Assuming the chariot boys win, who's gonna finish second?

I may sound like a loon but nothing in this tournament is a foregone conclusion.

What if Italy beat England? Very unlikely but possible!

Pre tournament it was France to win with a possible grandslam.
After round 1 it was an Ireland slam with a Welsh wooden lovespoon.
France were expected to beat Wales.
Ireland were expected to beat Scotland.

I'm not making any more predictions.

In 2009 Wales could have beaten Ireland on the last day to win back to back championships. Instead they lost by two points with the most marginal penalty miss and finished fourth!

Stick a tenner on Italy to beat England. Highly optimistic but the odds would be sexy.

Italy beating England at Twickenham would be the biggest upset in Six Nations history. Is it impossible? No, it's not - but I wouldn't put money on it happening.

I predicted Scotland would win the 6Ns before a ball was kicked in anger. I may end up being wrong but they're not doing better than I thought. They are doing worse than I hoped.

Mind you I wasn't very serious about it either.

I don't know what to think now.

I was predicting a French grand slam with the sort of self-satisfied smugness that you normally only find in Jack Wills catalogues. Anyone I met who disagreed with me was subjected to the very worst "well clearly you didn't see them in the autumn..." spiel I could muster. I was so self-assured, I was like that guy from Made in Chelsea with the horn-rim glasses.

Conversely, for my beloved Scotland, I predicted a string of brave but heavy defeats. I may have talked a good line on here, but deep down I knew the truth. I even bought a ticket for the Italy match, genuinely thinking that we would lose, and beforehand I viewed the whole day as some sort of cathartic experience meant to atone for the fact that my job is totally morally repugnant.

Which all goes to show what I know.
