New short film about Lucas Browne.

Hi all, something a little different -
Some may remember a short film I made about Joe Gallagher and his fighters a couple of years ago. (I make short films in my spare time)

Well, i've gone back to boxing and made one about Lucas Browne. I filmed him training with Hatton at his gym in Hyde and was invited down to his last fight. Absolute credit to Lucas and everyone at Hatton Promotions as they were happy with me filming everything both before and after the fight.

I believe since this fight he's been working on fitness and wants to enter the ring a good few KGs lighter and a lot fitter. He's a top bloke and considering he got into boxing very late his progress has been very impressive.

Exceptionally well made mate - is that Adobe Premier you've used?

Its great to see the backdrop to some of these sports hall fights, we don't see it but the closeness really creates tension - you can tell Lucas was nervous. Seems like a top guy though - honest about his violent personality!

Your camera shots were good and it looked really well put together. Impressed mate, professional quality.

Browne, seems like a good guy, if one with a violent streak! Didn't see the fight but heard it was close... did you think he deserved the nod?

yeah i would happily make more but i do these for free and with no budget for decent kit so realistically can't give them too much time. 3 days filming (not days, just a few hours over 3 days) and a good few nights editing go into 6 minutes.

really enjoy doing them though but work and family come first. i'll be doing another one soon no doubt.

i was only watching from the sidelines at the back, as filming the fight was off limits (copyright) and was running around swapping batteries and getting audio of the crowd.

from what i saw it was a close fight and lucas took some big shots, i was impressed with his chin as he didn't seem to care about them. plus he was cut which put him off and his fitness wasn't great by his own admission. he's a big puncher but that guy had a serious hard head. i believe the result wasn't in doubt but it was a lot closer than it needed to be. credit to lucas he was disappointed with the result but was more than happy to have me there filming everything back in the dressing room.

thanks pal. it was final cut pro but i do like premiere too. he was calm and ready to go but yeah you can see that he just wanted to get out there and was trying to keep his mind still, calm and focused which must be incredibly difficult before a fight.

would love to do something but it's knowing the right people as these things cost money to make properly.
boxing is an odd game as there are only a few people in the sport - to my experience at least - that fully understand the benefits of social media and having their fighters filmed. hatton promotions are one of few.

joe gallagher is another. i got in touch with him (i knew someone, who knew someone, who knew him...) and pitched the idea of making a 24/7 style mini film about his gym and he was well up for it. you'd think most trainers and promoters would be, but you'd be wrong and it's puzzling to me.

oh and lastly - if anyone wants to put it on their facebooks or twitters - or knows anyone who runs boxing websites please put the link up. these things are powered by social media so the more people that share, the more people that watch. if they do well it's easier for me to do more.

Top quality stuff.  Wouldn't be out of place with any of the top broadcasters!

I'd be mortified if any of my "home made" work was released for general viewing.

Just watched the gallaghers gym piece. Excellent stuff fella. Worthy of a much wider audience. Keep up the good work.

i'm guessing you're watching from a tablet or phone? when you make videos with copyrighted music and it is very prominent, youtube often disable it on tablets or phones. technically they could take it off altogether but then they'd barely have anything on there. here's a vimeo link of it you can watch on anything http://vimeo.com/40806791 it's just my take on the training montage.

this rule only come into place a few months after i uploaded it.

i made it without thinking too much of what would happen to it afterwards. however i was in talks with box nation who wanted to put it out on bunces boxing hour. i tried my luck and requested a ridiculous fee and that was that, haha. however this works more than you'd think so it's worth a shot. (i'm involved in TV).

and sky were interested in showing it (on sky anytime) - however it is full of copyrighted music. i love the music in it and a lot of the sequences are cut specifically to the songs but in order for it to be broadcast on TV they'd have to licence every song, and i think at least one of those songs is difficult to clear.

box nation did show a trailer i cut for it, using music i just knocked out on my guitar in a few minutes. since then everything similar i've done uses free music or specially composed by a mate.

what i like about youtube and vimeo is that anyone with internet can watch it, without a tv subscription, anytime they want as many times as they want. the hard bit is them finding out it's there.
