Kyrgios gifts the first set 7-5 with 3 doubles in one game. A lot of big matches starting up

Just a tad too erratic from Kyrgios. Still I wouldn't rule him out yet.

The depth in the mens field is pretty good right now

Gasquet takes the first set against Dimitrov - not sure that would count as a shock given that Grigor's form this year has been pretty patchy (he's 17th in the race, a couple of spots behind Gasquet).

And on top of that, Grigor has yet to beat Richard..

Meanwhile, Gasquet broke Dimi in set 2 (and Anderson broke Mayer in hte first set)

Oh and Kyrgios leads the TB to get set 3. Kyrgios 5-7 7-5 7-6(3) Raonic

To me it seems clear that Kyrgios just has the better all-round game. Raonic edges it for serve but his return is not near the standard that Kyrgios has. Offer me a bet on which of these two is most likely to win a slam and my money would go on Kyrgios.

Not a given... Out of Top 15 if:
Isner beats Cilic
or
Monfils beats Simon
or
either one of those makes it to SF: Gasquet, Troicki, Mayer, Tomic, RBA, Seppi, Ivo
or some even deeper stuff by lower ranked players.

So he's should keep top 16 at worst, like Nadal should keep top 10 and top 8: only big upsets can break it.

Kyrgios beats Raonic in four sets. Goffin through in straight sets as is Gasquet beating Dimitrov comfortably. Gasquet plays Kyrgios in the 4th Round.

Rasheeds been great for him. Got him physically fit. Maybe though he's taken dimi as far as he can, needs a coach to bring out the variety and aggression in him

Brown was inside the baseline 97% of the time!!!

Don't know how much of the match you saw, but Brown won 71 of 99 points serving and volleying. You could almost think it was the 90s. There was a hawkeye graphic put up after I think 3 sets that showed Brown's 3rd shot hit point (i.e. after he serves, Rafa returns). At that stage there was not one shot played within 3m of the baseline, with the majority being at or just in front of the service line.

While I may not want to see a return to the server-fests of the Sampras v Ivanisevic years, it was good fun to see a player being so committed to coming forwards and to pushing Nadal out of his behind the baseline comfort zone.

Well of course it is! Nothing can be excellent any more, it has to leap straight to superlative; it can't be big, or even bigger. No, it must be biggest.

By the way, Djokovic's serve is really good.

d_h, I've only seen short highlights of Brown but I could tell it was rather "retro" in its nature!

71 of 99 points is incredible. I wonder if the likes of Novak and Andy will play that many in the whole tournament!

I just wonder if the court conditions really are too slow for serve volleying here? I mean Dustin Brown pulled it off by sticking rigidly and robustly to the game plan. I just wonder if other players with a big enough serve should try using it more as well. They may find it to be more successful than they think.

Very disappointing from Dimi. He's not been in great form this season and appeared not to know the right way to play against Gasquet.
For me, there were too many "hollywood" shots from the Bulgarian - going for broke when he should have rallied.
They say it's harder for the really talented - and Dimi is really talented - to get back into form as they have so many shots and styles. The golden retrievers, the scrappers, the battlers - they only know one way to play and they just work like mad during a bad spell until they come out of it. But whither Dimi (and should he ditch Sharapova)?

He was aided by an opponent returning like it was a clay court, he wouldnt get away with that against other guys, especially the big guns
