Just a question given the speculation about Marvin Lewis' situation, and likely others to follow. Lewis has delivered playoff appearances pretty consistently and went into this weekend with a backup QB who's never played in the playoffs. Now he lost a close game (albeit one that was theirs to lose), the doubters are out and many saying its his last game as Cincy HC.

Last week Lovie Smith gets the boot, despite being clearly in the middle of a rebuild of the Buccs roster, and the list goes on.

Is there too much willingness to put coaches on a short chain and yank them if they don't deliver immediately? Is the media circus putting pressure on owners and coaches to deliver ahead of schedule?

As a Skins fan I've seen too much short term mentality regards the HC position. I'd like to see organisations giving guys a bit more rope than 1-2 years.

Read a good point about Lewis, went something like :

The guy has gone 0-6 in the playoffs with close to his full team, now he loses one that closely with the backup QB because of a players idiotic decision, and only now you want to fire him?

Personally, I think we made 6-10 this year despite Lovie, not because of him. Jason Licht has done a cracking job since taking over and the offense is humming under Dirk Koetter (who, by all accounts will be our new HC).

Lovie's defence sucked and the team was ill-disciplined.

Just a thought, but ill disciplined teams seem to echo the age/tenure of their coaches. Maybe a little over familiarity and too relaxed attitude in the organisation are wholly or partly to blame? Tomlin has been in Pittsburgh for ages - bad discipline. Giants were poor in discipline and execution at times - Coughlin finally steps down.

Just as maybe teams are too eager to fire short tenure coaches, are maybe some teams too reticent to fire an entrenched coach? Was argued that both the Giants and Bengals should have looked for a new coach last offseason, for different reasons.
