Is Rigondeaux the best boxer on the planet right now?
Just rewatched the Donaire fight, and my goodness Rigo's skills are sublime. I would say his boxing skills are in excess of Floyd Mayweather's. However, to Floyd's credit he has faced a wider variety of opponents over multiple weight divisions and to date has remained undefeated.
Not sure if everyone agrees with the statement that Rigo is the best boxer alive at the moment? Given his victory over Donaire (2012 fighter of the year) is probably a better victory than any opponent Mayweather has on his CV. Rigo can go on to beat the likes of Mares and really clean up the lower weight divisions within 20 professional fights.
His obvious problem is that he isn't box office as Bob Arum has alluded to, which may prevent him reaching the heights that should be achievable with his skills.

you can't say he is the best fighter in the world when he has only had 12 pro fights.

He made doñaire look poor! Doñaire looks massive does anyone know there fight night weights?? It makes me think doñaire bully's his appoinants with size and power and when a boxer with movement comes in he would struggle, rigondeux really did make it look easy! Don't really think its better than anything mayweather has on his cv tho! If someone beats rigondeux does that make them the best boxer in the world?

His performance over Donaire was masterful, but it wasn't a 120-108 fight. Rigondeux allowed Donaire to win rounds by not really doing anything and was hurt bad in the 10th when he was dropped
An obvious talent but I can't see Mayweather (or even Ward) dealing with fighters at the level of Cordoba and Marroquin as poorly as Rigo did
Rigo is probabaly the best defensive fighter alongside Floyd (even better?) , but Floyd has a greater offensive arsenal and I think is smarter and better over the 12 round distance

but you are saying he is the best pro fighter over 1 victory. If guerrero beat floyd would he have been the best in the world?

what else has he done in the pro game to warrant being the p4p best pro fighter in the world?

Rigo's skill level transcends boxing brackets - rare exceptional talent's won't be confined to unnecessary delineations such as Pro and Am.
Pro accolades and records don't necessarily translate into boxing ability. The OP asked "is Rigo the best boxer in the world?". I answered yes, he is.
The OP did not ask "is Rigo p4p no' 1?" (whatever that is).
Should Rigo, Mayweather and Ward be equal size then in mythical match-ups Rigo beats both.
Does that make him P4P? Probably not; because historical achievements are sometimes controversially factored into the p4p peculiarity.

Re: Is Rigondeaux the best boxer on the planet right now?
I have much love for Mackem's way with words.
My answer is that I don't know, and we'll only find out for sure as time goes by. History showed us Donaire likes opponents to come at him but didn't show us just how much he hates it when they don't. Rigo showed us that.
Still, the fights that made many of us think Donaire would finish him did happen and only future tests will see if he's eradicated the slaws. Eradicating Mares would be a good way to start.
I know Ward and Mayweather weren't this good after 12 fights, although they were younger.
