Yeah, those pairings are difficult to split. Tyson a better fighter than Holyfield for me but Evander has some big wins.

I would swap Holy and Lewis, but that is the only change i would make. As said earlier, it becomes very difficult to separate them at that level and becomes pure opinion.

88Chris - Nothing against Larry, Make my top 15, though. It was a snap list. Maybe if I Had to cross-reference the tapes, find out wether those guys ate the right type of diet in the build-up to the fight, Wether they faced guys who were in shape... I'll compile a More accurate list... And give Mr. Big Pants an honorary spot.

Always easier to poke holes in top tens than create your own, though.

Been a while since I had a rejig of the Heavies so not entirely happy with this, but right now something like....

the Sharkey one is tricky Truss. By modern scoring Sharkey would almost certainly have got the nod as he had much the better of more rounds. However as this was the era of transition from the fight to the finish era fights were still scored to some extent on the perception of who would win had the fight gone to the finish and who looked fresher at the end and most agree that was Jeffries.

Adam Pollack quotes a number of newspapers from the day in his Jeffries biography and opinion does seem genuinely split, with plenty championing both fighters cause and a lot saying the draw was perhaps fair.

The Fitzsimmons one also seems a bit of a myth. No doubt Bob was having the better of it before the finish but throughout Jeffries was agrressive and was beginning to get to him more and more with each round. To be honest though Jeff was always a bit of a slow starter and tended to get up a head of steam late on so reasonable to expect he would have done similar this time round.

The Evan Fields thing rankles. Looking back at the 3rd Bowe fight he was ridiculously blown up -- almost cartoon-like. Dr. Margaret Goodman said his "heart attack" in the Moorer fight (first) was the type of ailment synonymous with chronic HGH use. Nothing proven, though. Depending on which way the wind blows I could swap him for Tyson.

Charles may do better in a p4p list..But not top 10 for me..

Watched a top ten by bert sugar, along with larry holmes, chuvalo and atlas recently. It may have influenced my inclusion of charles there truss!. I do find that once you get past four or five names a lot of the top 15 is interchangeable

Hey look If you think Charles should be there..put him there......

Just think his two defeats by the Rock and his two losses to Jersey (I know he beat him four times I believe)...Just have him back end of 15-20 for me..

Great great fighter.......Stupid in Marciano 2 though...

Still waiting for az, tophat, shah, wincester, hampo and seans offerings for different reasons! Should all be good reading. Cheers for those that have already contributed.

Dempsey, Jeffries and Marciano are out for a start....on one of the lists....

The best I have seen are Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Frazier, Liston, Holyfield and Bowe. There are legends like Marciano and Dempsey but I havent seen much of them so I wouldnt include them.

Oh dear Bowe and no Lewis.........Just happens to be a few LEWIS fans on here as well..

As I said on my other thread, I think Lewis is overrated. I dont think he was as good as the boxers I listed at their best. Im not including boxers I havent watched.

Your list is your list.....I have Lewis not much ahead of Bowe..

Would have liked Frazier higher with bias but couldn't justify it. After my top 5 the next 10 could be in any order at all.

Good list not sure about Liston though..

As I said Truss the 10 after top 5 would be different if I did it again now. Lewis, Holyfield and Jeffries could come in for any 3 there except smokin Joe obviously.

You'd have Frazier higher If you were discussing it on the streets of philadelphia..

Charles being ranked so highly by Sugar mystifies me. I cant see any way he places as high as 7 ahead of the likes of Holmes, Foreman, Frazier etc other than the fact he preceded them.

Can those that have rated Foreman in the top five posts a few of the their reasons. I accept that in head to heads his does well, but in terms of record his is pretty poor, his first reign has his best win, but Frazer was tailor made for him, and Norton whilst being good was not an ATG. His other victory in that reign was against Jose Roman. then lost to past his best Ali .Second career saw a lucky win against Moorer, but losses to Holyfield , Morrison, Briggs, and a lucky MD to Axel Shulz. is that really enough to put him above say Tyson or Lewis? Four world title victories gets you top five? Sorry but I just don't get it.

Frazier twice....Lyle and Norton..all top heavies.......and then came back and won the title twenty odd years later...Moorer.....Cooper....

Norton is a heavy alltime great........Young, Quarry and the Ali trilogy.....

Foreman was a monster. He absolutely thrashed one of the greatest heavyweights of all time in Joe Frazier and damned nearly beat the greatest into mush. Ali was never the same fighter after the beating he took from Foreman.

George was a well schooled destroyer - better footwork than he was given credit for and adept at closing down the ring. It's not outlandish to imagine he'd have remained champion for an age had Ali wilted under that attack in Zaire.

Granted, Norton fell before almost every big puncher he faced but he was a fine fighter who went more or less even-up with Ali and Holmes. He also has the donnybrook with Rob Lyle - there aren't many heavyweights who have survived such a war.

His second career was remarkable. The Holyfield effort was admirable and the Moorer win knocks up his rating. The Briggs defeat was baloney while Morrison - a confirmed steroid cheat - had to run like the wind to sneak past him. If he'd have stood his ground -- like Briggs -- he'd have been obliterated. That's amazing for a fighter who was mixing with Ali and Frazier in the 70's.
