Good read, even if I can't be bothered to get a US urban dictionary to understand all the references.

I have vague memories of rumours/allegations it was archie moore (part of team foreman) that was behind the hookers and charlie set-up for cooper.

Gotta love boxing

Cheers Haz, like you I remember this fight like it was yesterday. Great times. Cooper is involved in one my of favourite fights of all time in the humdinger with Moorer for the WBO strap.

Ray Mercer fight was a corker, too.

Do you think Cooper could have pulled it off had Mills Lane not given him a standing eight?

Tough one Haz - Lane certainly saved Holyfields bacon - knowing what Evander is he may have weathered the storm as Cooper was getting very excited, loved the fight and Cooper certainly provided better entertainment than what Damiani would have.

Do you think Cooper could've been a dominant Cruiser ?

He was a bit erratic but he'd have been a champ on his best nights.

yep, when he turned up without a nose full of candy he was a handful.

You'd have to watch a lot of heavyweight boxing to watch a better round than holy cooper round 3.

Holy had a great chin, but was susceptible behind the ear!

Holyfield didn't half give him a hammering before the finish. Brutal.

Cheers gents. Hadn't seen this fight before. Round three was truly stunning. At around 1.20 left of that round many refs would have stopped Holyfield.

It was one of those WTF moments where your brain can't quite keep up. Holyfield had a few of those (dropping Bowe in their rubber match etc.).

I remember the Holyfield v Cooper fight and though a big fan of Holyfield I feel he was a tad lucky in that fight. The instructions at the beginning of the fight were "no standing eight count"and what does Mills Lane do as soon as Holyfield was in trouble? give him an standing eight count. He did recover though and the end was pretty brutal. The result though could have been different without that short break.

I presume lane judged the ropes kept him up and therefore treated it as a knockdown rather than a standing 8... although it amounts to the same thing. So it comes down to whether you think lane was right or not, I think he was technically, but no doubt it helped Holyfield.
