Entrance music

Just a random question but are boxers paid money by record companies for using their music as their entrance song? I'm sure that music companies would pay mega bucks for mayweather or Klitschko etc to use their music as they enter the ring as it will give a massive amount of exposure to the song and the artist singing the song.

Anyone got any info on this?

I remember that in a post fight interview, Amir Khan was more concerned about the chance to record his own entrance music for the next fight than who he should fight next. It wasn't soon after he got knocked out by Breidis Prescott.

I would have thought it was the other way around and that the boxer would have to pay the artist.

Although your version of events does explain David Hayes entrance music - why else would he have it?

David Haye's a big 70's disco queen. Rumour has it Adam Booth's having his way for the entrance against Fury, he's just been wetting his knickers at the thoughts of David walking out to 70's disco anthem "I Will Survive" by Gloria GAYnor.

To play their song both to a huge live audience and to broadcast it on TV - it's the artist that get paid, not the other way round.

I alwys thought it would be funny if a fighter just decided to mince down to the ring like Louis Spence with ' Its raining men' blasting- might throw your opponent off his gameplan?

You have to pay MCPS (music, composers, publishers, songwriters) and or PRS (performance rights society) for playing music in public places. Next time you're down the pub, or somewhere that plays music, they're likely to have a sticker in the window from one of these organisations.

You basically pay a yearly fee to get a license to play music and the fee varies based on the type of business. I would pretty much guarantee that all venues used for boxing will have to have one, so it's going to be the venue that pays not the boxer. You're supposed to have a license for playing music around the workplace, although not many do.

Similar to a TV licence at home then which of course we all pay for.....

Yeh, he was my first thought. Certainly his simple black shorts, black boots, entry was one of the most intimidating out there. Can't remember if he had no music though...

Had a white collar fight last year and came into 'return of the mack'. Was in a big night club so obviously no issues around licensing, but you might think that it was a little different when a big event is on air to thousands.

I used to write songs and know a little about this.

The venue would have to obtain a PRS (Performing Rights Society) licence to play any kind of published material. Kind of like a TV licence so to speak.

Well that was how it worked in the late 90's anyway!

That guy that sang that stupid Chunky song alongside James Degale should have been paid in horsewhips. Plenty of them.

On entrance music, love wladimir's entrance with can't stop. Gets the crowd going and himself surely. Really builds the atmosphere.

I'd imagine a lot of threads would have been done before.

Regarding this one it's slightly different to that last "Entrance Music" one which was - I believe - about what other posters favourite entrances was.

Vaguely interesting fact around this. Originally Ryan Rhodes was going to use this song when he was appearing on a Naz undercard, Naz listened to it and persuaded him to let him use it instead. Agree it fit well with Naz's persona though. The other one which amused me was when Hatton had his first fight without Warren before Blue Moon he had Gonna Get Along Without You Now playing.

Only really works if Warren is sat watching the fight at home wiping tears from his eyes whilst gazing at a framed photo of him and Ricky. However, I get the impression that Frank was making a point of being out with "friends" that night at a place that didn't have a tv or internet access and when told of the result and entrance music he feined disinterest whilst secretly thinking "Damn you Ricky why why WHHHHYYYYYYY!????"

I love the Uzzy Ahmed youtube vid with the ring entrance and 30 sec KO. I know the footage is taken from 2 different fights of his, but anyone with a ring entrance like that deserves to be shown up for the complete tool that he is

I know many of you have been on tenterhooks over this but did some digging and on other forums it is being claimed the first fighter to use entrance music was Ali against Shavers who apparently came on to the Star Wars music.

Why would Shavers come in to the Star Wars theme? It makes no sense!!!!!!!

I can't view that vid at work. I know he got roped into doing a Prizefighter and accentuating the walk. Maybe its that.

I was at the Brentwood Centre when I saw the KO so just a leisure centre hall type place.
