Older fans...

Last month we saw Booker T, and going back further to the pre-attitude era fans Kevin Nash, return at the Rumble. Then of course there are rumours of Triple H, HBK, Undertaker and Sting around the 21 2 11 vignettes - and The Rock and Stone Cold returning to our screens. Wrestlers who the younger Mattel-buying fans would perhaps be less aware of.

On monday we had the cameras not pulling away from CM Punk's injured nose and focusing on the blood - and some words even naughtier than 'Poopie' from The Rock.

So, now Linda isn't running for Senate, are Vince and the 'E attempting to bring in content to appeal to older fans? Are they more comfortable with content that doesn't sit with the modern 'PG' Era? Or are they small, temporary plugs to satiate the IWC in the leadup to 'Mania? Obviously we won't return to the days of Chairshots willy nilly but has Vince sensed the mood among older fans that Cena and Rey squashing everyone isn't going to convince them to shell out for 13 PPVs a year?

It won't be a full shift away from PG, that's around to stay. But I think it could be a sign that maybe, just maybe WWE are starting to realise that PG doesn't necessarily mean it has to be aimed at 3 year olds.

That's what has bugged me the most about this PG rating, the fact that WWE tend to look at it more as a U rating, hence you get blood being wiped up in the middle of a match and 'Poopie' promos. Hearing a grown man saying 'poopie' is ridiculous, as is him perpetuating the myth that he got fined for saying 'ass'. That means Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin and now the Rock would all have been fined as well. Hell, the Rock must be seriously out of pocket thanks to Monday! :606laugh:

PG is here to stay by the looks of the contract they have with Mattel also.

Sorry guys wasn't suggesting the content won't be PG anymore - wrestling has more or less always been PG but I was suggesting as Y2D2 said that it won't be as 'U' as it has been - blood won't be hidden if it occurs, people won't have to say 'poopie'; and that Vince seems to be trying to appeal to some of the older fans with Booker T, Diesel, Rock and Austin all back and Triple H, Sting and HBK all teased in the vignettes. So do people think this is long term or just in the run up to Mania?
