Captain Cockbain?? Surely that's asking for trouble, especially from the headline writers...

Still, his team won today! And Batty had a decent strike rate, albeit his innings only lasted 2 balls... Smile

2 balls too long!

I don't think Cockbain (pronounced "Cobain") was really in charge, just a Cricinfo co-up (pronounced "c**k-up").

Glad to see Surrey still unbeaten in this year's CB40....

On previous form I would settle for 0/0 !

Surrey's season hasn't really started in the cc either. A couple of largely uneventful high scoring draws while all around there is mayhem with crushing defeats and spectacular comebacks.

I wonder who got the best deal - Gloucs in getting Batty or Glam who signed up Walters "the Walking Wicket". Walters seems to be doing quite well so far - and kept Glam in the game yesterday.

Hi CfS - yes - (from the Surrey thread), J Batty is ultra versatile - bats anywhere from 1 - 8 and I'm sure if he maintains present form he could manage as an effective 9 - 11 if pressed Very Happy

Would prefer it if he batted at 12.

That means he will be available for selection to my team of ex-Surrey players now playing with other counties (see Surrey thread) Very Happy

I see that today Batty scored a well constructed zero off three balls - I would say the number nine slot is his for the taking Smile

Current Batty form: 0 off 3 balls.
(Not sure how his Bowly or Keepy form is.)
Where would he be in your ex-team?

Chris - on reflection I think that what Batty needs is a period of stability - probably all this wandering up and down the order has all been a bit too much. Give him a regular slot at No 11 and I am sure that, boosted by a few not outs his average will begin to climb. Wink

Oh dear - Glocs crushed by Northants. What's happened to the top order? First six batsmen between them in two innings each could only muster one score of any significance (Taylor - 54). "Captain" Cockbain, Coughtrie and A Gidman hardly did better than Batty...

We'll have to work hard for that wooden spoon after the first two games, but I still reckon we can do it Wink

Spiny - your £5 is in some danger - Kent and Leics don't exactly look like world beaters so far.... Wink

Corporal, how dare you criticise our top order; they're racing along today at 60-4 off 20 overs...
