We need to strike and if we can get them out this session. We will have the conditions for the rest of the day.. Bad toss to win this one otherwise

It wasn't a bad toss to win it was a bad call to bat in those conditions

Scrumpy i think we threw our wickets away abit tbh.. Blame the top 4 batters for that. Our decision was clearly based on having swanny to bowl the last innings

Do not understand cook choosing to bat in the worst of the conditions and handing this perfect day to Aussie.

yes that was a major factor.....given the the pitch was kept dry and some cracks left on it to assist England's clear strength the spin department.

Smith already topscorer for the match so far

But it would have been anyway, this just gives Aussie a massive and fairly easily earned first innings advantage after a day batting today.

Runs flowing far too quickly for England's comfort. Australia 103-4, only 112 behind.

That's the 50 for Steven Smith. Brought it up with a fabulous shot against Graeme Swann. Attacking Swann straightaway, just like he did yesterday.

And the new era of Aussie ashes dominance has started and will last a good ten years.

England simply don't bat well enough and the young players are not up to it anymore and old boys like your namesake just don't produce it anymore.

Swann ain't getting much help so far either.

The good thing for Australia and bad from Eng's POV......is that every Aussie batter to follow can score some runs....and the new ball is 50 overs away.......so unless they find reverse.......200 more runs are likely before Eng gets a new ball

First half hour all Australia. Smith playing well ...seems to want to get after Swann.
Conditions much better for batting today so England will have to work hard for these wickets.

1-0 Aussie then.

I think 3-1 up here and 5-0 down there seems the most likely now we've seethe difference in batting class.

One world class man goes and a totally classy wicket keeper arrives. Is a procession of quality genious best ever players.

Should be a breeze for aussie as msp says.

Now Haddin is at the crease and England will want his wicket early...he is a very useful batsman , and more experienced than most.

Smith played a very good knock to steady Australia clap  Though many didn't want him in the team , favoured Warner...

Swann bowls Haddin Shocked

Big rip on that ball !

Oh and thanks to whoever said smith had come of age. My jinxes have been useless today so the support was appreciated,

Big wicket for England, Peter Siddle goes. He had scored twin 50s at 9 in India. Seems Australia messed things up by shifting him from 9 to 8. Mitchell Starc has a test top score of 99.
