Can someone explain what it means if San Diego are +1 against Baltimore?

Basically, if you give San Diego 1 point extra, do they win.

Its a bit of a pointless line to be honest, makes more sense with a line like San Diego +3. In that case if the final score was Chargers 20 - 22 Ravens, you would win your bet.

Ok think I understand (just used that example as it was from the bookies I was just at). But say I had chosen Baltimore to win but SD were +1 would need Baltimore to win by 2 points or more?

Basically as BamBam said, you ignore the real "result", add the +1 to San Diego's score and re evaluate the result for betting purposes

Yup, that's it.

Effectively you -1 from Baltimore's score, if they are still winning then you win

If it is a line like -1, -2 etc then it means the bookies don't really have a favourite to win. Compare that to the Broncos-Chiefs line for today, Broncos are -10 to start with

I know some people like it but I've always hated handicap betting especially backing the team to cover the handicap.

The pain of watching a team run down the clock because they're winning when I need them to be winning by more crucifies me. I'll always settle for the shorter odds for them just to win.

I found myself doing that on Sunday Hibbz. Had a 5 fold, all on total points over/under. Needed 1 more point from the Steelers-Browns game to win. Bloody useless fools

Not that I'm still bitter or anything

Simpler way is just Baltimore would have to win by more than a point.
