Quick Question David Price
David Price
Have yet to hear anything from him.
Can he yet become a high level boxer or will he fade into a 'step up' gate keeper?
Does he have stamina problems?
Team issues? Fran Smith or Lennox Lewis?
If you were his promoter who would you match his next 3 fights?
I would suggest
1 Martin Rogan
2 Michael Sprott
3 Kevin Johnson

Re: Quick Question David Price
He was matched too easy and showed his lack of experience when he stepped up. Not too dissimilar to Cleverly.
Price is a big man and quite athletic for his size and obviously he has big KO power, they are still good attributes. He will need to get back to fundamentals and that includes a new trainer and getting rid of Maloney who set him up for a fall some would allege to stop himself from going to the wall.
It is a long road back and he desperately needs rounds against durable clever opponents who will help him develop. He basically ploughed through the British scene with his punching power so should he develop some ring smarts I think he has a good career ahead of him. It's up to him if he can take that to world level.

I read an interview with him and it sounds very much like he overtrained.

sounds like a terrible excuse due to the fact he lost to the same guy twice in six months. It is no coincidence that as soon as he stepped up a level he got KO'd twice.John Bloody Wayne wrote:I read an interview with him and it sounds very much like he overtrained.
Not sure how Price finds a way back. He is 30 which is a tough age to rebound from 2 successive KO defeats. It is also not like he was a top dog who suffered those defeats, he was a novice so it will be even harder to climb that ladder now.
I can only imagine he would have to spend the next 18-24 months fighting people like Rogan and maddalone etc just to build up his confidence again before he can step it up a level.
Personally I think his career is over and if he does continue boxing it will purely be at domestic level only. His career will turn out like enzo macranelli's career.

Re: Quick Question David Price
if could knock thompson over who is definitely world class i don;t see why he can't be knocking over and finishing euro level opponents.
i'd pick him against the likes of mitchell.
his energy levels are a concern, he had nothing left. if he can tackle that, perhaps it was nerves, perhaps it was something a bit more along the lines of low blood sugar. maybe a mixture. if he can figure that out and get his confidence back along the way he'll trouble anyone.
writing him off so quickly is not something i'm willing to do

Absolutely no point writing Price off. He needs to learn how to use the jab properly and control fights. It's going to be a long hard road back but I hope he keeps fighting at a reasonably high standard otherwise he'll be exposed again when he eventusally steps up in class.

Still think he could clean up at domestic and euro level, just nothing beyond that.
Do that for a couple of years, make some money, then be the fight (and heavy ko loss) for Joshua to announce himself on the scene.

I think we make too much of why Price lost and why Clev lost. They lost because they weren't up to it. Especially Price. He was always going to be beaten in hindsight. Clev, he could have lasted a bit longer had he known how to evade punches, circle, put snap in his punches or hold, but he wasn't really good enough either. Fighters like these have to lose before we can confirm it, but esp in Price case, it doesn't matter what he does in camp; he doesn't have it. Clev's granite chin myth was also exposed. Granite, when he is being hit by nurses.

Re: Quick Question David Price
The reason he gassed in the previous Thompson fight, quite simply, was that he was a little too eager in the 3rd and 4th rounds... he fought at a crazy pace following the knockdown, not to put a show on, but to get Thompson out of there due to how dangerous the guy could be.
If he fought at the pace he's comfortable with (like we saw with Sexton and Dallas) then he could go 12 rounds quite comfortably. But throwing the amount of punches he did in the 3rd round is suicide for a guy his size!
It's a harsh lesson to learn, but I don't think he's got the stamina issues people are making out. His chin and defensive skills however?

Harsh Sean harsh........
They may have deficiencies and I don't doubt that but they also were strung along by bad management and a lack of learning fights.
