Prem reserve sides in Championship

Well it looks like the powers that be are considering changing the Championship.

They are proposing allowing half the league to be Premiership reserve teams, with the other half made up of aspirational Championship sides.

Whats your thoughts?

I thought thats what the A league was for?

The RFU don't want to fund a second tier. This is their way of pulling the ladder up and removing relegation permanently.

Awful idea, hate it. Does little to encourage competition in the Prem, the fear of relegation and a rebuilding season were often good for Prem clubs.

I think the main idea of making the 'A' league the second tier will do irreparable damage. The lack of game time for up and coming players, rehabbing players, and players playing out the string helps build the player pool. And, as a Saints fan, going to the Gardens for 10 quid on a Monday evening was great fun. Rugby needs both the 'A' league/teams/competition as well as the Championship, even with the role played by the Championship still not entirely clear. And where to the Championship players go? Down another level? Hopefully this is another one of those trial balloons which is dropped as soon as mentioned.

Not sure relegation comes into it, to be fair.

Totally agree...get the A league back up and running as a "reserve & academy" team competition...and let the Championship be and it will be another route for players to come through.

Saw it and thought meh. What counts as aspirational here? Assuming Donny Knights would be demoted under this as they don't want promotion?
