Pacquiao v Algeri LIVE
First topic message reminder :
Who's staying up for this? Was gonna go to bed inbetween Bellew/Cleverly and get up but, despite time being lineal, it has skipped to 1 am before its time, so an all nighter is in order. A few cans of relentless and I'll be doing clap push ups for the next couple of hours, with the occasional break in which I scrawl the names of strangers I hate on the wall in my own blood.
I shall lower a unicorn's hair into a vile of putrid liquid, and the colour it turns to will tell me the outcome of the fight.

You do understand Algieri is the one who came into the weigh in overweight, right? Besides, Algieri at least has a world title at 140... Guerrero hasn't fought for anything that didn't have a dodgy prefix since 135 lbs. Think he won the IBF Light welterweight combined inter galactic hopsko title, if that counts?

Re: Pacquiao v Algeri LIVE
Yeah was a waste of a fight really. Sat up all night and algieri just did not have any power so Pacman walker through him and showed him no respect.
Of course it was going to be an easy night, Algieri had beaten a poor mans maidana in Prov and got this opportunity.
Saying that, he did catch pacman...get again. .with some straights down the pipe.
Floyd eats this guy for breakfast, always will and always would have.

Just like Hatton outweighed Mayweather on fight night but i'm sure you'd be quick to point out he was moving up in weight.
Guerrero at least has talent and had fought at 147lbs against two ranked fighters, Algieri on the other hand has been the awful Provodnikov and nothing else.

Haha Guerrero is a 3 weight champion who has beat big welters.
You aren't honestly stating that Algeri beats Guerrero? Sure even if he does that does not prove Manny beats Floyd.
Floyd beats Manny with ease come May

Actually... no... I'd like you to provide a quote where I made reference to Hatton's weight in the Mayweather fight. You won't because I never have. I've said it a few times here that I don't mind fighters in "junior/light division" getting a crack at the Champion in the fully fledged one. Seems idiotic to a point to moan about there being too many divisions in boxing, and then moan when two fighters fight in what would have been the same division 40 years ago.

Which big Welters are these? Berto? Would have been a decent enough win in 2008, the Berto Guerrero beat couldn't even beat Jesus

Re: Pacquiao v Algeri LIVE
Ok Floyd is a fraud and Manny is a legend.
I am converted guys. Floyd has fought set UPS his whole career and Manny has taken on beasts.
Oscar was at his heaviest, Ricky never looked better before he fought Manny and Shane found the fountain of youth after Floyd dismantled him.
Do not mention the old Mexican as he got a lucky punch in and has been cowering away since.
Manny Pacquiao the only 8 division belt holder, the real TBE.

Neither are anywhere close to the TBE. Seems the Mayweather fans tend to get more butt hurt over this though.

I thought it was a rather simple question. Which big Welters did we miss Guerrero beating? He fought no one at light welterweight, and having looked it up, has in fact not held a world title, even a "regular" title since super featherweight... which is, you know... three divisions below Welterweight?

Manny is better, he knocked out Hatton quicker and stopped Oscar plus Cotto.

Whatever mate. It would have been easier to admit you really didn't know who Guerrero had been fighting, and assumed that because Floyd fought him, he must have beaten somebody impressive

Can't really be bothered to argue this. I have always said Floyd has been carefully managed the last few years especially since Oscar.

so instead you feel it's better to laughingly state Guerrero faced big welterweights, and then mock me when I call you on your bull.shi.t? You can't be bothered because you got caught speaking garbage, and didn't have the decency to stick a hand up and say you were wrong.

Somehow I think beating Aydin and Berto at Welterweight is better preparation than beating Provodnikov at the weight below but this is Mayweather we're talking about.

Berto has lost 3/5. Aydin 3/6. Together they go a combined 5-6. Hardly Thoroughbred form.

Are you just being deliberately dumb, they're being compared to a relative nobody in the division below, the main point being that the pair are genuine Welterweights.

I still seriously doubt the Pac/Floyd fight will ever happen. I think putting Pac's performances into context with Floyd (and vice versa) is totally redundant. We're not going to get the answers we want.

I called you a d!ck. I thought I was quite clear about it. I responded to a comment you made. And called you a d!ck. Debate the point or don't debate at all. I've never called anybody out in my time here, but I'm not going to get mocked by a person who repeatedly makes a stupid remark and then mocks me for calling him out on it. that's d!ck. Simple as.

Re: Pacquiao v Algeri LIVE
Sorry Hammer, I don't see how beating a world champion at a junior weight is worse preparation in any way than beating a pair of welterweights who comprise of a has been and a never was. I mean... Berto? Maybe a 2009 Berto win... but a Berto coming off a loss (walking into another one) hadn't fought for 18 months, had his power pellets taken away? Come on mate. He lost THREE in a row. A boxing contest against Guerrero, a slug fest against Jesús, and a gut check vs Ortiz... who loses a gut check against Ortiz?!!
As for Aydin... well, I guess if you give points for floating about a division, never challenging for anything... then sure. I can see where you're coming from

I didn't start anything... I didn't even reply to you. Look back. I've been arguing with Truss and Hammer the entire time. You're not worth my time as you eventually try reach a compromise with some "I respect that comment, they were both X and Y, let's all eat some unicorn" bull.
There is a foe button on the board. Foe me, I'll do the same in kind. And then we'll stay out of each other's paths... Seems easy enough

Berto should fight Ortiz again. That was a great scrap. The winner might even get a shot at Mayweather.

A win over any version of Berto is more relevant than a win over the garbage Provodnikov Raf, as for Aydin he's better than anybody else that Algieri has beaten.

How so? Berto has been carp since he got caught with his hand in the pharmacy jar. There's simply no way losing to a guy Like Karass means you're still a decent win... otherwise guys like Alfonso Gomez are in fact great fighters because they've actually managed to beat Karass..

Algieri was exposed, but he earned his shot. He can drop back to 140lbs and see what pans out. No doubt he's very tough. If all else fails he's still got his 3 degrees to fall back on.

Re: Pacquiao v Algeri LIVE
Moving the discussion onwards......Vasyl Lomachenko Scarily Good!!
Could sit and watch him box all day long. Everything he does just looks so clinical; whether he can appeal to the casual, especially in America where I feel his nationality will hinder the crowd he can draw, he most certainly will be the next P4P No 1 in terms of boxing record/ability alone.
I'd like to see him rematch Salido at some point just to set that record straight. Funnily enough, was brilliant to see the difference between a man who hurt his hand yet wanted it still and a man who didn't...yes Clev I'm talking about you!!
A showdown with Walters next summer looks a dead cert now and it's a big call but I think Lomachenko will handily beat him.

It would be interesting to see the outcome of Algieri Maidana, I don't actually see Maidana as that far ahead.
And to add, if he performs with the tenacity he did tonight I think Manny can potentially walk Floyd down. Just depends if Floyd can put up with 12 rounds of sustained pressure.

Wouldn't be difficult given the usual smokescreen TMT push out whenever someone signs to fight Floyd. Mysterious unjustifiable rankings boosts etc......... (yes, I'm looking at you RG).

Is it really?
Aydin is a tune-up and meaningless bout and Berto was a Lacey-esque hype job. Not saying Algieri was a better oppo than RG, would back that RG to beat him, but RG had accomplished little to nothing at WW and his career and standing were based off his 135 CV. He was not a great 147 oppo and was basically made for Floyd.

Can't get excited about Pac's oppo or the result really.
Slightly interesting challenge given the size and reach difference, but was always a fairly inevitable win. Chris earnt his shot though, that can be said of him at least.
Don't see Pac challenging Floyd particularly though. Speed down, power down, output looked down also (though I haven't checked punch stats). Nothing like the fighter of 08/09.
