Par 6s
I occasionally play a course that has 2 par 6's. The first one you drive over water, second shot back over the same lake onto the fairway that leaves you a straight shot onto the green 300yards away. The second one is just a long straight slog to get to the green.
The novelty factor soon wears off when your hitting your 6th shot onto the green.

Re: Par 6s
Never played a par 6, can't really see the point in them and what they bring to a round other than like you say the tedium of still being on the same hole!
But that said i once played a par 8 that was 1000yards long, but that was as part of a charity cross country thing at West Malling (they comnined the 2 courses as one large course) which was a thoroughly enjoyable day until we reached the par , 18th hole and everyone got bored playing the hole but I did ahem manage to get a birdie 7!

Re: Par 6s
Used to play cross country golf as a junior. Start at the first tee and pick, say, the 5th green as a par 7, then 6th tee to 3rd green and so on. Great fun and only doable as a cheeky junior on a quiet summer's evening when the course is empty...

I'm going to Myrtle Beach in October and playing a course that has a par 6. You tee off in South Carolina and hole out in North Carolina (or vice versa). Should be a laugh, never played on before.
Although it seems like I have on many an occasion............

did machrie on islay not used to have a par 8? i'm sure i read somewhere that when it was originally paid out, this was the case but it was changed at some point to a par 4 or 5 because it was essentially daft.

I assume it would be a condor as that is the name that was given to a hole in one on a par 5!

On the first tee at Newmarket you can hit your ball into the next county [ from Suffolk into Cambridge.]

I play every week with a guy who tees off in Dorset and frequently knocks it into Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset and the IOW
