Wigan where by far the best team last year, after solid recruitment can anyone get near them. Will Hull KR & Leigh continue on from last year's decent seasons, will the sleeping giants (yes Hull, Leeds and Warrington this is you) wake up. And who will be the surprise package.

Championship.
This is in my opinion the best league. Genuine competition at the top and for the play off places. Even the bottom could be as tight as last year.

League one.
Unfortunately not as competitive in my opinion, after the drama of the off season, hard to see beyond Oldham doing what Dewsbury did last year and walking away with it. Competing for the play off places could be interesting.

NRL.
Can anyone stop Penrith (who've won 4 grand finals in a row).

And what should be a fascinating and great game of rugby league in the World club game as Wigan face Penrith.

Salford unsurprisingly beat London 34-4.

CHAMPIONSHIP.

The surprise result is Swinton getting a great result at Featherstone to win 42-40. Whitehaven get a 2nd draw of the season away, this time at Doncaster 25 all. Bradford win again, at home to Barrow 36-24. Widnes get a good away win at York 22-18. Meanwhile Sheffield lose again this time at Batley 31-18.

LEAGUE ONE

NorthWales put in a great performance v Oldham, only losing by 1 point 24-25. Keighley win again, this time at Midlands 25-18. Hunslet also continue there recent run, winning at Workington 24-22. And Cornwall win again, at home this time against Newcastle 30-6.

North Queensland get a good away win v Sydney Roosters 18-16.

St Helens get the expected win at London by 52-6.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Widnes put up a great fight before losing 20-18 to Wakefield at home. Bradford get a good away win at Whitehaven 36-18. Batley also get a solid away win at Swinton 20-16. Sheffield at home v Featherstone 18-16, and York hammer Dewsbury away 40-0.

LEAGUE ONE

Rochdale win away at Cornwall 38-14. Oldham get the expected big win at Newcastle 60-6, North Wales win an exciting match v Workington 34-32. And Hunslet continue there recent form beating Midlands 25-18.

NRL

Melbourne stay top after winning in New Zealand 38-24.Cronulla lose at home to Dolphins 30-28. Allowing Penrith who won in Newcastle 26-18, to go 2nd. Brisbane lose at South Sydney 22-12, and with West Tigers also winning 18-10 against Gold Coast. Gold Coast are now bottom. Manly beat St George 30-14, North queensland win at Canberra 34-16, and Parramatta lose again, this time to Sydney roosters 28-18.

I don't think it is a co-incidence that Fev's relatively poor run comes at a time when the club have faced winding up petitions, this despite signing Dec Patton on a rest of the season deal.

On my way home after being in York to watch the NCL premier game between Heworth v Weat Hull (new ground for me). Weat Hull were very good, scored some great tries, defensively good, and were just far to good for Heworth. Making yards all the way through and won 44-4.

Batley probably get the result of the day, winning at Widnes 24-16. Wakefield continue there winning season getting a good 36-0 win at Barrow. Bradford also continue there recent form winning at Dewsbury 38-12. The only home win saw Halifax comeback and beat Whitehaven 38-18. Sheffield win at York 18-10.

LEAGUE ONE

Cornwall so nearly get another win losing to North Wales 16-10. Oldham and Keighley both win. Oldham with perhaps the better result, beating Hunslet 30-6. Whilst Keighley won at Workington 37-18. Midlands won at Newcastle 44-10.

Hull KR fight back from 14-0 down against Catalans to take it to extra time. Before succumbing to a drop goal as Catalans win 15-14.
In the other game, Leeds are surprisingly held by London at home, till also getting a drop goal to win 17-16.

Wakefield show the advantages of being full time in beating Batley 34-12.
Featherstone put in there best performance in beating Whitehaven 66_0. York also get a good win beating Barrow 54-12. Swinton get a slightly surprising win 24-12 against Widnes. And Dewsbury are now almost certain of relegation after losing 20-16 at home to Doncaster.

Both sides defence were good. Though due to the rain in the last 24 hours meant it was mainly down the middle. But food defence by both. Though a lack ideas in the 20's helped. Would say both were even. Referee was interesting.
