Jim Watt has said on many occasion that Kel Brook has 'awesome power'.....dont know if that counts for anything!

Lennox Lewis wasn't a slouch in this department. Also Hamed and Wayne Alexander.

Both hit like mules. Lewis hit hard, but we don't know how much was due to him being a heavy. Benn at middle and Hamed in teeny weeny weight class, they sent people loopy!

Calzaghe in his early days was a knockout artist until his hands went. And he started kissing his sister.

Haye must be up there surely? Love or loathe him he made a ruddy 7ft 270lb giant do the chicken dance... Among other examples.

Hamed I'm not sure is in the top 5, just my opinion that he was beyond awkward with his angles and that although he hit hard wasn't like he had opponents running away from him scared of getting hit. That and most of his oppo were complete pony.

Benn rolled them over early in his career and was clearly very heavy handed but was he that big a ko merchant at the top level? At middle perhaps but less so at super.

Wayne Alexander was a good shout, the tree felling of takaloo is a highlight reel favourite.

Truss can come along and tell us who were the 'British great punchers'... It's like being a great puncher, but in a not very hard punching, small insignificant island kind of way.

Hamed’s old trainer, Oscar Suarez, who also trained Acelino Freitas, himself no slouch in the punching department, was asked who hit the harder and his response was Hamed. He also said it was not even close. He said Freitas hit hard but like most fighters needed to get set to deliver his power. He said Naz could hit hard with his feet off the ground or going backwards, or when doing pretty much everything wrong. Appreciate Naz is not to everyone’s taste on here but don’t for a split second understate his power which was huge.

Rowls, Manny Steward once said he reckoned the body snatcher would be 50-50 against SRL, Duran, Hagler......

Just saying unless you had select few or so who'd each fought each other then it's obviously hard to gauge how hard they hit.

I may leave it alone as we know the soft spot you have for him...

Colin Jones could hit hard, and love him or loathe him Hamed could wallop.

I used to like a kid called Paul scrap Iron Ryan who always seemed to bang out or be banged out..

Just looked at his record and he was 25 wins and 23 by kayo.........

Eubanks hit harder pound for pound then any British fighter.

Lets not forget he held back after Watson.

Enzo Mac is a good shout Haz....

Before the Haye bout anyway.....after that fight he seemed to be on the end of a few knockouts....very good ones like Olafabi.

Haye's power is a little overestimated, particularly at heavyweight. Much was made of the Valuev 'chicken dance'. To me he was caught momentarily off balance and was solid as a rock again moments after. Haye also landed pretty clean on the supposedly glass-jawed Wlad, and very little happened.
I think you have to judge it against the level of opposition and their chin levels. Hamed, for example, knocked out some tried and tested world-level fighters.

Haye & Hamed are certainly good shouts. I also remember Wayne Alexander's utter devastating punch to take out Takaloo. Fearsome power.

Bruno had a pretty good wallop on him. Of his 40 wins, 2 went the distance. the rest were stopped.

Enzo could hit, but the hardest puncher? Hell no.

Gary Mason was a heavy handed guy too.

Haye or naz are by far the hardest p4p British punches.

Haye iis one of the hardest p4p punches the planet has ever seen.

Forget about the power thrown in fights because that is dictated by tactics/opponent. Ask any coach, either pro or am, and the answer is the same; hayes power is insane!

Haye's power at cruiser was frightening. Haye's power at heavy is merely exciting. If he hit as hard as you say he does 3fingers, he surely would've obliterated all the heavies he's fought as soon as he connects. Just look at the difference between Ruiz's loss to Haye and to Tua. I think Tua probably hit harder...

There's no probably about Tua hitting harder. Tua had the most powerful left hook in the history of boxing..... blunt force trauma.

If we happen to count him as British Fitzsimmons is worth a mention. Absolutely fearsome as a middleweight and carried enough power to take good fighters out at heavyweight.

Haye knocks ANYONE out with his BEST shot. Throwing THAT PUNCH in a contest is very different to throwing THAT PUNCH at the heavy bag.

I was listening to The Beta Band when I wrote my last comment hence the "I KNOW". I got a bit carried away with the song.

Wilde's a pretty much nailed on No.1 but after that Hamed isn't a bad shout for 2nd.

How about some left field suggestions, Pyatt? I'm struggling to remember that ginger haired kid who bowled them over regularly but had little other talent or chin....

Naz. Freakish power for a man his size, problem was he relied on it a bit too much for me. Flying in looking for the blockbuster finish when he should have shown a bit more patience. Fantastically exciting fighter nonetheless

Completely forgot about him until tonight but Paul Hodkinson is probably up there.

Apart from Wilde, Benn and Hamed, already mentioned numerous times, I have a feeling that Jock McAvoy was the only British fighter to get into the all-time top 100 pound for pound punchers, as selected by The Ring a few years back. Great hitter and very overlooked fighter, probably a top 30 all-time candidate in UK p for p terms.

Hamed, Wilde and Fitz are the big 3 for me, from the less vaunted Mark Kaylor could ruin your evening pretty quick and Carl Thompson got himself out of jail more than once with a huge shot.

Like him or not Haye is a murderous puncher as well.

Yeah I've nothing against Haye. That shot he took Chisora out with was a peach. Are we talking one shot power or are we talking accumulation? If it's the latter, then Randy Turpin probably deserves a mention.

Hamed was my first thought here - remember reading somewhere that Steward once remarked that taking Hamed on the pads was comparable to taking Tommy Hearns on the pads...

David Haye wins hands down.
