most likely . What would you expect from someone idolizing Feli Lopez Please, Please, Please 1054138444

I like Jo Durie too! She would be excellent. Why didn't I think of her... Somehow I didn't think she'd be your type.

Personally I think Jo's less qualified in a coaching/captaining role, but maybe she can take over when Judy fails.
