Rain delay. Who does it help? I say Querrey.

I dunno.  I think he would have held.  Whereas on return from the rain delay, who knows.

Of course, I still expect him to hold and ultimately win one way or another, but on the margins I think it cannot be good to come back after a delay knowing you must hold.

I think it could help Screech more. He's reeling again having just been broken and has to serve to stay in the match. For that one game alone it would have been advantageous for Q. In the long run if it goes to a tie break it may help Q because Screech may lose some more rhythm.

Anyway, at least I am getting some entertainment out of this match.  I certainly hope Nole loses, but even if he wins, at least there will have been some tense moments.  I would have hated watching a triple breadstick procession today.

Yes, absolutely. Rubbish quality match but great entertainment - would be even better if Screech lost.

It is an odd set though.  We are at 5:6 with Nole not that far from possibly going out, yet Querrey has not been playing well at all this set.  Unforced errors galore, left right and center.  The only thing that has improved for him as the set has progressed is his 1st serve.  He earned enough free points to keep the set close.

But mainly, the set has been about how poor Nole has been.  It is very rare to see him play as badly as he is playing right now.

Why can't these numbskulls realise that if you have a roof YOU USE IT. Oh, it's an outdoor tournament, they say. Yes, it is. But, hey, if you haven't noticed, there are showers about. This Murray match could have been played all the way thru with no breaks (for the weather, anyway).

It looks like Dimitrov is on his way out yet again.  Johnson, with two breaks, will be serving for the match at 5:2 in the fourth set.

Federer will play the winner of that match.

Cilic or Nishi for Fed in QF.  That actually I think is a relatively difficult QF.

I would expect him to win his next match (Johnson or Dimi) but quite possibly lose in the QF.  The way he played in Stuttgart and Halle, and also earlier here, his level was I think below what would be needed to beat Cilic or Nishi.  Fed is Fed, so you never know, but my hunch would be he will not make the SF this year.

Dimitrov picard

Can't beat a guy who doesn't have a BH.

How does a guy get into the top 100 without a BH in this day and age?

Ive been dabbling in pennies on the old betting. A lesser speckled Federer in the final looks like its worth 50p to me. Nish or Cilic is tough, but neither are at their height

First time since 2003 that #1 seed went out this early at Wimbledon (Hewitt R1)

And first time since 2004 that it happened at any slam (RG, Federer, R3)

Mahut next, and then probably Raonic or Goffin.

I do not think he wins more than one more match at most, but he may have a big letdown and just disappear the next round.

Federer's overall level has been way below that needed to beat a big name, indeed any of the top 20 guys.

I think this Wimbledon will prove to be just another small step in a gradual comeback campaign ; although to what extent he will ever 'come back' is very questionable.

No worries, SB. I just feel sad for SoCal and HMM. They had their hopes pinned on a CYGS. Laver commented on this (and rightly so), to stay focussed on the task at hand, rather than on the ultimate reward.
