Who is your favourite Doctor?
Dr Who
First topic message reminder :
Can't believe no-one has posted anything about quite possibly the greatest TV show ever made!
Well the new series is nearly upon us, and as I found this on youtube today Clicky, I thought I would start a new thread (its a new long trailer for the new series).
Feel free to talk about all of the series and doctors on here, although I would imagine that it will be predominantly made up of the reboot.
From the reboot, Matt Smith is by far my favourite. Never liked Ecclestone and although I liked Tennant, I just feel that the last lot of specials were terrible and tarnished his memory. Matt Smith plays him brilliantly and doesnt make me miss DT one bit.
So what are your opinions of this fantastic show and how good does that trailer look?

Re: Dr Who
Just watching the second ever Matt Smith Dr Who (the one with the whale carrying the spaceship) - Matt Smith is awesome but the actress playing the queen is awful!
Re: Dr Who
Just watched the Xmas special (what moron decided to move it to 5, was eating at that point) too tired to discuss it in depth but I thought it was sensation.

Best Xmas episode yet and better than quite a few of the regular shows.
Clara is one sexy companion!
Star of the show thought was Drax. I really hope we get to see more of him.

Re: Dr Who
I don't want to like Clara, she's replaced my Amy and she has an odd nose. But she is an interesting character and Im really wanting to see how the plot continues around how she's died multiple times but each is a different person etc.

Re: Dr Who
It'll be an interesting year coming up, there's the remainder of this series which I presume will be centred around figuring out Clara's death thing and then I think there will be another series in the Autumn culminating in the 50th anniversary episode in November which I reckon will be the Fields of Trenzalore episode where the 11th Doctor will fall (think it will also include several past doctors) and then the 2013 Christmas episode will introduce the 12th Doctor.

Re: Dr Who
Watched this last night and thought it was a brilliant episode. I haven't really enjoyed the last couple of Christmas specials so wasn't expecting much.
As said Strax was the highlight and I hope he is a regular in the new series. The twist with Clara was interesting, it covered the fact she was the same as Oswin, but left more than enough unexplained to keep my interest.
The 50th anniversary will contain past Doctors, my brother in law knows one of the writers and he said there are agreements in place for the majority to appear in a special episode already.

I was not expecting to like the Christmas special that much, or the new assistant, but wow was I wrong!
It will feel odd if Smith is indeed leaving in a year.Where is this news from,Hero?

Clara to be revealed to have some sort of time lord regenerating powers and in series finale both her and the Doctor to die and her to come back as the new Doctor ?

Re: Dr Who
I do think the next series finale (remember we're only halfway through the current series as 5 episodes were done in the Autumn) will be the death of the eleventh doctor in the Fields episode where the Question is finally asked.
I'm going to put my cards on the table and put my weight behind Idris Alba being the 12th Doctor.

Re: Dr Who
With the ginger hair that the character has said he wants?!?
I'm already wondering what the programme makers will do beyond the 12th incarnation of the Doctor. Surely they won't finish the series, and it seems almost as unthinkable that they'd kill off/replace the underlying character.

Re: Dr Who
Haven't seen enough of the guys that are up on offer in the thread...
However when I moved here and saw old reruns from the past I was pretty embarrassed at the quality and effects......and the terrible story lines.
Have to say now since the Ecclestone revival what a good job they've done and I'd certainly put it up there with The x-files in the sci-fi stakes............
best one for me from the new series.......Tennant by a mile..

Scottish, ginger, pale as a vampire, and very rude in person? Yes, she can be replaced. Easily. Any word on how her career is going these days?Hero wrote:Azzy, you disappoint me, no-one replaces Amy Pond.

Re: Dr Who
It feels like ages since we had Doctor Who, I'm still interested to see whether the new assistant can be as good as Amy and Rory, whether or not Matt Smith's Doctor has good connection with her is key for me. I liked Amy and Rory as it made Doctor more of an outsider, I hope they don't go down the boring sexual tension route.

She's filming a horror film ATM due for release next year, she's also appearing in Charlie Brooker's A Touch of Cloth and she's been on stage in a David Baddiel comedy.

I give the story 2/10, Smith 6/10 (not his best, came across as a creepy stalker), while Coleman gets 10/10. Snog box

Little tid-bit that has been brought to my attention, wondering if anyone else has some theories on it
Another spoiler within a spoiler, containing a spoiler about the spoiler that wasn't involved in the show, got that, ok
- Spoiler:
- The 'Summer Falls' book that Clara had was written by Amelia Williams (that being the actual married name of Amy Pond), intresting little aside when Clara asked the girl what chapter she was on and she said 11 would make her cry, with this Dr being the 11th, my guess is River Song will have something to do with the book

Re: Dr Who
I definitely noticed the book being written by Amelia Williams, it'll be interesting to see if that was a simple nod or will be used later.
With the 50th anniversary special featuring more than one Doctor as well as Rose Tyler (who is stuck in a different dimension, although has travelled before), it's not too big of a leap to believe that we'll see Amy and Rory again, I'd be especially surprised if we didn't see River Song this series.

Someone had to have given Clara the Doctor's number, I wouldn't be shocked if River was the woman in the shop.
Also it was shown in River's first apperance she knows the doctor's name, so I would assume it is to her that the 'first question' will be answered.

Re: Dr Who
If I ever see River Song again, it'll be 10,000 years too soon. Awful character, awful storylines with her in it, and a God-awful actress playing her. What a massive drain on the franchise she's proven to be.

Re: Dr Who
Agree Azzy.
Never a fan of her or the actress.
And the timeline story with her doesnt actually make any sense.

Re: Dr Who
Not to mention that if she's supposedly so crucial to the story, why hasn't she been in it for so long...I really hope the 50th anniversary episode bumps her off.

Re: Dr Who
I'm maybe a week or so behind so don't know what direction her character is going, but isn't she [Alex Kingston] now too busy doing Arrow stateside?
I wonder which Who alumnus they might steal next, having nabbed John Barrowman...

Well I hope that show does tremendously well and she never appears in Who again. Easily the worst character / storyline arc since Chris E brought the Doctor back.

Here's the summary to the book & the cover:

But when she discovers a mysterious painting entitled ‘The Lord of Winter’ in a charity shop, it leads her on an adventure she never could have planned.
