Tonight's action Empty Tonight's action

Post by 88Chris05 Fri 22 May 2015, 8:34 pm

Anyone watching? Drozd has just stopped Janik in nine to retain his WBC Cruiserweight title. Janik a little overmatched but Drozd was impressive with the crunching body shots.

I'm not happy, mind you. Had him down to win it in the eighth and he could have got Janik out of there in that round easily if he'd stepped on the gas. And that sod Ian John-Lewis couldn't even be bothered to throw in one of his legendary premature stoppages for me, either. The one time, Ian. The one time.

Charr decisioned Leapai too in what I can only presume was an awful fight.

Caught the end of the Drozd fight and he did look quite good but none of the current lot at Cruiserweight have ever really wowed me, I can never get it out my head that their just not good enough to compete at Heavyweight.

Woah, first round TKO for Povetkin. Caught Perez with a really sharp counter right which had Perez wobbling and it was all over from that point on essentially.

They were nice shots by Povetkin but they didn't look like the kind of shots to be levelling a ranked Heavyweight. Horrendous result for Perez but Povetkin looked sharp.....For the one minute or so it lasted!

Ive said it before but the top heavyweights are still good fighters its just that Klitschko is somewhere between the 'Elite' and 'the great but not legend' albeit the strength in depth is not what it was. This was the difference between a good heavyweight and an average one.

Wilder next for Povetkin. Might have just gotten a little bit intriguing

I don't mind doing that one, Hampo, but won't be able to get it over to you until Sunday. If you need it before then maybe Derbymanc is your man. Let me know.

Did Perez's alleged new attitude to training and conditioning help him out with his big chance against Povetkin. The answer is no as he walked into a straight right and then got absolutley starched as he was hit by a beautiful right hook. The ref for some unknown reason allowed him to get up off the deck despite the fact he looked completely out of it and didn't even raise his gloves. A glancing shot knocked him off his feet again and the ref stopped the bout.
Who knows what's next for Perez but Povetkin once again shows he does posess talent and would be a good step for any of the current Heavyweight crop looking for a challenge before taking on the main man Wlad.

But have to give Povetkin a lot of credit though, Jennings only scraped past him, that was a destruction.

Three highlight reel knockouts on the bounce for Povetkin. Wlad's WBC mandatory. Give him a shot in a rematch?

With wrestling not allowed? Same result but may actually be watchable.

Poorly constructed last message.

Povetkin has three Highlight Reel knockouts on the spin. If he beats Wilder, give him a shot in a rematch?

Heavyweight isn't the worst division in boxing.

Good win for Povetkin. Needs another title shot!

Good win for Povetkin. The wilder fight will be interesting.

What now for Perez?

Maybe the same result, John. Just think if the wrestling is better penalised, Povetkin may fight at too great a pace for a 40-year old. Probably exhausts Wlad on his way to 15 point defeat

Think Wlad Kos him to be honest. He's starting to put oomph into his punches again maybe because he's getting old or maybe because he wants one big payday against wilder before retirement. I don't really know but I suspect if he's forced to fight Povetkin is flattened

Jennings was moving away. We all assumed he would flatten Jennings but he proved a little more resilient and made Wlad miss. Povetkin moves forward and throws often leaving openings for Wlad hook and cross.

Oh of course, Wlad easily beats Povetkin. We need someone quick who has power and similarish, he's just never had to fight anyone near that.

O'Sullivan was a bit wild, neglected his jab but got an easy knockout in the second, makes you realise how tough Saunders has had it in his first 21 fights.
