South Africa domestic season 2013/2014 Empty South Africa domestic season 2013/2014

Having quietly read through the various domestic seasons, Ive decided its high time the South African domestic scene gets some much-needed love.

The Momentum One day Cup finished about a fortnight ago, and we are currently in the middle of the second game of the first class season.

Lions batsman Stephen Cook scored a pretty big ton, maikng 175 against the Warriors. Making it his second in as many games. One would think that might put some pressure on Alviro Petersen, and if felt it, he has responded superbly, tearing the Warriors attack to pieces en route to a better than run-a-ball century. This could be an interesting sub-plot for the summer, as Petersen simply hasnt properly secured his opening slot in the Test team. Is this the year Cook finally gets a shot?

Will give a proper review of the action on Monday, when all games are done.

Well, the Domestic one day cup has been shared because of rain for two years now, so I don't know.... they don't get the chance to choke

De Kock opens in first class cricket doesn't he? So would you say he's in line to replace Petersen? Because going off his stats, first class is his best format.

Do keep us updated about any emerging spinners, de Kock's wicketkeeping and also the emerging young openers and all-rounders.
I'd be keenly following the progress of Chris Morris and Siman Harmer.

All then: The round-up

First: The Lions drew with the Warriors in a relatively flat match. Neil McKenzie backed up a first innings ton with a fifty, while Alviro Petersen, who might be under a little pressure, scored a rapid ton as the Lions scored a brisk 365/4. This left the Warriors with an unrealistic target of 359 in about two sessions. Game petered out onto a dull draw. Performance highlights.
Cooks 175 firs innings
McKenzie's 150-odd first innings
Colin Ingram's 134 in the Warriors' first innings
David Whites 112 in the Warriors first innings
Petersen's run a ball pyrotechnics.
Unfortunately, no bowler distinguished himself in this match. Lions' leg-spinner Leie took a few wickets, and may be one to watch.

Dolphins vs knights
The rain wreaked havoc in this match, with only one innings being played. Morne van Wyk scored a hundred and that's all I could write about really. Khaya Zondo who announced himself into the cricket fraternity with a t20 ton for the amateurs a few years ago, scored a measured 90,maybe a sign of new found maturity.

Titans vs Cobras
Shaun von Berg announced himself as a serious cricketer with a ridiculous 73-ball ton, while Stiaan van Zyl scored a massive 154, in another rain affected match. Not quite a bowlers week, hopefully the balance will be found next round.

Albie Morkel seemed to have revived his t20 career last night, in the inaugural North vs South t20 match. Putting together a great all-round performance in the "All Star" game of South African cricket.
