Re: Froch of 2011 v Calzaghe of 2005
I think you've called it more or less bang on the money alma, to be honest. There's little chance of a stoppage either way, but Calzaghe's output, southpaw stance (Froch has admitted he was confused by Dirrell's) and ability to adapt mean that he has a little too much for 'The Cobra.'
Froch has a tendancy to drop his workrate now and then and let the odd round get away from him, which spells disaster against the Welshman. Throw in the fact that Froch simply can't / doesn't care to avoid straight punches, and for the life of me I don't see how he can win. Calzaghe outworks and outsmarts him to a comfortable decision, with your 116-112 a very likely outcome.

Well, Calzaghe beat Kessler, Froch didn't. Calzaghe had the longevity and he was the dominant Super Middle, which Froch hasn't established himself as yet. I'd probably pick Calzaghe now, Froch if he beats Ward because of his impressive run of opponents.

Cue the..........Calzaghe wins by UD but Froch is a great and brave warrior who fights quality oppostiion all the time, every day of the week, even in his sleep sometimes and if he beats Ward and Bute and Kessler he will have a better legacy than Calzaghe........brigade.

If Froch beats Ward, Bute and a top 175lb fighter he'll have a better legacy and record than Calzaghe. He's never afraid to travel which adds further kudos to his career and gives an extra nod of approval over the weights top tier fighters.
There quite simply isn't a comparison between careers as he'd have:
Pascal
Taylor
Dirrell
Abraham
Johnson
Ward
Bute
175lb champ
Kinda beats Lacy, erm, erm, erm, Kessler & Bhop, ya'think?

Oh, and for me Froch takes a 120-108 UD for me.....
In all seriousness he'd have to turn the fight ugly, if he got to dance at his own tune it could be close. I'm going to put splinters in my bottom by sitting on the fence and by calling it a draw.

Regardless of legacy, Calzaghe would win. I much prefer Froch to Calzaghe, but it is about talent and Calzaghe had plenty of that while under achieving for most of his career

As you say, Calzaghe would be the far busier fighter, but I don't think he had the power to knock Froch out, and Jermain Taylor will tell you how dangerous Froch can be if he gets to Round 12 and knows he's behind on the cards. Calzaghe survives a late onslaught to take it by three or four rounds.

Re: Froch of 2011 v Calzaghe of 2005
Don't see why Froch's win over Dirrell gets painted to be so much better than Calzaghe's over, say, Mitchell, Bika or Eubank, to be honest. Thus far he's done little at 168 lb, fought like a rabbit in the headlights against Froch and hasn't even picked up a title, either. Fair enough if he goes on to achieve world honours (and he does have the potential), but I've never understood why that win gets thrown about when people go down the 'Froch has more great wins than Calzaghe' route.

Re: Froch of 2011 v Calzaghe of 2005
I would say that Froch is roughly on the same level as Kessler in terms of ability.
Therefore, I'd imagine it would be similar to the Calzaghe-Kessler fight.
Some close rounds and tight moments, but Calzaghe pulls through to record an entertaining 116-112 UD.

This fight wouldn't be as one sided as the Lacy fight. It would be a shutout though. Calzaghe would win at least 9 of the rounds.

I'm sure someone on here wants to do a list of Froch's best wins vs Calzaghe's come on another comparison is urgently needed!

Re: Froch of 2011 v Calzaghe of 2005
Got to go with the consensus and say much as I would love it to go the other way Calzaghe would win. Would not be a shut out because as Starie and Bika proved if a fighter could make a fight scruffy Joe could get dragged down and often did not let his superiority show in such scruffy affairs and Carl is certainly better than those two. However in 2005 Joe was showing a decent set of whiskers and Carl has not shown he has anything above good power at elite level so whilst Carl would not get humiliated think Calzaghe beats him by about 4 points, clear but no shut out.

Errr i doubt that given that Calzaghe defended his titles over 10 years which is a record. Plus he was undefeated and unified the division with Kessler who was in his prime, a fighter who Froch lost against. For all of Frochs war horse fighting style, he is no where near Calzaghe, but if he unifies against Ward then goes and beats Bute, defends it for a few years, then he may be in the same class, for sure.

Depends how Calzaghe handled the constant heavy shots. I think (like most) Calzaghe would be too busy & probably too quick but no way would Froch go away & i think he would have plenty of success. We've seen Calzaghe get sat down in a few flash knockdowns & i think it may happen here. Would still agree on first appearance that Calzaghe comfortably gets a UD but i think there would be plenty of interesting rnds along the way.

-----------
Don't think they do but Froch would deserve huge respect for doing that.
Think it's gonna be tough night for Froch to beat the man who is "supposed" to win the Super 6. Needs a knockout.

Lennox Lewis - A London born Jamaican who boxed for Canada

Given that most of Calzaghe's defences were against bums it's neither here or there that he made so many of them. I'd pick Calzaghe to win, probably points, but as far as legacies go Froch has more good names in his last five wins than Calzaghe had in his last twenty. I'd be rooting for the Brit, but my money would be on the Italian import.

He fought who was put in front of him to be honest. And he fought a peak Kessler who Froch lost to. Not to mention beating Hopkins who in turn is now a LHW champ after pounding Pascal. So his record isnt really that padded. I agree that Froch has beat some quality opposition however Calzaghe beats Froch via UD. Both good fighters and its good to see Froch getting some recognition finally.

As of yet Froch's "best" wins have not come against a SMW champion. Abraham, Pascal, Dirrell, Johnson and Taylor never won a SMW title between them.
