Great catches Empty Great catches

Post by Mat Wed 14 Dec 2011, 7:52 pm

Following on from CF's thread about great fielders of today, thought I'd create a thread to discuss our favourite catches.

For me one of the most enjoyable things to watch in a Cricket game(Is that a bit sad?) is a great catch. Be it in the slips, close in, in the circle or on the boundary, a great catch can change a game. As the old saying goes, catches win matches!

These are a few of my favourite's...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WMEXP4G9sM

Probably quite an obvious one, Collingwood catching Hayden.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpui20lBwwI

3rd one in the video, Geraint Jones catching Warne at Old Trafford after Strauss dropped him at 3rd slip.

And Strauss' catch at the end of the video.

Was trying to find a video of a catch I remember, think it was by AB De Villiers behind the stumps. The batsman inside edged the ball, and he dived across and caught it. But alas it cannot be found.

Kyle Coetzer of Scotland against South Africa in the T20 WC:

And this is my favourite catch of all time. One of the great catches. Michael Slater's commentary just adds to my enjoyment of the clip. "Some would say he fluked it!". Step forward, Monty Panesar!

Bell at bat pad against India was special

Or how about that infamous one where the ball hits the guys boot as he is turning away and loops up and he catches it?

Love the Strauss catch at slip - one of theose that looks better in Slo-mo when you can see how he stretches for the ball.

@Dummy_half

tendulkar's running catch is just a decent catch, not even a good catch
there are several wonderful catches or astonishing ones

James Kirtley took a blinder against India in '02:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwl1TsivvXw

Ponting's against New-Zealand when Australia were good:

In fact here's an even better one, away to his wrong hand and bl00dy quickly:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkOZ7M6sdPU

Mark Waugh was a genius, he could have a highlight reel on his own (as could Collingwood to be fair):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4GN9lvaPxM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB6YXO7M0B0 (I love this one as it changed the game and technically it's perfect).

Wow, cricketfan, that is a tremendous catch.

Stella, it is Pandey taking a diving catch in the deep in an Indian domestic game.

Harper was the best allround fielder ever, in my humble opinion. Had hands like buckets and was great across the ground.

I love the Sinclair catch.

Here´s an outfield catch from Astle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IOHVlQ43GM

He´s not the tallest bloke and has the presence of mind to look down when grabbing it and make sure he doesn´t step over.

McCullum is capable of some beauties: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNmcQX3KLCQ

From that athletic one to this one where he out-thought Dravid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjpd7b03uaM&feature=related

This is what I call a pinball catch. Unbelievable. It makes me think what the record is for number of players the ball touches before being caught: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN00U9584Pc&feature=related

Slip fielding is not easy. This is a disgustingly good catch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W_UcbJLhBQ

This effort from Michael Slater gets the balls of steel award:

Yeah I think he was a bit greedy though. Should´ve hackeyed it to second slip and they could´ve gone round the world. Definitely a branding.
