Groves signs with Sauerland

Annoucned on there Twitter page. I think its a good move for him and prevents the Matchroom monopoly, especially after signing DeGale.

Interesting, if you believe the Hearn influence re possible outcome of the Froch fight.

Have always liked GG for this kind of reason, feels like he's his own man, smart, not a puppet, and willing to back himself.

He can build a market out there I'm sure, the fact he has already done shows out there with them suggests they have a decent relationship/mutual appreciation.

And as suggested above, helps prevent the Matchroom monopoly which is a good thing, esp as he's done it by going to a rival promoter MR still have decent relations with, not Frank Warren for example. So maybe we'll still see a DeGale rematch, especially if they're both able to pick up straps......

No point in trying to build one there...

Looks like a Kessler fight maybe on the horizon.

Said it before, will say it again, monopolies/mega-stables are good for the fan, though not necessarily good for the boxer.

Could line him up for fights with Steiglitz, AA & maybe Kess. All good money. No block to JDG, which is almost certainly the biggest domestic fight (esp if JDG gets a strap).

Other than Callum Smith down the line, I can't see who there is for him domestically. Unless someone like BJS or Eubank Jr moves up.

Hope not. I like Groves and I was a Kessler fan during his prime. He was totally shot against Froch in the second fight. I thought the slimester was in with Bambi at some points the way he legs were all over the place. A good name on Groves record no doubt but I dont wanna see a shot Kessler get smacked about again. Glad Groves has signed for Sauerland though

Probably a lot behind the scenes but you always knew Froch was Hearn's golden boy and probably felt it even more after the first fight.

I think it's a good move as he will always play second fiddle to Froch and switching to promoters MR get on with shouldn't prevent any big fights between them.

He must have been given some assurance of big fights to make him switch albeit wouldn't want to see Kessler get a pasting and if AA wins his fights against Smith I can't see anyway AA will want a part of Groves.

Kalle annoys me less than other promoters, he obviously also pays more than other promoters.

Warren still maintains he's the one who pays top dollar to fighters.

That's why they all leave for Eddie

As promoter's go, I quite like sauerland... And his English is better than any uk promoter.

I should qualify that I like his disposition more than his shows.

Wish groves well with it.

Good on him for not joining all the others in the sheep like procession to Matchroom. The 2 Sauerlands sons are pretty much English blokes who spend much of their time in London and i can see them starting to put cards on over here which will only be good for the British fight fans. I expect them to sign up a few more British Fighters over the next few months.

I guess it's a smart move by Groves.

If he can't beat Froch in their rematch, then he can fight Abraham and nab the WBO strap and opens the door for a unification with Ward

Hearn's has made a big mistake should definitely have signed Groves before Degale,Groves won't want to be anywhere near an obnoxious git like Degale and can't blame him,put a dunce cap on Eddie and stand in the corner you've dropped the ball.

Hearn has tried to sign Groves but Groves hasnt been willing. There is definitely something there between the two. Groves can barely hide his contempt for Hearn when he is around him. Hearn tried to get him to sign a multi fight deal during the negotiations for the rematch but Groves wouldnt budge. Ive often wondered if the split between Groves and Booth was a result of Hearns involvemnt and that may be the reason for Groves not trusting him and disliking him.

Also Groves has referred to Froch as 'Your boy' to Hearn before. With the feeling Howard Foster was deliberately favouring Froch in the first fight with the result I think he feels he has been hard done by with Eddie due to Froch being his favourite on the books

Another reason to want to see him lose, bye bye George.

If in a couple of weeks time there's an outcry for Groves Froch 3 then GG now has someone with some financial clout in his corner. Could be a good move signing with Sauerland

I worked in Hammersmith for a brief period aside from that I have no connection to the area, call me old fashioned but I still remember Reid and various others getting screwed because of the men on Sauerlands payroll. Groves might as well be German to me now for all I care.

Has nothing to do with foreign companies, it is something very specific to Sauerland, the promotional company who's fighters seemed to have got the rub of the green far too many times.

And the UK doesnt have any corrupt judges influenced by a British promoter? Beltran won that fight against Burns fair and square. Groves is not German..and even if he was...would it be a problem?

What about Matchroom fighters recently ? Dodgy stoppages, hometown decisions. Sauerland are no different to other promotional companies, all as bad as each other.

All i'll say Rodney is one name; Sven Ottke, the beneficiary of numerous dodgy refs and judges, were it a one off like Burns against Beltran then fair enough but this happened all the time and still does.

Shocking by Groves. After the wonderfully fair treatment he got by the judges and ref on his last matchroom card he goes and does this. Horrible Kraut.

What with Frochs Polish routes and now Groves becoming an honorary German...George needs to be careful that he doesnt 'invade his space'

I hear Groves is supporting Germany in the world cup too.

All he needs is Tyson Fuhrer on his next bill, and to make sure all his family get their towels on the best ringside seats early and then the transformation to Germanic warrior will be complete  
In reality i bet he continues to fight here, i think Sauerland are looking to do much more business over here.
People seem to forget Kalle and Nisse are basically a couple of cockneys and are always in the capital.

Was surprised with this choice at first, but Groves clearly didn't want to be in Hearn's stable and going to the Sauerland stable opens other doors should he lose to Froch. If he wins against Froch and there is a call for a third fight, he will be in an excellent negotiating position.

Personally, I hope he doesn't disappear there for his fights. He is one half of an 80,000 seater sellout in England and win, lose or draw, he is a household name and huge draw in England.

A good move for both George and sauderland, he has access to the matchroom stable, can slag them and Hearn off as much as he likes. Fights in Europe, and should have no problem getting the bigger American fights if he pulls off a froch upset.

He will go the Abraham, Kessler, Stieglitz route if he wins v Froch. And if he loses, he goes the same route.

Not sure it's a smart move.....Groves wins he becomes British boxing's number 1 star and genuine PPV material...SKY is the place for him and Eddie has the deal with SKY...

No reason Groves can't get 20,000 plus gate per defence and sell loads of PPV..

Eddie may not like him signing for a competitor..

Its fairly obvious that Eddie favours Froch. Otherwise he probably would have signed

Froch loses he retired...Groves is a great investment for Hearn..

Also think he is the best man for GG..

I personally hope he goes to Germany and stays there lol when froch beats him this time what excuse is he gonna come up with for the loss.. His shows were too tight froch a ringwalk was too long froch hit him too hard eddies teeth were too white... Hope fully froch wipes the floor with the ginger whinger and he shuts his mouth

When 50,000 of the 80,000 are going to see him win next week..
