The Flyweights
The first of the 606v2 knockout tournaments will be contested by the smallest men of all the flyweights, as per usual we will have a starting eight whom will compete in fantasy match ups in a knockout style tournament, just need to gauge a few opinions on whom you all think should be included. The winner of each fight will be decided you the posters of V2 with an average outcome used.
My eight in no particular order
Wilde
Villa
Lynch
Perez
Canto
Kingpetch
Kane
Lopez
To avoid confusion for the flyweights I am including light flyweight and straweight

Re: The Flyweights
Ayup Atom, good to see this idea rolling again. Mine would be, in a rough but probably not exact order, the following.
Jimmy Wilde
Pancho Villa
Pascual Perez
Frankie Genaro
Pone Kingpetch
Benny Lynch
Sot Chitalada
Midget Wolgast
Tried to make it an interesting mix of styles and so on. Would have loved to include Jimmy Barry of course, but given that film of him simply isn't available it wouldn't make much sense too in this case.

Re: The Flyweights
I might make a case for Pongsalek Wongjonkham if I could ever figure out what the hell to make of him.
I have seen him creep into plenty of top ten pound for pound lists now yet his record may aswell be in double dutch. Only seen him ight sparingly so I dont know how to rate him really. Seems to fall somewhere between one of the greatest asian fighters of all time and a completely overrated fighter who fights kickboxers.
Might be arguments for Carbajal or even Fighting Harada given his brief time there. Khoasai Galaxy would be an interesting inclusion if super flys wre included as he was real quality.

Who's your eight then Manos, someone like Galaxy will be eligible for inclusion in the bantamweight one, going to keep it to the original eight with a couple of the higher classes included as well but the weight differences at lower weights make it reasonable to suggest a world class super flyweight would compete against well or can at least be compared against bantamweights.
And Chris no Lopez?
Agree on Wonjongkam, like many of the asian fighters he's fighting opponents from the same region whom I simply know nothing about but he seems quite highly rated by the ring magazine so can't be complete garbage

I admit Ive become most interested in him recently as he keeps appearing now in these pound for pound lists yet nobody seems to have much of a handle on him. I get the impression his extensive record and the fact he holds a belt makes people feel they have to have him up there without genuinely being able to assess him. Even reasonable souces like the Ring dont seem to provide satisfactory evaluation of him.
Is this guy just over in Asia fighting converted kickboxing novices with a strap or is he genuine pound for pound material?

Re: The Flyweights
You can never tell with the asian flyweights. Sot Chitalada was a kick-boxer who won the fly title after 3 pro fights. Didn't he have a british coach (Charlie something). Apparently his walk around weight was 140lbs and has suffered internal organ damage due to weight cutting.

Re: The Flyweights
His record would be far easier to understand if he wasn't fighting absolute crude all the time but has some decent wins over Kameda and Naito whom I still know very little about. Not in any position to help you on this one unfortunately Manos. Shamed to say my list of eight was picked almost because of them being the only quality I know.

That's cool Chris, assumed you'd done that as was fairly certain you'd have included Lopez whom would I be mistaken in thinking featured in your forgotten greats series?

The fact their are boxrecs top 10 right now in that exact order might have something t do with it.

Too messy for me, with a few of the best ones fighting already and not really wanting to include people who didn't fight there. I'll join for the next one MA.

Going to do the classic 8 and possibly 140lbs which has a fair bit of history behind it but wont bother with the other junior classes
The 8 Flyweights are as follows in no particular order
Villa
Lynch
Kingpetch
Wilde
Canto
Lopez
Perez
Genaro
I've got the randomly number 1-8, if you would like to draw them for me PBK?
