You can't just eat the kebab straight away either, you have to let the juice and the chilli sauce soak into the pitta. That's better than a fag after sex.

Smoking helps suppress the symptoms of a couple of health issues. The one that springs to mind for it is IBS.

but you would assume the negative aspects of smoking still happen?

Of course they will...but it still helps with that particular issue...which technically means it is helping.

And smoking helps reduce stress.

There are many pluses to smoking if I am being honest..

I'm not having a go at anyone here but just pointing out that one thing that massively annoys me is when people lecture smokers for smoking.

Do they not realise that they know fags could potentially kill them? It's a life choice that a person makes, as is drinking but you don't see people getting lectured for excessive drinking even though it is probably more damaging to the body than smoking is.

Any else share this gripe?

I think people do get lectured about excessive drinking as well to be honest.

Particularly as excessive drinking is the problem not just for the individual's health, but contributes to a lot of social problems, violence and a lot of money for the NHS.

Although to be fair on the last point, so does smoking.

I dont mind if anyone smokes, i did it for 11 years,

Quit for 2 years now (also quit drink for 2 years as well)

As CW says, it helps.

Nicotine is a diuretic, which helps relieve the symptoms of my condition. Unfortunately, the NHS and the Government refuse to issue the patches on prescription as they feel it would be taken advantage of, so smoking is the next best thing. Smoking for me enables me to be able to 'go' when i want rather than suffering.

Steve's right about stress as well. Smoking thins the amount of oxygen in your blood, thus slowing your heart rate down and allowing your body to regain it's natural rhythm slowly.

It does have one big negative, but you're all forgetting that EVERYBODY 'has' the 'C' word. We're all born with the virus. It's an exceptional change in the bodies circumstance that allows the virus to take hold.

Everything these days gives you bloody 'C'.

There isn't a day that goes by when you don't hear on the news that doing or eating Y increases your chances of 'C' by X amount. It is ridiculous.

Good facts those KB, my other half used to have IBS pretty bad and she was doubled over in pain at times so I can understand why smoking would reduce the pain for you.
