TNA Up For Sale?
Nick broke the news last night, but I thought this deserved it's own thread. Dave Meltzer has said that the Carter's are looking to get out of wrestling and have put TNA up for sale. The interesting thing for me is that he says they have been trying to get out for some time with no success.
Supposedly, the most likely purchasers are Eric Bischoff, Jeff Jarrett, Viacom and WWE. I can't see Bischoff risking buying TNA, he'd have nobody to blame failure on if he was in sole charge and I don't see what WWE can gain from having TNA. If they didn't have the academy I'd have thought TNA and their Universal Studios base could have been used for NXT or another developmental area.
The full stroy can be found here.
What are your thoughts on who, if anyone, will step in and buy TNA? If they don't find a buyer how long can the company continue to operate?

Re: TNA Up For Sale?
nobody will buy it I don't think, there's nothing to really buy there. if the wwe wanted certain wrestlers they could just buy them out.
bischoff hasn't really got anything to gain from buying them apart from maybe trying to create a new wcw but I doubt he would even want to try that.
jeff Jarrett possibly but I think he probably knows that impact wrestling is as big now as it will ever get but he's the only one who could conceivably buy it to try and boost attendances and start making a profit out of it. but he isn't as rich as the carters or bischoff (at least to my knowledge).
Viacom I don't know who they are so I will reserve judgment.

I remember Adam mentioning Viacom on one of the Podcasts when we were discussing TNA's future. Unfortunately the combination of Adam speaking and TNA means that I wasn't paying enough attention to be able to remember what he said!

Viacom already own Spike Tv and ....belator
I don't see it out with the realms of possibility of them trying to save there highest rated show

Of course that's who they are. That was my pick for likely outcomes should Panda Pop and Ted Carter pull the plug on the money. I'm going to stick with that, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Bischoff worm his way in as their manager of the company.

Re: TNA Up For Sale?
I would take this story with a pinch of salt, there have been rumours that Tna has been up for sale before. i remember back before Hogan came in there was the rumour then.
I think with all the changes that are happening, cuts, moving to a permament venue etc that its just raised a few eye brows.
Bischoff probably would be interested if he got some backing money wise.
WWE may buy it for a few wrestlers and the video library
Jarrett is another option but same as bischoff would need some financial backing
you never know Ted Turner may want to buy a wrestling company again, he still enjoys wrestling apparently but dont know if he has any sway in time warner anymore
Viacom might be another good option as it been said owns Spike and *whispers* bellator.....
so having Tna would make sense as it is their highest rated show.
Outside bet good old JR gets together some buddies from the old days and buys it and turns it into a cracking show with good long term story lines and booking

Re: TNA Up For Sale?
WWE should buy TNA, base them in Las Vegas and use it a devolvement territory for the West Coast and NXT based in Florida as it East Coast territory
Re: TNA Up For Sale?
Kind of odd that they'd be putting Ethan Carter III in the show, if they're looking for someone to buy the company, don't you think?
That said, how expensive could it be? I can't imagine they have that much in the way of assets, besides the wrestlers and their contracts.
I bid my collection of figurines and signed Jeff Hardy "arm-socks"

Re: TNA Up For Sale?
TNA's biggest hope is being bought out by somebody other than WWE, it wouldn't be a bad idea for somebody in the media business, it already has a decent sized fan-base and brand recognition so it would be preferable to starting up one from scratch, I'm just not sure how viable it is as a business in its current state. Too many high earners considering the size of the company.
I can't see WWE buying it, business-wise it would make no sense, certainly not similar to buying out WCW and ECW which almost all of WWE fans would have been familiar with, a lot of WWE fans won't have watched TNA and won't recognise a lot of the names in there, so their video library isn't worth much to WWE.

Re: TNA Up For Sale?
Im pretty confident if WWE bought TNAs video library they'd be the smallest and least historically significant promotion for which they'd done so

Apparently Billy Corgan formerly of the smashing pumpkins & current owner of ResistancePro is interested in purchasing TNA

He thinks hes been watching since 1998. I presume the years between WCW ending and TNA starting are ones he has no memory of and has just assumed they're the same thing

I would only want Jake owning TNA if he started doing crack again.
Then we would have a show that we could all enjoy.
