Who's Got The Biggest Muscles?

I can see (judging by some of the answers) that this poll question is proving a little more difficult than intended therefore I will add a little clarification. Just look at each of the photographs and judge who in your opinion has the biggest muscles. Obviously some people may have bigger muscles than those included but you can only vote for one of the players in the top ten. So who do you think has the biggest muscles?

This fun poll actually forms part of some highly scientific research so don't be decieved.

But if you a serious tennis fan who has been away for a while you are in for a big shock. Tennis has changed radically in your absence and in order to compete for an audience that prefers reality TV a new rule has been introduced to "spice it up" (or rather dumb it down...)

bogbrush and Jeremy_Kyle. I guessed that some would try and corrupt the poll. In fact you have both validated one of the theories behind it. The theory that some fans may have reasons for assessing and attempting to persuade others which players have the biggest muscles that are not based on fact or unbiased data.

Of course when I set up the poll I understand that it was important to use an unbiased method of selecting the images. I typed in the name of the player using "google image" set it to images posted in the last week and chose the first image that showed the player lifting their arms in celebration. I chose this particular pose as it was a common one and I could show all players posed in a similar way. It was also a pose that revealed a players arms in a relatively un-flexed way. Judging the images rather than per-conceived ideas is a better way to decide who's got the biggest muscles. I wonder if you even looked at the images I provided? Why not try again using uncorrupted data?

bogbrush. I linked a picture posted in the last week. Did you read how I sourced it? The method was used to select a random picture and also a recent one. I'm pretty sure the method for selection would be acceptable for use in a scientific study.

Have you looked at all the pictures? Why not do so? I would be interested in your honest opinion.

Ha ha! I knew I was walking into trouble with this poll but sometimes I just can't help myself. That's not to say it isn't scientific. One of my theories has at least been proved...

Hmm.......... I understand random selection methods perfectly fine thanks. The issues I have with your assertion that it is scientific are as follows.

1. Judging someones body mass from a photograph is not scientific.
2. If you are picking a time frame, you need to do as comprehensive a search of available data as possible and account for its limitations in the methodology. Your search does not satisfy this.
3. In order to draw any conclusions whatsoever the photos all need to be in identical conditions. This covers distance, angle, pose. lighting etc. Yours are not.

In conclusion, the selection may be relatively random and fine for a tabloid style story but scientific? Pfft!

Of course they have minds! But not everyone has open minds and a fair few have an intense dislike of a particular player because he beats their own favorite player. Wouldn't it be great if the reason for this wasn't tennis "skill" but maybe something else.... mmm maybe muscles? If the evidence isn't there why not find some or even imagine it?

I'll ask you again. Why not look at the images and tell me what you think? If I didn't think you had a mind why would I be interested in your opinion? On the images of all the players not just Nadal. Oh and for what it's worth I did select them randomly but I think you know that don't you?

If you think you can find a better set of images to compare and a better random method of selection please do. It's not easy to get them all in the same pose and same lighting conditions. Seriously it would be interesting to see all the players in an identical pose so if you've got the time go for it?

The problem I have is with your idea that this is a rule to disadvantage Rafa. Why do you feel this way?

My issue is your contention that it is scientific and that we don't understand random selection. The article is fine as far as it goes. I'm sure that if ten other posters each randomly selected a picture of each top ten player used by the media in the last week the resulting polls would each produce different results.

I like the way this "scientific survey" has a picture of Murray with his arm bent and tensed whilst Nadal's picture has him with his arm lifted straight above his head.

A more interesting comparison would be between Nadal's arm now and when he was 20/21. It is astonishing quite how large his arm was then. Definitely much less defined now.
