Frightened Federer Flees
Roger Federer has fled Doha for his dear life in the wake of realising only a Nadal thrashing awaits him on sunday. Embarrassing to be honest how the Swiss has avoided the chance to meet the Spaniard on an out door hard court, a contest he hasn't won since 2005 and a standing record of 1-4 including a demoralising lost at the AO 2009. Having admitted to choking in 2010 USO semi finals because he would have lost to Nadal anyways, it is possible Federer does not have the confidence, talent and quality to play Nadal outdoors on hard courts where players have to deal with natural conditions and adjust their games accordingly. Reminds me of Paris Masters 08 when he rushed out of France in a hurry fearing a second beat down by Blake after the Olympics.

A very shrewd decision not to play indeed. Poor Tsonga, he was hoping to see Federer at his best today. Too bad Federer was busy planning an escape route from Doha

The positive though, we get to see a more credible contest between Tsonga and Nadal . At the WTF, Nadal was injured and gifting wins since it was season's end so we will see how this one goes. He still has shoulder problems but with a slam coming up, i suspect he will not be charitable.

Re: Frightened Federer Flees
Nadal gifting wins at WTF due in part to injury - good
Federer withdrawing from Doha due to dodgy back - bad
Fed's 2nd withdrawal in a career of 996 top-level matches and no mid-match retirements entitles the 30-yr old No. 3 to the benefit of any doubt I'd say.

My (_|_) was he injured. Did he not skip Paris so he could be 'fit'?
He got battered plain and simple"

Re: Frightened Federer Flees
It's quite clear that Federer was mightily afraid of Tsonga, who after all beat him in Fed's virtual backyard last year even after kindly giving him a couple of sets head-start. Also, Federer wants to keep his winning streak going, hence the withdrawal.

Simple maybe it is you that is worried that Nadal is less certain to beat Tsonga than Federer.

Re: Frightened Federer Flees
Alliteration of only 3 'F's? - very poor wumming indeed (par for the course really)
How about -
'Frail, feeble, frightened Fed flees from fantastic Frenchman'
In an utterly predictable move today the world's most over-rated tennis player ever beat a hasty, tearful retreat from Doha when he realised that he would beat Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and then have to play Rafael Nadal in the final. Federer has never beaten Nadal in a proper match before and didn't want to extend that losing streak.
Federer would have apologised to the fans expecting to see a match but he is too arrogant to do that.

Swiss Shanksmeister shuns semi with super (T)songa, clearly too scared of a stand off with Spanish nemesis, Rafael Nadal, who is not as tired today as he was in November ( WTF was that tournament anyway?) when the sly Swiss seized an opportunity to strike against the Stricken One.

I make no claim to brilliance, but I think you'll find that premature spejaculation was my creation in response to Dr. Sincere's messy moment during the final of the USO in 2007. It's nice to see you remember it as people normally write the (to my mind) less vivid "premature speculation".

Well to you Barry - it is one of the most memorable and witty phrases - I have to credit Bogbrush with reminding us all of it a few months ago. It should never be forgotten and I propose that it is used in all appropriate circumstances to keep it alive for future posting generations
(yes Tenez - he really was that graphic!!!, but to the point I think in the circumstances! )

Well I've been searching, and the earliest mention I have found is by Opinion thus: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A35137181 so it may have been him, but I really thought that it had been my brainchild. Whatever, it's still pretty good

Barrystar you are going on a dangerous road there digging up old articles .
If we want to talk premature speculation, can we dig up the comical predictions of Federer fans regarding Nadal 2007/2008 before the FO as well? Some are still stuck in memory 10 slams across all surfaces later:
1. Nadal will never become world No,1
2. Nadal will never win a slam outside clay
3. Nadal will never make the AO final
4. Nadal will never win the WImbledon
5. Nadal will never win the USO.
6. Federer will beat Nadal at the FO next year
The list goes on.....

A lot of damn fool things were said on 606, and whilst nobody had a monopoly, those confidently forecasting the imminent demise of Federer from 2005 onwards as a matter of fact were left with the most egg on their chin.

You just miss the humour every time don't you Simple - a little bit of gentle legging pulling in your direction and you come back like a snarling second former railing against 'Federer fans' instead of trying to interact with anyone on an individual level - you might actually enjoy some Fed fans company if you stopped behaving like you have Asbergers for a minute or two?

Re: Frightened Federer Flees
They were not damn things at the time. No one could have predicted that the conditions at W, USO and AO woudl be slowed down by ridiculous proportions.
Borg had to win Wimbledon SVing in part. Nadal comes straight from the FO and plays exactly the same game 2 weeks later waiting for grass to disappear to leave dirt and teddy bears as balls.
It used to be a time not so long ago when only SVers could be seen in later stage of Wimbledon...unless you were a returner like Agassi, that is standing at the baseline and blocking returns with amazing reflexes.

Re: Frightened Federer Flees
Yes I can take leg pulling Simple - I wonder if you understand the definition - not as the rest of us do because you would actually have to have some empathy or friendship with someone on the forum.
You have to vary the pace, the delivery and the content of your humour to remain amusing and relevant. I actually laughed at your 'Welsh and ranting' quip on the other thread, but as every good stand up knows - you have to keep moving to avoid becoming stale and repetitive and therefore not v funny. I think you have exhausted your one sneering line today. BTW sneering is diametrically opposed to teasing.
Still you are amusing yourself - so continue if it gives you joy - you are obviously easily pleased and are extremely good at gratifying yourself.
Have to say I'm, at last, thoroughly bored by you.

Don't dispose off the bottle. Store it down and give it to Federer before his next USO semi finals match. He needs to carry alot of bottles to that court

Haha but the irony is Nadal lost 3 and 2 to Davy last year at the same stage of the same tournament, thus avoiding an in form Federer in the final.

Well having seen Djokovic's performance at the Abu Dhabi exhibition, Nadal better start getting very religious because he will need devine intervention to beat Djokovic. Murray has also been playing under the radar in Brisbane and with Lendl you'll never know what he will bring. It's true though, Nadal is playing worst of the favourites at the moment and i can't see it changing anytime until the clay season.
