Post by The Special Juan Wed 28 Mar 2012, 4:47 pm

Just saw a post in the "Premier League" bit asking for player of the season, so who is the SPL player of the season?

He was named as one of the 10 young players in the world to watch by FIFA or something similar. Can't remember exactly. He's a great player but has gone off the boil towards the end of the season.

As a Celtic fan I'd say Charlie Mulgrew has been immense for us this year. Honourable mention to Jon Daly!

Forrest by a mile for young player and player no one else comes close. People getting a bit carried away with Mackay Stevens because he plays for a small club he's nowhere near as talented as Forrest.

Pbk agree with Forrest for young player by a mile but for player I really think big Chuck has been up there as our most important player this year and has made a huge transformation since he 1st came back.

If it was most improved player big Charlie would get the nod no doubt but it's the best player and Forrest is a game changer. Whenever it comes to this time of year I like to see the guys who score or make goals win it. When Naka and Mcgeady won it they weren't the most consistent players in the league but they were the most eye catching.

Yeah Jon Daly should be up there, didn't think he was going to do as well as he had done. Mulgrew... I don't know how but he's definitely worth a place in the Scotland XI now. Forrest has gone off the boil completely now.

Okay, new question. For player of the season (out of these 2), Daly or Mulgrew? No bias please.

Mulgrew, Daly does nothing but scores goals he reminds me of Kris Boyd and he was never worthy of player of the year.

I see you're point completely mate and there's no doubting that James Forrest is a better footballer and more talented than Mulgrew but I'd be looking for the more consistent player over the season to get it. Suppose its all down to personal preferrence as to what you're looking for. Big Mulgrew has improved immeasurably and I really like him as a ball playing CB now but when Celtic need the win you have to want James Forrest on the team sheet (or else the Derry pele) Wink

Out of the two I'd still go for Mulgrew. Daly does deserve to be up there because of the amount of goals he has scored but Charlies been the more consistent and better player throughout the season.

Id go Mulgrew, havent really seen enough of Daly, apart from against Celtic. Id pick Mulgrew over Forrest as well, Forrest us the more talented player, but Mulgrew has been better all year. Think Forrest is nailed on to win YPOTY.

Consistency over quality its a fair argument. Mulgrews goals contribution should not be under rated either. Mulgrew, Stokes and Forrest turned our season around at Rugby Park in November.

Adam Matthews should be up there for young player as well he has had a great season.

Wasn't keen on Mattews at the start and thought he might have been the next Danny Fox but have been really impressed since he's found his feet. Couldn't understand Cha starting the last Old Firm. Each to their own mate (as long as its a celtic player!) Haha

And Wanyama. Thought hes been outstanding.

Big Forster gets a raw deal. I cant remember him costing us a goal all season. Penalty save against Hearts and Heroics against Udinese stand out for me.

Meant to mention big Forster earlier but was gonna say it would take an outstanding season for a goalie to get it. Can't remember the last time a keeper won a player oif the season/tournament award. Did Kahn get it at the 02 world cup?

Andy Goram won a player of the year award in the 90's not sure if it was the writers or players though.
