Re: Mares VS Gonzalez **Spoilers**
Great night of boxing and yet nothing said on here
Oh well, I think that Showtime and GBP will be shaking there heads somewhat
It's no mystery that they were building towards a Santa Cruz-MAres matchup, and halfway through the night they must have been rubbing there hands after LSC steamrolled through terrezas in the 3rd round.
Mares was heavily favoured but he foolishly fought like he did in the lower weights unlike how he boxed early against De Leon. In that fight he boxed early and waited for De Leons power to fall somewhat. Gonzales isn't the fasted and can be outboxed but he has always been a puncher, and Mares should have foguht tentatively early in this fight
Mares can come back, but his style of fighting didn't really suit the higher weights as he is a come forward roughhouse type of guy
Santa Cruz is very exciting though, he reminds me so much of Margarito in that he throws all types of punches, not with lots of KO power, but every shot is heavy but he has a much tighter defence than Marg and moves a lot better

Congrats to Gonzalez for seizing the moment like that. What a round that was!

Santa Cruz is certainly a very exciting fighter, and because of his size, you could see him moving up through the weights a bit. Never likely to be in a dull fight, and has a good all round skillset.
For Mares though, I don't know where this leaves him. Gonzalez is a hard hitter, and I guess he could do that to anyone really, but Mares was all set to kick onto super-stardom and this will set him back a lot...
There has been so many shock results over the past few weeks, wonder if that'll continue into September!! Perhaps Canelo knocks out Mayweather in the first round, Garcia knocks out Mathysse and Fury manages to beat Haye convincingly. Could all happen. Maybe.

A rematch is probably quite likely, Mares was on the cusp of the p4p top ten, then he goes and loses to Gonzalez, still he's got plenty of time on his side.

Yeah, I'd agree Terror, rematch is quite likely. Mind you, if Gonzalez finds a shot like that first knockdown again, Mares would have to do some major career rebuilding.

Re: Mares VS Gonzalez **Spoilers**
Yeh i had a dream the other night that Mayweather gets knocked out in the first three rounds. Hope its wrong!
The KO last night was a peach of a shot. Mates was so stupid to fight like he did as opposed to working the jab and the body and as many have said, wait for the power to slowly become bearable.

Great shot by Gonzalez, wish Boxnation had picked this one up, instead of the absolute dross European card.
Haven't seen the Santa Cruz fight yet, I'm currently hunting for it.

Got to say, although Gonzalez was going to finish it, I found it a bit odd that the ref waved off a conscious fighter in the first round having counted all the way up to, what? 2?

I overheard the ref saying your eyes were gone or something like that, he probably didn't like the look.
I thought Mares was finished tbh.

Yeah, but the defending champion in the first round not even being given the option to try and get up is off putting. If the ref thought Mares was still with it enough to actually understand verbal reasoning he was with it enough to try to beat the count.

Re: Mares VS Gonzalez **Spoilers**
And there was no way Marquez was going to see the end of Pacquiao 1 after the first round.
Anyway I'm not arguing that he would have got up, simply that he should have been given the chance.
