Newsletter
Welcome to the first 606 v2 Newsletter!
This has been sent by e-mail to all members, but in case anybody hasn't received it or would like to discuss any of the content it has been placed as an annoucement.
The site has now been running for just over 2 months and thanks to all of you it has been a huge success. We have over 1,300 registered users and between you over an amazing 60,000 posts have been made! The Admin team felt that this would be an opportune time to drop you a line and highlight some features of the site that you may not have been aware of.
Continued Growth
As with all forums, v2 will only ever be as good as the members that use it. We have had great success with people moving over from 606 and hope this will continue until the BBC close it down.
Once that has happened we want the site to keep growing. We are currently seeking out various sites and blogs on the interent for links to v2 in turn for a link on our portal. We are also marketing on facebook. If anyone has any other suggestions to help build the membership please drop a pm to the Admins or Mods and we will take it on board.
In the meantime please share the site with anyone you think may be interested, whether in the 'real world', on any other forums you may use, or via social media. You can join our Facebook group here.
Chat Box
As many of you will be aware we open the Chat Box on the homepage during selected sporting events. Already we have the following lined up and would love for you to join us:
To keep on top of any other events the Box will be open for, or to ask for it to be opened for an event please visit here.
Polls
Currently on the site we are running a series of polls across the different sports. Please take a look at the ones below and add your votes and opinions to the current discussion!
The Best No 8 of All Time
Rugby Union has seen some top number 8's grace the field, who in your opinion is the greatest of all time?
Best Tennis Player Prior to 2002
Before the domination of Nadal and Federer, who was the best player to take to the tennis court? Did Borg do enough in his short career, does Connors longevity give him the edge or should somebody else claim the crown?
Best Basketball Player of All Time
Who is the best player ever to shoot the hoops? Has Michael Jordan got this one sewn up, are Lebron James or Kobe Bryant real contenders to the throne, or is there another player that should take the title of best ever?
General Discussion
Many of you will have seen the Global Announcement regarding the non sports specific areas of 606 v2. It has been great to see an increase in traffic in these areas and the mingling of different sports fans there.
Just in case anybody missed it or, for some reason known only to themselves, haven't had a look yet we have plenty to offer!
There is a great media section on here where people talk about their favourite Films, TV, Music, Books, Games (click on these to go to the respective section).
There is also a quiz section, which has fortnightly quizzes and other great games such as the One Word Story and ongoing Movie Quote Quiz - Clicky
Finally, there is a off topic section, where people talk about....well.....anything and everything (personal favourite being the Youtube thread - Off Topic
If you have any ideas that we could use for General Discussion don't be shy in letting us know! Since 606v2 began we have tried to meet as many requests as possible - and will always continue to do so!
New Features
606v2 is dedicated to improving the 'old 606' experience and as such there are a number of great new features available on the site.
It is now easy to tell which forums and threads have had new posts since your last visit, the circular image will change from white to red when new posts are available.
There are little boxes with an arrow in after the name of the last person to comment on a thread. If it is orange, you will be taken to the first unread post in the thread - whereas if it is white you have read all the posts, but you will be taken straight to the last post in the thread.
In order to encourage debate and quick 'back and forth' discussions the three minute rule is not in place on v2. This was one of the major gripes of people on the old 606 and we were keen to make sure that discussions are able to flow.
Another change is that you are now able to edit your posts. So if you notice an annoying spelling mistake in something you have posted, you are now able to make those changes within rather than having to make a new post.
If you have any concerns about whether a post breaches houserules, you can report it directly to the admin team by clicking the triangular icon with an exclamation mark at the top of the post. This flags the post instantly to all admin - and by not responding to the post in question the topic of discussion is not waylaid by an inappropriate comment.
We would like to thank you again for joining the definitive sports forum and contributing to making this site such a success. If you are not yet debating with the regulars yet, come on in and join us - the water is nice and warm!

Re: Newsletter
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all the Mods and Admins for thier hard work, although some is down to us as users if it wasn't for you aiding our needs it wouldn't be where it is today!
2 months old and thriving and i love it. I hope to see this place grow and grow like it does every day.
I am going to look into getting my Australian mate who loves WWE as much as me and actually told me a bit more than just what happens in ring on here. He is a brilliant guy, but anyway i will spread the word as much as i can!

Re: Newsletter
Admin Team,
You have done an impeccable job in creating and maintaining a great site to replace 606. In my opinion it is far superior to its predecessor, due to some of the new features that have been implemented. You may have noticed my keen interest in improving the site and adding new features, but right now i believe it is just right. I have nothing else to add, just a thankyou to the job you all have done so far and keeping us all in line!

Re: Newsletter
Highest compliment I could pay is that 606v2 combines the very best elements of the ' old ' 606 without the associate nonsense.
Many congrats to the admins. It's nice to see vision and effort paying off.

May I add my congratulations and thanks to the admins for their work on this site? All looks very promising so far. I think this newsletter is a great idea too, so I'm guessing it'll be a regular fixture?

The edit feature is useful Layout is very clear and logical The "wink" could be a bit clearer to prevent those with dry sense of humour being misinterpreted

Re: Newsletter
It's also good to be able to post at any time rather than rushing to beat the old 11pm curfew. Just needs a few more contributors which will hopefully come in time, especially when the original 606 shuts its doors for ever. All in all though, this is a very good forum. - evidenced by the Corporal wishing to post immediately upon his return from night time manoeuvres rather than head straight for his billet

Re: Newsletter
Guildford - a very charitable interpretation of my activity
An alternative possibility would be a restless sleep owing to consumption of a certain quantity of white wine in the barracks the evening before
Agree it's a good forum and the absence of a curfew is excellent; it would be great if on the cricket page a few more from other counties besides Surrey took the plunge!

Re: Newsletter
E, after a little confusion over the upcoming dates for the quiz, I have had it confirmed by fernando.
The next pub quiz is this Friday coming and then every second week following it. Obviously, if odnan wants his quiz mentioning it takes place on alternate Fridays to mine.

Y2 - thanks for carrying on the novel mate
I am really enjoying it and your bit has inspired me to write something (either tonight or tomorrow) - I love this concept of not knowing where its going.
