B&I RU visual broadcaster of the season 2011-12 (TV and on-line)
B&I RU visual broadcaster of the season 2011-12
I'm going for ESPN which is refreshingly welcome as a great competitor to the tired Sky and its same old, same old, seemingly decades old format.
If I miss any, I'll get them added via Biltongbek (he owes me one).

I have to say either, BBC Wales or S4C, as they show so much here in Wales, and if I am honest, with the likes of Jason Muhammed and Robert Jones, Kingsley Jones, and especially Rick O'Shea, it is not all that bad. I went for aunte Beeb. Also, S4C and BBC Wales seem to work together when it comes to rugby in Wales, we are so lucky we get so much of it.

I've gone for TG4. I can't understand a flipping word they're saying but they've brought excellent coverage of most of the Irish HEC games to terrestrial tv as well as showing quite a few Rabo games. Long may it continue.
I really miss George Hook's expert analysis but you can't have everything I suppose.

I'm going to tout Setanta Ireland.
They did good RWC coverage, I felt the Matt Williams-Neil Francis combo worked well, they good a good rugby show and have Top 14 rugby matches also as well as showing schools rugby.
A good service.

I've gone for S4C. Not so much for their Pro12 coverage, but their world cup coverage and their Heineken highlight shows are really excellent, much better than anything ITV and the Beeb has had on offer this season.

I've gone for TG4................ mostly because they are the only channel that shows Westerns anymore!
But also because it's fun to see what cosy hats Máire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill will wear through the winter months. She talks like the bloomin' blazes, as they said in ye olde days, but never disappoints in the outrageously cute, often bizarrely otherworld get ups she kits herself out in.

You might have recalled the rage against Moore's rantings. Brian Moore is now pretty much accepted an objective observer.
Austin is an amazingly (along with Ben Kay) objective observer.

Re: B&I RU visual broadcaster of the season 2011-12
Also gone for Setanta - Matt Williams is excellent at explaining complex rugby stuff while Franno, while a bit monosyllabic, does tend to make sense a lot of the time. Good to get the Top 14 as well.
Notice no RTE on the voting list - probably just as well as if there's smug self-satisfied self-important rugby coverage then RTE has it. Rodders, for a man who usually takes a lot of sense on this forum, I'm flabbergasted with your praise of George Hook - the man is a buffoon and plays the pantomime villain to such a degree that it's become plain boring. McGurk is a total windbag, Pope is ok and Conor O'Shea and knows his stuff as one would expect of a Premiership Head Coach.
Even after years of "learning" Irish in school - back in the Peig Sayers days - I also haven't got clue what they're talking about on TG4 - and that Maire Trease lass is certainly enthusiastic even though she might be talking total crap for all I know. Will give her the benefit of the doubt tho. Coverage is good and Maire T is certainly a bonus - she's the rugby equivalent of that weather woman on RTE who wears all the wierd clothes

Máire T has the straighest fringe I have ever seen. I'm convinced if you ran your finger along it you'd end up cutting yourself badly.

I have no idea if RTE covers rugby any more.
Get me to badger Biltongbek to put it on the list.

Re: B&I RU visual broadcaster of the season 2011-12
Portnoy,
RTE covers a lot of rugby. It covers all the 6 Nations games, most of the RWC games and the Pro 12.
It also has delayed coverage of the ERC.

Re: B&I RU visual broadcaster of the season 2011-12
RTE doesn't have delayed coverage of the ERC anymore stag?
Its on TG4 as is most of the Rabo games.
Apart from the 6N, AI's and odd Rabo game theres not much on RTE these days.

Re: B&I RU visual broadcaster of the season 2011-12
Actually RTE have the wittiest and sharpest tool of them all (certainly as presenter) in Daire O'Brien [no not the guy who calls himself an AHHH EHHH yes, ahhhh eeehhhh "comedian"....]
Daire shoots from the hip and is so fast, so subtle, so very shrewd that the panelists never really get what he implies until about 5 minutes after he's said it. He doesn't stand on ceremony, doesn't believe the 'experts' always know it all, isn't afraid to mischeviously stamp on reputations (Hook recently commented that bad coaches tend to over-talk - and Darie reminded him that he was once a coach and now talks a lot)
Yeah, old Daire is a bright cookie.

Oh for such an opportunity stag..... ...
Bren I was only messing about Hook. I do enjoy the RTE panel for the comedy value though. I prefer McGurk to that smug 'go easy' fella though.

Errr,..... No, not at all, it is your baby. I am just thinking I should set up an excell spreadsheet to make note of all the "owe me's" that is piling up. I remember a recent one, where... my goodness in fact it was you thread on your point system for qualifications, that I fought your "points of view" on your behalf. So me thinks you owe me too...

Went for ESPN, best by a country mile.
I could quite happily watch a lot more of their coverage and the sooner they buy all the rugby off Sky the better. And they need to make their own version of Rugby Club, twice a week.

Gone for BBC Wales based on the Scrum V Highlights raising it above the others. S4C is pretty useful though, the HC highlights, and the Amlin Cup QF being shown.

The only channel where you can still watch a western on prime time Friday night TV. Tonight it's "Geronimo: An American Legend".
The one thing in RTE's favour is Apres Match.

I've gone with Sky. Purely on their HC coverage, RTE have been too inconsistent with showing games, and I don't like the panel.
The Breakdown on Setanta is very good though. And the cute Blonde on TG4 makes my trousers smile...

Is cailín aoibhinn í Mickado. They really have a knack for that kind of thing.
I really like TG4s analysis, it alienates half the country but they make some very good points at times. I would consider giving it to them. Sky are close though.

Sky are crap.
All they have done is sealed an exclusive HEC deal.
Other than that they are stale and unimaginative.
Certainly not RU broadcaster of the year.

Quite good. Matt Williams and "Franno" urine me off with their bias and ignorance sometimes though, and i also find it strange that Williams refers to Ireland rugby as "we"

I should be able to remember that one T, Aoibhinn is my goddaughters name!
Portnoys, I don’t think Sky do anything particularly special but they cover the majority of the HC games and they put together a decent package.

He coached in Ireland more than he did in Aus that's his reasoning anyway...
