2016-17 season - Page 4 Empty 2016-17 season

Post by Jermaine2015 Wed 26 Oct 2016, 9:18 pm

First topic message reminder :

Opening night results:

Cleveland Cavaliers 117-88 New York Knicks
Portland Trail Blazers 113-104 Utah Jazz
Golden State Warriors 100-129 San Antonio Spurs

The Warriors 'Super team' lacked cohesion as the Spurs ripped them apart. Kevin Durrant scored 27 on debut, but Kawhi Leonard silenced the Oracle Arena with a career best 35 point game.

I watched the game. LeBron was getting taken to school by Leonard until he left. The Spurs totally controlled the game from start to finish.

Celtics now have control of the East.

The Warriors have won seven in a row now, though and they're still firmly in control in the West.

I'm gonna go Warriors. I think it's pretty clear that whatever weaknesses people thought they saw during that road trip where they dropped games was probably just a matter of them losing a huge part of their offence and not having enough time to adjust, as everyday was probably either a game day or a travel day. I mean, the Dubs have the #1 offence and defence in the NBA.

That said, I don't know if they will win a game this week. The NBA in all their wisdom has somehow conspired to make both away trips to San Antonio during the second half of a back to back. The Wizards are no joke, and, well we all know what James Harden can do.

I like the idea of James Harden, but watching the Rockets play is a god-awful experience. Foul foul foul.

Anyway, they probably won't win the West now. Can't beat a Warriors side with a relatively off Curry and no KD, plus having 20 more FT attempts. No chance. Reckon the Spurs beat the Warriors later tonight, which will keep them interested, but I don't think they'll catch them for #1. Also, supposedly have an update on KD due today. Will be interesting

Warriors rallied after being blitzed by the Spurs in the opening quarter. Faced with a 22 point deficit, the Chef dropped 29pts to all but seal the West. Warriors 9 straight victories...maybe we don't need KD...

It was a great performance, but I'm, still going Harden. Harden is winning, and before people get on about him having a better team, don't forget that a season ago Westbrook had KD and he also only managed third seed, so we know that Westbrook can't do more with more

What's really scary is that they are actually offensively worse off then they were with KD there, they've just locked in so hard defensively that they are suffocating teams. As they so often say, defence is about effort and KD isn't a worse defender than McCaw or Barnes, so logic dictates that they may in fact become even more suffocating defensively when he comes back while being offensively even stronger... I wouldn't go so far as to replicate the old Malone "fo, fo, fo" prediction, but it's gonna be awfully hard to even take a game off these guys if they lock in these play offs.

Chef Curry was coking last night. 42pts, 9x3pts and 8 assists. 11 straight wins. It's not possible to be a better side with KD, but Curry's genius is more evident when KD isn't playing.

Washington (4) v Atlanta (5)

Western Conference:

Golden State (1) v Portland (8)
San Antonio (2) v Memphis (7)

Just John wrote:Eastern Conference (brackets denote regular season final standings):

Boston (1) v Chicago (8) Boston upset after Isaiah chose to play having lost his sister the day before. Tough deal. Plus I think in Wade, Butler and Rondo, the Bulls have the best three players in this match up. Can see Bulls in 6 from here
Cleveland (2) v Indiana (7) This went down to one point. Cavs won after Miles fluffed the game winner. Against arguably the worst team in the entire draw. The Cavs are struggling to find that switch they would apparently just switch on. Reckon they will need 6 to win this
Toronto (3) v Milwaukee (6) The Greek Freak continues to amaze. Toronto lost the first game of a series again. Like clockwork really. Still have the Raptors in say, 6
Washington (4) v Atlanta (5) Only game I didn't watch but the Wizards won. Beal and Wall are bad somebodies, back them to win this in five)

Western Conference:

Golden State (1) v Portland (8) Very entertaining first three quarters but the class of the Warriors told. To lose by double digits when your best two players go absolutely nuclear, and only one of the Warriors three headed monsters really plays well (KD) will be rather demoralising. Thought Warriors in four. Still think Warriors in four.
San Antonio (2) v Memphis (7) After a reasonably close first quarters, the Spurs completely shut the Grizzlies down. The Grizzlies aren't fully fit and they need to be to stand a chance here. Spurs 5
Houston (3) v Oklahoma City (6) Westbrook. Lol. Maybe if he stops leaving his man to go box in for the rebound and actually challenges the shooter, they'll find a way top contest the shots. Otherwise... Rockets in 5, 6 at the most. Talk about stat padding
Los Angeles Clippers (4) v Utah (5) the Clippers lost on a final possession, Crawford couldn't guard. Blake went quiet in the fourth. I'd back the Jazz to win from here, but much depends on the fitness of Rudy Gobert. I'll go Clippers in 7

Brutal for Rudy Gobert, to get injured on the first possession of the game like that.

Cavs were very lucky to escape with the W, that should have been Paul George's ball every time.

Raptors were putrid in game 1, as usual.

So round two began yesterday. Since I called 6/8 correct (technically I actually called 7/8 correct, since I said the Jazz would win if Gobert was fit), I'm gonna give the semi finals ago

Eastern conference
Wizards vs Celtics - I think Beal and Wall are the two best players in this series. But Boston has the better team. I think the Wizards line up better against the Cavs, so I hope they win, but I'll go Boston in 6.

Raptors vs Cavs If the Raptors play as well as they possibly can, and the Cavs are only, say 85%, or the Cavs are 100% but Lebron is 80%, I think we could see an upset here. Cavs in 6.

Western conference

Spurs vs Rockets This could be a goodie. I think the rockets have the artillery to blow the spurs out once or twice. Gonna go Rockets in 6 because I think they have the best players on paper, and while basketball seasons aren't won on paper. Playoffs are won by the best players.

Warriors vs Jazz Warriors in four. Jazz could win a game, but I think they'll be iced

Would love to see the Raps cause an upset but I don't think it'll happen. Cleveland owns Toronto.

Gotta think the Celtics will win in 5 or 6 against Washington.

I honestly think Houston will take the series vs San Antonio.

And the Warriors should pump the Jazz, sadly. I like Utah's team though.
