Hatton Undercard
First topic message reminder :
All the talk for the last few weeks has been about Ricky, and rightly so. But has given his fighters the chance to prepare without having cameras stuck in their face every 5 minutes which is bound to help. So how do we see those going?
I think Gary Buckland will get through his fight against Steven Forster JR. Forster JR is a decent boxer but Bucklands power is the real equaliser. I also feel Murray will beat Navarro in a WBA Interim fight putting him right back in the title mix. The one I can't pick is Munroe and Quigg, before the last fight I picked Munroe but Quigg had the better of what little action there was. Possibly Munroe underestimated just how skilled Quigg, hopefully there will be no cuts though.

he needs to go back to the body like he was in the earlier rounds. He's head hunting without success.

It's over Hatton is out, body shot ironically
He's out, knew he wouldnt have what it takes to make it and gassed as I though the would
15st to 10st6 is too much weight cut not to affect someone

Yep, not to mention his timing was horrible, I have never seen a boxer swing hooks like that

He should take up golf or something. Calzaghe said he still trains even though he doesnt box as it stops you getting down and feeling frustrated. Ricky should do that. More to life than boxing

Re: Hatton Undercard
If this fight was being scored properly, then Senchenko must surely have been even by the time of the stoppage, or maybe even a shade ahead, dare I say it. He dominated the battle of the jabs, seldom allowed himself to get trapped on the ropes and was generally doing the cleaner work throughout.
This is a sad night, one of the saddest I can remember in my time following the sport. But full credit to Senchenko.

Now he's retired losing to the 2 best boxers of our generation..... and senchenko
Sad sad for him but it was the only outcome and he could have gone out on his back if he won and fought a brook etc who could have really hurt him

Fair play. Great effort just hasn't got it anymore. Hope he retires now and keeps his own self in tact.
Great body shot by Senchenko though. Going out to your own shot must be a odd bit time to move on.
Great fighter, one of my favourites, good luck in the future.

Re: Hatton Undercard
The right result. Hatton looked wild - amateurish at times, nil head movement, reckless telegraphed punches, too easy to hit - basically all his old flaws magnified by Father Time. He couldn't get close enough and Senchenko only had to stick to the basic jab/straight right technique to be effective. The finishing body shot was a good one, and with Ricky's weight issues was always gonna be hard to soak up.
Hatton is gutted, feel bad for him.

Sad scenes.
I didn't think Ricky would make the fight as close as that if I'm honest. I thought if he made it to the end he'd definitely get the points verdict. He wasn't schooled, but it would not likely have been close if Hatton were at his best, cliched though the statement is...

Unfortunately exactly why I didn't watch it. You've had a cracking career and the Biritish public have loved the ride but Ricky go get proper help now and give up this game.

How can Hatton ever mention his own name and failure in the same sentence?
He is one of the greatest fighters we have ever had.
That is the most heartbreaking interview I have heard in boxing.

I can't understand why Ricky abandoned the body shots later in the fight when he was having such success early on. His timing was out so he should have stuck to the larger target throughout, the body.
I really feel for Hatton. He was on the floor for what seemed an age, it will kill him watching that back.
Salt of the earth, heart on his sleeve.

Re: Hatton Undercard
For those that haven't caught this yet:
A tearful Ricky Hatton, speaking to Primetime: "I thought I was maybe four rounds up but there were clear signs of ring rust. I hurt him a few times, and I was winning. I don't want to make any hasty decisions but I am really heartbroken. It was a good shot, I should have realised he was looking for that. I suppose that is what three-and-a-half years out of the ring does. I think I did alright - this guy only lost his unbeaten record in his last fight. I am just gutted. I am not a failure, that is not how my career should end but I have to have a good think about it now."

Quite an upsetting interview with Ricky there. How were we all scoring it before the stoppage then?
I had it dead even, four rounds apiece. Was happy to give Hatton the closer, scrappy rounds due to him forcing the issue, but the cleaner boxing was coming from Senchenko, over and over again.

Re: Hatton Undercard
That truly was heartbreaking. Ricky's failed nobody, he lost to two fighters that would have knocked seven bells out of 99% of fighters that have ever existed, the two greatest of his generation, and to be KO'd by them is no disgrace.
He copped a good body shot then, it can happen, but that wasn't the same Ricky Hatton.
I just hope he can be at peace within himself after that...that interview has worried me because it seems he thinks he is a failure. Let's just hope the right people say the right things to him and he realises his value to this country as a fighter and an ambassador. He's one of our finest and his legacy will not be tarnished by this fight. In fact it was a success in the most important way - he got his life back on track and proved plenty to himself and others.

Re: Hatton Undercard
Chris, I had it the same as you. A properly scored fight would likely have seen Senchenko take that by two had it gone the distance.

I didn't score it but my gut was Senchenko was a couple up but as you say there were a couple fo scrappy ones, in those I tended to go with Senchenko as the quality was with him, could not really give them Hatton because for me he wasn't really forcing the issue was just plodding forward eating jabs.

Wasn't scoring round by round after the first few as I was more concerned with how bad Hatton looked. Based on the pattern of the fight, it was very close so I would agree with your scoring a draw or Senchenko up slightly, not Hatton by 4 rounds like in the interview.

If the 9th had finished Chris I'd have given it to Senchenko making it 5-4 in his favour. Hattons timing was well off and he was too easy to hit. That said he did have a few good moments and won the first half of the fight. Senchenko, like most east European fighters, has good fundamentals and Hatton doesn't give enough angles to negate the jab & straight right. A shame, hopefully Ricky can be more accepting of this defeat knowing he gave it his best shot.

Well, been banned by Union for "streaming" - Didn't post a link, just said I will be streaming the fight by my own means. And would like an explanation why as i broke F.A. in terms of house rules.
And feel so, so bad for Hatton. Had it all square but he looked so, so bad. This guy is a poor fighter and he gassed big time and looked amateur like even in the early rounds.
The guy is shot, massively.

I wouldn't say Hatton gassed, in fact I thought fitness wise he looked good, it was his timing that wasn't there, but yeah I agree he is massively shot.

I thought he did alright. Up to the finish of course. Granted I was coming from a place of very low expectations. Hatton has been a 6 round fighter for a long time, and he was up after 6.
He was in bits after it though, you've got to feel for the guy, that fight was everything for him.

Froch is a first class d1ck that is now confirmed. His time will come.
Hatton seemed quite fit just timing was off and he went back in with a top 5 after 3.5 years. Props for that. I would say take a couple of tune ups and learn to jab.

Senchenko didn't have to do much to win the fight - Ricky did a lot of it for him by chasing, throwing wild punches and walking in straight lines, a lot of Senchenko's stuff was like pad work against Hattons static head. The body shot was nice though, you could see how badly Ricky wanted to get up but it just wasn't there.
