Barcelona 2-0 Liverpool
Xavi, van Persie

The addition of de Rossi into this Barcelona side has restored them as the strongest in the league and reverted them to the balanced midfield they previously had. van Persie's arrival at the Nou Camp is also promising news for Catalan fans as David Villa, despite being the world's best in form, is struggling for fitness at the moment. The new signing scored on his debut after Xavi's opener. Liverpool's tactics were of the right intentions but Barcelona's class prevailed in the end.

===

Chelsea 2-1 Inter Milan
Rooney, Aguero
Hazard

Chelsea's exciting forward duo of Aguero and Rooney will cause even the best of defences problems this season and, although Inter Milan's defence is not bad, it is not the best in the league at the moment. That said, they have a good balance in the midfield and deservedly went ahead after good work from teenage prodigy Eden Hazard. The aforementioned strike partnership soon got into the game though and it was inevitable one of them would score, and Rooney equalised before half-time. Chelsea's midfield is incredibly well-balanced and creative and does not receive the credit it is due at times. Indeed, Khedira's incisive pass to Aguero allowed the Argentine to win the game for Chelsea just before the hour mark.

===

Juventus 1-2 Bayern Munich
Ganso
Vermaelen, Muller

Recent acquisitions from Cherries have certainly improved Juventus but Bayern proved to be too strong for the hosts. TSC was bold in his decision to field an offensive formation but his tactics delivered as the visitors raced into a two-goal lead before half-time. For all their midfield mastery and creativity, the defence is tenacious, although Boateng is a weakness. It was centre-half Vermaelen who opened the scoring, rising highest to steer Muller's corner past Buffon. Then, German Muller scored himself, curling in from the edge of the box. Juventus were deflated but to their credit continued to press as Bayern began to tire. They have improved dramatically in the midfield and Ganso scored late on, but it was not enough.

===

Real Madrid 3-2 Man City
Alonso, Villa, Ronaldo (pen)
Fabregas, Navas

Real Madrid prevailed in what was undoubtedly game of the week at the Bernabeu. After astute transfers from manager Pull, City came into this game as well-placed as they could have hoped to steal a result. Madrid, however, have class all over the pitch and will feel very confident about their chances of winning the league this season. Yet it was the visitors who silenced the home crowd within minutes, Catalan Cesc Fabregas finding space before deceiving Julio César, who might have done better. The conservative formation City fielded caused problems for Madrid, who had opted to play a more attacking side at home. The midfield trio of Fabregas, Sneijder and Yaya found plenty of space for manouevre, as Alonso and Mascherano were exposed. However, against the run of play, Xabi Alonso curled in a luscious free kick to equalise. Madrid raised their game and were in the ascendancy, quickly taking the lead through David Villa's well-timed header. After the interval, both sides were more defensive and created less chances. Pull must have thought that his side had nicked a draw as Jesus Navas beat César at the death, but Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up from the penalty spot to smash home the winner after a rash tackle from Micah Richards.

===

Arsenal 1-0 AC Milan
Ozil

A crowded midfield led to a boring game Arsenal deservedly scraped. Milan are not the most exciting of teams at the best of times but today clogged the midfield totally, prohibiting Arsenal from getting into their fluent rhythm. On paper, the visitors' attack should have tested Arsenal's defence yet all three are temperamental and decided not to put in a shift today for Fisher, who has work to do to resurrect Milan's fortunes. The only goal was uncharacteristic of the game, Mesut Ozil finding space before smashing in an absolute beauty from 25-yards.

Barcelona 2-0 Liverpool
RVP x2

Even though FC fielded 12 players the extra man wasn't much use going forward against a ridiculously strong Barcelona team. They dominated in midfield and going forward, keeping Liverpool pinned back all game.

Chelsea 2-1 Inter
Aguero x2; Cambiasso

Interesting matchup here. Kam should be playing Silva in the middle and Aguero on the wing because that is where they are most effective. Guv has him team in the right positions but this Chelsea team has epic firepower which gets it goals.

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid
Navas

What. A. Game. The midfield is so evenly matched that it's where all the action occurred. What swings it is that Madrid's CB's are old and aren't the quickest, allowing Navas to race through and score the only goal.

Arsenal 2-0 AC
Howedes , Neymar

Hero's done an amazing job with the Arsenal team. It's now one of the best in the league, AC are a good team but just no match on paper.

Man Utd 1-2 Spurs
Nani; Robben, Bale

A result that might shock but Spurs are the underrated team in this league. They are very good in all positions, from Reina to Falcao. Utd lack energy in CM with Lampard being old and Essien and Kaka being out of form. Against a Spurs midfield that is superb, they came unstuck.

Barcelona 2-0 Liverpool
Messi, Sanchez

Despite fielding an extra man, Liverpool still couldn't withstand the brilliance of Barca and were punished by a goal from Sanchez and Messi

===
Chelsea 2-0 Inter Milan
Wilshere, Silva

Home side came up trumps in an entertaining affair. Wilshere from range and Silva with a delightful curling effort winning the game for the home team.

===
Juventus 1-2 Bayern Munich
Ganso: Reus (2)

Good move to bring in Ganso to Juve but despite his goal giving the home side the advantage for half the game, Bayern's quality shone through and Reus delivered 2 quick fire goals to give his side the win.

===
Arsenal 1-1 AC Milan
Benzema: Alba

Home side's attack were stifled by AC's formation and so never really got going during the match. They did take the lead early in the first half through Benzema but against the run of play and on the counter, AC drew level when Alba was put through by Robinho and chipped Szescszscszscszssescseszny from the edge of the area.

===
Man Utd 2-1 Tottenham
Kaka (2): VDV

Despite being up against Parker and Busquets, the Brazilian was on fire and perhaps should have had more. Some brilliant link up play with Ibra lead to Kaka putting the home side 2 up before the break. However, in the second half, Spurs found their feet and exerted some pressure on United lead by VDV who grabbed a goal back with a low drive but the away side couldn't fathom an equaliser.

Juventus 1 - 2 Bayern Munich
Cavani ----------- Ribery, Mueller

Juve were unlucky in the end not to come out with a draw as they battled hard kept Bayern at bay for most of the game but Bayern showed why they are such a good team with some fantastic football to get the winner. Early on Bayern took the game to Juve and got their goal from Ribery. Juve then came out of their shell and matched Bayern and stoped them playing. It was Cavani's header from a corner that gave them a deserved equaliser. Juve went back in their shell but defended well. However Bayern bided their time and Modric upped the pace and found Gomez and he slipped in Schweinstiger and he selfishly squared it to Muller to tapped it in the empty net.
---------------
Real Madrid 4 - 3 Man City
Ronaldo (2) ------ Fabregas, Sneijder, Higuain
Mata
Torres

Sensational game with a dramatic ending here. Both defences were battered but Madrid held firm the longest and thats what got them the victory. Ronaldo skinned Clichy twice to get 2 early goals but City's pace were too much for Carvalho and Lucio with Higuain assisting for both Sneijder and Fabregas. Higuain got the comeback goal to lead but moments later Mata flew past Richards and whacked home a great equaliser too. The game was going end-to-end and when the ball found Torres, he dummied Puyol and skipped pass Clichy and shot perfecty past Hart. What a goal and worther of any matchwinner.
---------------
Arsenal 2 - 1 AC Milan
Benzema (2) ---- Berbatov

Benzema was the difference in this game as Milan's defence could not contain his movement and he created 2 goals from nothing. Early on Milan were disciplined with Van Bommel and Ramires controlling the midfield against Essien and Lampard. However, Benzema took the ball from midfield and ran past Van Bommel and dazzled Rio and slotted home for the first goal. Second half, Benzema took the ball from the edge of the area and curled from an impossible angle and scored the second. Milan changed things and Berbatov came on and he linked well with Drogba and tucked it under Szczney to pull a goal back. However, Arsenal re-grouped and defended well for the win.
--------------
Man Utd 1 - 1 Tottenham
Kaka ----------- Robben

A very tactical game that could have finished 5-5 but for some great keeping from both players. Spurs started the brighter and took the game to a unsettled Utd side. Robben and VDV combined for Robben curled a beauty past De Dea. Utd looked rattled and were under pressure again but Utd's defence held firmer this time. Kaka equalised when Ekotto was pressured by Valencia and he ran straight past Reina and squared it to Kaka to tap in the empty net.

Fantasy European League™ - Round 3 Empty Re: Fantasy European League™ - Round 3

Post by Hero Thu 08 Mar 2012, 7:25 pm

Barca 2 - 0 Liverpool
Messi, Iniesta
Although Liverpool are improving week on week this was a huge step up to face the quality of Barca, De Rossi adds a great deal of steel to the centre of the park that they missed after selling Busquets but I'm not convinced that RVP would fit in with the Barca attack, just seems a square peg for a round hole.

Chelsea 2 - 2 Inter
Aguero, Rooney - Hazard, Tezez
Both sides have very good looks to them in certain areas but both still have areas that look fallible. Can see both sides causing the other teams defence no end of problems. Inter take a surprise 2 goal lead but then a Pepe rash challenge resulted in a penalty and a red card letting Chelsea back into the game, Inter failed to hold on and Chelsea get the draw.

Juventus 1 - 1 Bayern
Cavani - Gomez
Two top drawer strikers show their class in this game with two clinical strikes. Juve still need a few more pieces to their jigsaw and could have suffered a loss but the defensive set up of Bayern going 4-4-1-1 didn't put them to the sword.

Real Madrid 2 - 2 Man City
Ronaldo, Mata - Di Maria, Higuan
2 old boys come back to haunt Real here but it's a cracking match where both sides could have bagged more, feel both sides could still improve at the back.

Man Utd 1 - 2 Tottenham
Ibrahimovic - Falcao, Robben
Spurs for me are the surprise package this season and I can see them really ruffling a few feathers, in every position that needed strengthening they have done and I can't see the Utd midfield coping with it.

Fantasy European League™ - Round 3 Empty Re: Fantasy European League™ - Round 3

Post by Cor Blimey Guvnor Thu 08 Mar 2012, 9:19 pm

Barcelona 2 - 0 Liverpool
RvP
Messi

Liverpoil set themselves up to make life hard for Barcelona by crowding the midfield. This worked in the first half as the two sides went into the break goalless but Liverpool struggled to create much at the other end and eventually Barca's possession told as Messi played indebutant RvP to

his first goal for the Catalan giants. As Liverpool pushed out to get an equaliser so Barca had more space to play with Messi putting the game to bed late on.

Juventus 1 - 1 Bayern
Cavani ------ Gomez

Tight match which the visitors had the better of in terms of possession but found the home defence tough to break down. The central pairing of Chiellini and Bonucci were especially impressive. Goalless at half time and Juve caught Bayern cold at the start of the second half as Cavani kept up his impressive scoring record by giving Juve the lead. Bayern piled forward and it looked like being one of those days for them until Gomez bundled home following a scramble in the Juve box late on.

Real Madrid 2 - 1 Man City
Ronaldo --------- Higuain
Malta

Two class sides both incredibly strong through the middle. The battle was eventualily won in the flanks. Real"s fullbacks are superior and they kept City's wide men quieter. Both of Real's goals came from th imeir wide men as Clichy in particular had a torrid time. Close but in these matches between the top clubs, the small things can make the difference.

Arsenal 1 - 0 AC Milan
Neymar

Closely fought match with neither side managing to get the upper hand. Arsenal are exciting going forward but Milan are strong at the back with a good defensive midfield guard in front on the back 4. In such a tight game, a piece of brilliance was needed and in Neymar, Arsenal have a star. Sublime skill saw him grab the winner late on to frustrate Milan but thrill the home crowd.

Man Utd 0 - 0 Spurs

Two very solid defences saw off two good looking attacks. Utd probably have the best defence in the league and Spurs did struggle to create too many clear openings but their central midfield pairing worked superbly to deny the home side time and space to feed their strikers. A frustrating day for Utd but an excellent result for Spurs.

Barcelona 1-0 Liverpool
Van Persie
Liverpool with a defensive set up but the skill of Barca was too much.

Chelsea 1-0 Inter Milan
Podolski
This match was won on the wings with Podolski giving Rafael a torrid time.

Juventus 1-1 Bayern Munich
Cavani---------Modric
A pretty even match with 2 good defences.

Real Madrid 1-0 Manchester City
Ronaldo
City are very attacking with attack minded full backs. This left them exposed at the back for Ronaldo to expose.

Arsenal 2-0 AC Milan
Neymar, Ozil
Arsenal have a very well balanced side that dominated the play.
