"Transitional state"

Jeez bejesus!! I saw this phrase again just now and it made my blood boil.
Why is it only in rugby that it gets used? It is basically a made up buzzword to describe your team when it's quite frankly, playing rubbish.
It can also be used if the coach has decided to go with youth or if 1 or 2 key players have retired.
"I didn't really expect us to win, because we are in a transitional state and we won't come good again till the next world cup".
What rubbish. If you always picking your best XV available and they are fired up, it shouldn't make a difference whether there is 4 years to a world cup for 4 weeks.

This is also a new one "They need to manage expectations" all these phrases sound like something coined by a American marketing analist..
