The championship starts this weekwnd, Super League in 2 weeks. The Nrl &League 1 at some point.
Plus there's an old,new trophey as the world club champions is back (St Helens v Penrith in Australia).

Other questions, can St Helens make it 4 in a row? Who will challenge, will Salford continue there fantastic last few years, will either of the Hull teams actually wake up (this applies to Warrington). After there excellent season last year, is Huddersfield signing so many players going to help.

In the championship.
Can Keighley do a Barrow and challenge after Promotion? Can Barrow continue from last year, will this be the year that Bradford or Widnes wake up and make a play off charge. Will Batley continue on from last Season, and if not them who will be the unexpected package.

League 1, gueinuely looks a very open league.

Nrl - Can Penrith do 3 in a row.

But as always with Rugby League, the biggest question? Just what format will the league be next year?

One of two interesting results yesterday, Widnes winning at York being the one that raised my eyebrows.

Fev are clearly going to hard to beat followed by Toulouse and perhaps Fax. After that take your pick, IMO it will come down to injuries, squad depth and of course attitude (very much lacking at Bradford last year).

Rest of this weekend's results.

There where 2 home wins opening weekend. Bradford starting strongly with a 24 - 8 win against whitehaven. And Halifax continuing on from last year, beating Sheffield 26-18. Batley also continued last years foem, winning at London Broncos 30-20, Widnes win at York 19-12, and Newcastle win at Swinton 18-6.
Tonight saw Featherstone go to Keighley and crush them 50-0.

Think attitude is the top one Beast, followed by Luck in injuries. But agree about Featherstone.

Again some very interesting Championship results;

Barrow 16 Sheffield 36

Batley 16 - Swinton 30

Whitehaven 16 - London 20

Widnes 26 - Keighley 18

Featherstone 46 - Halifax 22

Very surprised to see Batley losing at home to Swinton, Sheffield beating Barrow away another eye opener.

York play Bradford on Monday night

York win 32-16.

The Swinton result is a suprise, and a big one as an early win for a promoted team always good. Whitehaven and keighley and Barrow need to get going. Featherstone and Touliouse cruising at the moment.

This week sees super league start with Warrington/Leeds on thursday. C4 have the Hull KR/Wigan game, and also the world club challenge between penrith and St Helens at 7am.

This week's results. Which saw both super league and league 1 start.

In SL.
Thursdays game saw a fairly comfertable win for Warrington v Leeds 42-10. Fridays games, Leigh after there promotion were beaten by Salford at home 20-10. Tom Johnstone scored a hat trick on his debut for Catalan, at his old club Wakefield in a 38-24 win. On saturday, Hull KR put in a good performance against an out of sorts Wigan to win 27-18. And on Sunday, Hull Fc held off a valient comeback after a storming 1st half and building up a 32-6 lead, to beat Castleford 32-30.

In the championship.
On friday, Sheffield put in a great performance to beat Batley 36-0. Saturday saw Toulouse continue there great start by beating York 36-0. On Sunday the promoted sides took center stage in my opinion. Keighley got there 1st win against Newcastle 44-24. And Swinton got there 2nd beating Barrow 20-18. Featherstone stay top after demolishing Whitehaven 76-4. Bradford got a good gritty win v Widnes 14-12. And Halifax beat London Broncos 26-18.

In League 1.
Doncaster got a good win v Hunslet 18-16. Midland put Cornwall to the sword winning 40-6. Dewsbury (who aare favourites for the division), won at North Wales 38-18. And Workington won at London Skolars 58-16.

But the reult of this weekend was in Australia. Where St Helens won the world club challenge title with an outstanding performance beating Penrith 13-12.

Interesting results Thursday/Friday/Saturday

KR win at Salford. Very solid start for KR, home win v Wigan and now this.

Warrington winning at Huddersfield is a great result for Wire who are 2 from 2

Wigan hammer Wakefield 60 - 0. Having seen the highlights Wakefield simply cannot defend like that, otherwise I will be a very long summer

Today;

Bradford shock Toulouse 28 - 18 at Odsal. The visitors were 8 - 18 up but seemingly lost the plot. I listened on the radio, it was hard to keep up with multiple flare ups and sin bins.

Agree about esrly fixtures.

Rovers win on the back of a good 2nd half (24-10), was big especially as Leigh this weekend. Warrington looking like they could be challenging. Wakefield look to be in big trouble already. Catalans beat Leigh 14-6, and St Helens win at Castleford 24-6, the other SL results this weekend.

In the championship.
Like Beast mentions, a fantastic result for Bradford. Especially as the teams around them continue to do well. Sheffield ot a 1 point win at London Broncos 21-20. Batley return to winning ways beatinh Keighley 28-23. Featherstone continue there charge beating Newcastle 56-6 ( there points difference is 196 after 4 games). Whitehaven get there 1st wwin as they beat Swinton 20-4. And Barrow continue there terrible start losing at York 28-14.

In the challenge cup rd2.
Massive congratulations to amateur club Rochdale Mayfield who won at Cornwall 20-14. They are joined in the next rd by Amatuers Wath Brow, Stanningley, Hunslet ARLFC, West Bowling, Leigh Miners Rangers, Orrell St James, York Acorn, Thatto Heath, Siddal, West Warriors & Westgate common. And from League 1 Dewsbury, Doncaster, Midlands, Hunslet, North Wales, Rochdale & Workington.

So by yesterday all this weeks SL games had been completed.

Thursday's game saw Warrington continue there excellent start to the season, beating Salford 36-20.
All other games were on fri.
Going into this rd, 2nd placed Hull KR lost at home to Leigh in the very last seconds 30-25. This was Leigh's 1st win after promotion, and to e fair they deserved it. Catalans continued there unbeaten start, whilst ending Hull FC's by a dominate 38-6 win. Castleford (who i thought were going to do well), continued there wretched start losing 36-0 to Wigan at home (Wigans last 2 games have sern them score 96, and concede 0). And Wakefield lose at home to Huddersfield 8-0.

With Featherstone playing tonight (v Bradford at home). The rest of the championship had a chance to pull back some points.
Toulouse certainly took advantage, stuffing Whitehaven at home 72-10. Sheffield continue there good start, convincingly beating Widnes at home 42-12. In the NRL.
The Dolphins won there 1st ever game, Beating Sydney Roosters 28-18. Last years winners Penrith lost at home to Brisbane 13-12. New Zealand Warriors won at home against Newcastle 20-12. Manly had a big win v Canrterbury 31-6. North Queensland won a tight affair v Canberra 19-18. South Sydney won at Cronulla 27-18, and Gold Coast won at West Tigers 22-10.

Monday night's game saw Featherstone overcome Bradford 26 - 12. I listened to part on the radio and have seen the highlights, impressed by Bradford need a little bit more with ball in hand but gave Rovers a good game and I don't think that will happen all that often this season.

Injuries to Boden Thompson (Concussion again) and Michael Lawrence worrying for Bradford who have Sheffield on Sunday week after the York Acorns Cup game.

Another very interesting results from the latest set of games. Catalans winning at Wigan lays down another marker that they are potential contenders this season.

Wakefield lose to Leeds and have now not registered a point for 3 games. It must be a long time since that has happened, Trinity always seem to string some results together during a season, this however looks like it may be an uncomfortable summer for them and Chairman Michael Carter has announced he step down in the next few months.

Challenge Cup Weekend, some really encouraging performances from the Community sides but IMO the result of the weekend was Halifax winning at Featherstone. Good luck to them, please don't draw Bradford at home in the next round.

Good wins last night for Warrington battering Castleford 38 - 0 at the Jungle, Hull KR 34 - 6 at Wakefield and a late try for Wigan overcoming Salford 20 - 16.

Unfortunately at this stage unless very quick improvements are made Wakefield are in real trouble already.

Wigan win at Leigh to bring Leigh's recent run of wins to an end 34-6. Huddersfield get a great win at Salford 26-16. And Wakefield for the 4th time this year (I think), don't score as St Helens win 38-0.

So at the start if April. The play off places in SL are, games in brackets.

Warrington (7) 14 points, Catalans (7) 12 points, Wigan (7) 10 points, St Helens (6) & Hull KR (7) 8 points, and Huddersfield (6) 6 points. With Salford,Leeds & Leigh just outside also on 6 points.
The bottom is Wakefield (7) with 0 points, with Castleford just outside on 2 points.

the championship table is.

in the playoffs.
Featherstone (7) 14 points, Toulouse (7) & Sheffield (7) 10 points, Widnes (7) & Halifax (7) & Bradford (7) 8 points. With Batley just outside also on 8 points.
In the relegation places Newcastle (7) & Barrow (7) with 3 points. Whitehaven and Swinton just outside with 4 points.

league 1 (lots of different number of games due to cup, west Wales dropping out).
Dewsbury are top after playing 4 and having 8 points.
The play off places are currently Doncaster (3) 6 points, Oldham (2) & Hunslet (3) & Workington (3) 4 points, and Cornwall (2) 2 points. Midlands and Rochdale just outside also on 2.

As Beast said, the big result in the challenge cup was Dewsbury beating Widnes. But a big shout out to amateurs Rochdale Mayfield who only lost to Newcastle by 10 points.

rest of this weekends result.

As Beazt put, Castleford got a big win, in what was 2 poor sides. Hull KR ran away with it in the 2nd half against a poor Hull side who have lost 6 in a row. Warrington win in France 20-14 against Catalans in a great game. Leeds beat Huddersfield 18-17. And Salford for the 2nd tine this season won at Leigh this time 22-20.

In the championship, Featherstone just keep winning, chased by Toulouse who beat London Broncos 52-0. Whitehavens big win means they jumped Swinton who lost at home 16-48 to Widnes. Bradford jump Halifax after beating them away last night 26-22. And Keighley get a great win at York 22-10.

In league 1, after Dewsbury keep up there unbeaten start, comes Doncaster who also haven't lost winning at Cornwall 48-16. Oldham stuff near neighbours Rochdale 56-16. And Workington win a tight fought game v North Wales 20-18.

In the NRL.
Penrith win the big game 44-12 against Manly. Melbourne beat the Sydney Roosters 28-8. South Sydney get a big win at Cronulla 50-16. Redcliffe (i think known just as the Dolphins), continue there great debut season with a win at North Queensland 32-22. Another Queensland team Brisbane also lose at home, to Canberra 30-15. Gold Coast win against St George 20-18. And Newcastle beat the New Zealand Warriors 34-24. So not nowing one game (Wests v Parramatta). The NRL table is

Brisbane (6) 10 points, Penrith (5), Melbourne (6), Dolphins (6), New Zealand Warriors (6), Gold Coast (5) & Sydney Roosters (5) all on 8 points. Newcastlre (6) are last place in the play offs on points difference from Manly (5) on 7 points. In last place on 0 points from 5 games is West Tigers.

Thursday night saw Salford overcome Castleford 14 - 6

Last night;

Warrington lose their first game 6 - 13 v Wigan, the visitors in control for large parts.
Hull KR beat Saints 26 - 14 with a convincing second half performance
Leeds beat Hull FC 34 - 10, FC have injuries but appear to be in something of a hole
Huddersfield are perhaps finding their feet beating Catalans 26 - 14

The Table IMO makes interesting reading.

No club games in SL/Championship and only Skolars v Dewsbury in League 1. International weekend with Men & Women v France.

Having seen the squad I was impressed that England have a young squad......until that it is I realised 14 have pulled out. It will be interesting how many play next week. I hope I am wrong but if any are not absolutely genuine this sport is continuing to shoot itself in the foot.

Great news IMO, a three match series v Tonga at the end of the season. Well done to the RLF for getting this done, I am already looking forward to it.

agree about the Tonga series, and with the European cup it was crucial we continued building International RL after the world cup.

Last week saw both the Men and Women win, 64-0 in both games.

Back to SL,
and last night saw Hull FC win again (amazing), as they beat Wigan 14-10.

and tonight i'm going to my 2nd game of the season, Hull KR v Huddersfield. Which looks a close one, all though last time i saw these sides, Rovers didnt show up and lost 25-4, in the semi final.

This weekends results.
SL.

The 2 biggish games are at the top. As Warrington comeback to beat Hull KR 21-14, in what was from all accounts a great game. And in Saturdays c4 game, St Helens beat Salford (who fell apart at the start of the 2nd half) 26-12. Leeds get an excellent win at Wigan, not only coming back from 12-0 but doing it with 12 men. Leigh's beilliant season continues as they win at Huddersfield 30-4. Catalans win at Castleford 46-22. And Wakefield continue there season form by losing again at home to Hull FC 26-6.

In the championship.
Batley are the team of the week, Winning against Widnes on Monday 11-4, then beating Toulouse 17-16 on Saturday. This enables Sheffield who get a big win at Keighley 46-18 to claim 2nd place on there own. But the big game see's London Broncos ease relegation fear, whilst dumping more on Barrow after a 30-16 win. Halifax win big v Whitehaven 60-0. Bradford win an exciting game against Swinton 44-38, Featherstone are still unbeaten after a 30-0 win at Widnes. And York beat Newcastle 26-22.

In League 1.
The big game see's Dewsbury continue there unbeaten record, whilst ending Doncaster's beating them 26-12. Oldham get an excellent win at Workington 28-18. Rochdale get an away win at bottom club London Skolars 28-24. And Cornwall lose at home to Hunslet 10-54.

No games in SL or the championship next week as sl finally join the challenge cup (2 rounds 2 late in my opinion). There is a full league 1 fixture list (possibly the 1st time this season).

in the NRL.
Melbourne get a big win, beating Brisbane by 24-16. New Zealand Warriors also get a big win at Canterbury 24-12. Peneith stuff Sydney Roosters 48-4. South Sydney beat West Tigers 20-0. So thats rd6 of the challenge cup done.

Halifax put up a good defence display at home to St Helens, meeping them to under 30 in a 26-6 defeat. Batley travelled to Hull KR, who put out a strong side and unsurprisingly won fairly easily 50-0. The other championship sides played each other, York beating London Broncos 36-12.

Castleford's dismal season continues as they get knocked out at home by Hull FC 32-8. Wakefield still can't win a game, getting stuffed at home by Leigh 40-12. So this weekend saw rd 13 in SL.

And the result if the rd is without doubt Leigh's excellent win against leaders Warrington 30-12. The game of the rd was at Hull KR, were Wigan came back, and then won in golden point (it was a forward pass) 26-22. The unsuprising reault was in Catalan, were Wakefield continued there not winning a game this season, losing 36-6 (at least they scored). Castleford who.must be grateful for near neighbours Wakefield being sh**, continued there dire form losing at Huddersfield 20-4. Salford continued there exxellent season, winning a tight game 29-22 against Hull FC. And Leeds lost a close one at home to St Helens 13-12.

next weekend its SL turn, as magic weekend from st james prk Newcastle takes place. Sat has the better games i'd suggest.
In the championship rd12, and also summer bash at York.
Barrow got out of the bottom 2, beating Whitehaven 32-16, as Swinton lost 38-6 to Widnes to replace them. Toulouse's poor away form continued as they lost to London Broncos 14-10. Featherstone are still unbeaten after beating York 46-16. Sheffield excellent season continued, as they luckly beat Newcastle 38-32. And Bradford stuff Keighley 42-18.

in League 1 rd10.

After dropping there 1st point of the season last week, Dewsbury got back to winning ways beating London Skolars 52-6, North Wales win agsin in Cornwall 42-10. Midlands got a pasting at home to Oldham 50-16, and Hunslet beat Rochdale 36-18.

in the nrl rd 13.

Saturday's re-cap

At Magic weekend, good result for Salford coming back to beat Hull KR

Catalans aside from switching off for the last 15 minutes hammer Wigan and are top for now at least

Castleford end a barron run beating Leeds, good result for them, horrible for Leeds.

In Championship, Toulouse are back to winning ways edging out Halifax, big win for the French side who looked to be sliding down the table.

on my way back from the Bradford/London Broncos game (Bradford won 32-16).
It was interesting, Bradford when they put it through the hands, and some powerful runs looked excellent. Didn't really do it enough. Defensively good, and some good individuals on the pitch that helped win this game at ease. And scored some lovely tries.
2 of London's were also really well crafted, which was just as well, as other than enthustiastic didn't really offer alot. And i've seen u10 teams with more idea what to do in the opponents last 10, the one time they did something tj
hey got there 3rd try.

The woman's semi finals where good. Saw 2nd half of Leeds/Wigan before our game, good game. Agree, but also who thought Batley/Halifax in the 1895 cup. Should be a good day of eugby league on the 12th.

Thursday night.

Huddersfield beat Hull FC 19 - 12 in a game I saw on TV which was in IMO very average. No lack of hard work but very little creativity from either side perhaps demonstrating why both are towards the bottom of the table. The Giants winning try coming from a smart pass from Hill to McQueen without a halfback in sight for me summing it up.

Friday Night.

Saints squeeze past Leeds.
Hull KR with no hangover from the Cup semi comfortably beat Castleford

Cracking game in the Championship, Sheffield beating Fax 32 - 30.
