Re: OWGR Week 33
Would think this week will mark the start of many rivalries between Spieth and Patrick Reed - Spieth obviously the darling of the media but will Couples pick him for Muirfield Village?
There are going to be some surprising omissions from this year's Pres Cup Team and I wouldn't be surprised if Fred just ignored all the Furyk/Stricker/Simpson/Dustin/Bubba claims and picked two of Horschel/Reed/Spieth unless someone else makes a compelling claim this coming fortnight.
Not a great field at Gleneagles but five of this top 61 should be there, hopefully more than 24 points to the winner, perhaps about 32?
Thanks robo . . . .

Re: OWGR Week 33
Quick look... I think Gleneagles will be 7 players inside the top-61... but still not enough to raise it out of the minimum 24. Pprobably will score about a 22 (low 80's ERV range)kwinigolfer wrote:Would think this week will mark the start of many rivalries between Spieth and Patrick Reed - Spieth obviously the darling of the media but will Couples pick him for Muirfield Village?

As for Freddie and Prez Cup... Yeah.. there might be some surprising omissions... just because it's a numbers game and some "names" are gonna get left off... no other way around it. And I'd like to see some thinking out of the box too.. but not expecting it. Biggest mystery might be trying to figure out what major announcement the USGA has in store for Prez Cup week... :-)
Spieth and Reed... definite solids... both of them. Obviously the boys have skills.... but it's the "intangibles" about them that impress me. Spieth is kinda inconsistent... but on the weeks he has it... he doesn't back down when in contention. When in relative contention going into Sunday, Spieth has backed up only once.... but the other 6 or 7 times he had very solid final rounds. And he didn't lose yesterday... just got beat by another resilient young player.
Best line of the week on Reed from Peter Alliss:
@TweeterAlliss
Well done young Patrick Reid, rumours are his caddy is on the highest percentage on tour. Splendid.
Maybe soon enough Peter will learn how to spell his name.... :-)

Non-PGAT members qualifying for Web.com playoffs (from Euro Tour - Equivalent to member #200 or better on FedEx list - 92 pts):
Fdez-Castano 403, Olesen 307, Sterne 276, F Molinari 244, Jimenez 277, Siem 221, Lowry 188, Paul Lawrie 184, Donaldson 164, Wood 145, Cabrera-Bello 143, Coetzee 135, Manassero 128, Grace 126, Gallacher 120, Noren 97, Fraser 93.
Those in bold above show to be entered in Wales... same week as 1st Web.com playoff event.
Other non-ET members eligible include: Peter Tomasulo 186, John Peterson 128, Jeff Klauk 115, Patrick Cantlay 96,
- - - - -
Via his 15th place finish at Greensboro, Hideki Matsuyama earned enough non-member money to be equivalent to #118 on the money list and thus has earned 2013 PGAT membership (if he accepts as expected).
CORRECTION: I was incorrect on the strike out portion above. As per the PGA Tour, while there is still more official money to be won, for purposes of securing a card for next season the money list was final as of yesterday. So Hideki Matsuyama has earned equivalent to #118 and it will stay that way... Also Peter Hanson who is #124 on the money list is safe for next season too. Even if 2 of the 4 players mentioned above were to pass Hanson in final official money via earnings in the playoffs... it doesn't matter.... Hanson has his card.

Interesting that the FE top 125 cutoff was higher this year than either of the last two years. And with one less tournament (Mayakorba)

Re: OWGR Week 33
My guess is just randomness of the point distribution throughout the list... But the 2013 total FE points earned by the top-25 was down 441 points compared to last year, which might could be explained by the missing alternate event? And the total for 2012 vs 2013 only varies by less than 1/2 a percent.GPB wrote:Interesting that the FE top 125 cutoff was higher this year than either of the last two years. But then again... 2013 total for top-125 is still about 2000 point higher than 2011, and with 1 less event than 2011.

Re: OWGR Week 33
There are some players having poor years, and who may not progress far in the Play-Offs or have missed them, who will slide pretty quickly with no other Tour events for six weeks at least. Like Van Pelt, for instance, Watney or Rickie Fowler, Colsaerts or Ryan Moore. Augusta not a sure thing for any of them unless they can stop their slide in the autumn.

Fowler is 40 in the fedex standings.
He will probably play the first two at least.

Re: OWGR Week 33
robo,
Do you know what the owgr structure will be for the web.com Tour Finals? There could be some decent fields!
(See Casey, Olesen, Fisher and Gonzo, among others, are signed up for Wales and/or Crans. Good news for O'Grady, though why Casey is not in this week's field is beyond me, twice a winner at Gleneagles.)

Re: OWGR Week 33
The first 3 events will receive a minimum of 16 rating (as opposed to the usual 14)... the final will be considered the flagship event and get 20. And theoretically they could go above these amounts if the Event Rating Values warrant...kwinigolfer wrote:robo,

Re: OWGR Week 33
And by the way... OWGR made it official Tuesday that the World Cup will get OWGR points and awarded as per the same method as WGC's (using current OWGR rankings for home ERV's).

Re: OWGR Week 33
Crying shame (especially on you O'Grady) that Gleneagles has to be subsidised, but at least Weisberger, Lawrie, Rumford, Thongchai and Frannie are in the shake-up, so far anyway, and Olesen and Gallacher not too far behind.
Hoping for better next week with the first event of the 2014 Ryder Cup qualifying season - at the DeutscheBank also, of course.

Ha,
A new #2?? Must be close.
And has De Laet overtaken Tim Clark (and Thongchai) in the Pres Cup qualifying table?
Despite Jim Nantz's cheerleading, Jim Furyk still not much nearer Fred Couples' Pres Cup Team.
Tiger, Sneds, Phil, Kooch, Keegs, Duff, Bill Haas, Hunner, Webbgod, Zachgod
Then: Stricker, Dustin, Furyk, Bubba.
The rest: Nowhere.

Re: OWGR Week 33
Kwini: I think Cntl + Alt + Delaet has crashed the top 10 of the Int'l Prez Cup standings. I think he needed about 25 points more than Tim Clark to pass him and he got 28 points for the 4-Way Tie 2nd.
Right now, only one Asian on the team (Matsuyama). I think there will be a lot of political pressure on Price to pick a Korean since the PC is headed there in two years. Not that any of them really deserved to be picked considering the way that they have played this year. Odd-Job is probably first in line.
Of course the other pick is earmarked for Ryo Ishikawa. (Duck and Run)

Have you seen the picture of Delaete on the PGA website? Makes John Terry look like an adonis.

I like Americans very much having spent a few weeks there last month. However there is no doubt there are a lot of moronic and very stupid American golfers. Correct though, the PGA pictures do not flatter anyone.

Nine chins actually had the grades to attend Stanford without a golf scholarship.
Pretty ridiculous even for you to list him with the god squad.

Mac, I was referring to his other patently stupid displays. You can be academic but still stupid. Nine Chins interviews and thinking he can get away with pumping lots of gugget women prove he's not too bright
