Wet setup? Empty Wet setup?

Post by fantantonio Sun 12 Jun 2011, 8:15 am

Who is telling the truth? Whitmarsh who said before Qualy that they had a wet setup or JB who said they didn't have a wet setup after Qualy?

From what I can see from the rear wing angle they have a wetter setup than other teams but why would JB say otherwise unless he's trying to put people off the scent that they will be quicker in the wet, weather permitting obviously.

It's quite a gamble by going for a wet set up. I don't know why they did not split the stratagey. Have on driver on a wet and the other on a dry setup just incase it does not rain. The last thing they need is both drivers scrapping with mercedes and renaults for mediocre points.

I don't believe they've gambled on a fully wet setup, but instead just run a bit more wing than the others. I say this because the McLaren drivers were only 5kph slower than Red Bull and Ferrari in the speed traps, rather than 12-13kph like Hamilton said after qualifying.

I do believe they'll have a good car in the race regardless of the weather, but I remain convinced that even if they ran less wing I don't think they would been any higher than 4th - the Ferrari's are ahead of them here. A wet race will give them an advantage because they did (slightly) compromise their setup in anticipation of rain. I'll guess we'll have to wait and see - weather forecasts suggesting strong chance of rain.

It's been said that a few teams have a better DRS than Mclaren and that Ferrari have a new engine mode for qualifying.

No doubt Mclaren will be more competitive in the race (as ever) but once again they're giving their drivers mountains to climb from the off with their starting positions. They're just not doing a goog enough job in catching RB in qualifying - not even on a so called Mclaren track and its getting damned annoying.

I thought McLaren had qualifying in the bag. But not so. What is bugging me is that they have the pace in the races, but not in qualifying. They seriously need to sort this issue out asap as SteveG says, "they're giving their drivers mountains to climb"

its a wet start possibly safety car start. if alonso or hamilton dont win this a take it from vettel then thats the season over. vettel in the wet being tested is where we will see what hes got. cant wait. also expect some strategy calls from button and brown nosing from brundle throughout. gonna be a interesting start and is it no DRS in the wet???

@John

The link below confirms that wet weather Tyres on your at mean no drs. You put inns set of dry Tyres and you can use it again.

http://m.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/255365/moveable-wings-banned-in-wet-conditions/

I know this link refers to practises and qualifying but it's the same in race conditions!

Hamilton is a total liability. Ruins Webber's race and now Button's. Get rid of him MacLaren he will do you no good.

I don't hate Hamilton. I think he is a total liability who is a danger to other racers. He also has rather over inflated impressionsd about his ability. Button should kick his stupid head in. Webber might join him ! furious

It seems you have serious anger management concerns, if i was you i would calm down and think rationally something you are suggesting Hamilton should do.

The webber lewis incident was a racing indicent. As for the other, im putting the blame on button there. He was looking in his mirrors!

A racing incident... That could of been avoided. Drive through.

Buttons fault? For following the racing line? He was probably trying to spot his braking point and looking at the side of the road, over his mirrors! Lewis knew that gap was going to get smaller. It was a rookie mistake. Again.

Alessandro, Alessandro, when will you learn. We know you love Alonso and hate Hamilton but just because you say something is true it does not make it so.

lol which race was you watching - it was no where near a braking zone you fool! Sure the gap was going to close but button knew he was there and should have given him room

Lewis had the line on the inside to turn one, just happened to oversteer a bit and CLIPPED webber.

How was it a Rookie mistake, according to your every error Lewis makes is a rookie mistake where as when another driver makes a mistake, you dont jump on it.

Please its clear you dont like Hamilton, it would be boring if everyone liked the same drivers. But to be so biased with your opinions begs belief

Both mistakes were avoidable.

Lewis seems to have a rookie over confidence that the mature drivers have grown out of. You can't win the race in the first lap. You must pace yourself for the long haul.

Vettel earned the name 'crash kid' after the collision with webber last year. Will Lewis inherit this name now?

Kobayashi to jump Vettel at the start! Come on Kobi!

I think there should be more consideration to how F1 racing happens in the wet i.e. mandatory super wet tyres or something (even if it does make the cars a lot slower). It would save all this nonsense. I mean Brundle et al are a good bunch of commentators but looking at a red shouldered blackbird and the celebs that head to F1 is not what I want to do. I also think the safety car getting involved so much like in Monaco and here is ruining the spectacle. The wet weather use to be great and now it is just causes a train led by the safety car. Jeesh! Sorry to rant on my first post but.......

Allesandro i think you'll find all accidents on track are avoidable to an extent.

Oh look rookie mistake from Alonso or was it rookie mistake by Jenson. Same situation Lewis and webber was in. Watch for the bias opinion now...

Ferrari are the Blatter of F1?

Why? Are they taking bribes to ensure races are held at different events around the world? Or are they pushing for Pay Per View for all their free to air broadcasts? Please help me out here, as like you, I can only speculate on what you mean.

I think he is hinting at corruption? Like when the FIA, especially during the Schumacher years turned a blind eye to his numerous indiscretions but came down heavy on other teams for far lesser incidents.
