USO day five fri 2/9/11
First topic message reminder :
Hello
The title says it all...
I'm looking forward to Nalby-Luby.
The Nadull should have a cakewalk against Mahut - unless it goes to five sets and they have a marathon tiebreaker
Roddick-Sock: A battle of the new and old Americans. Also a clash of the big servers
Murray-Hasse: I think this could be tough for Murray if Hasse hits the zone.
Ferrer-Blake: Battle of the golden oldies.
Lots of good matches.

Murray breaks from 0-40 down, Haase rather gifts it in the end, but Murray did so well to get back into it, and suddenly Murray has the momentum

How guys could you doubt that Murray might lose.
If he stays fit he'll win that match. It's all about stamina and we know Murray just had to wait for Haase to tire...which he did eventually.

Massive hold that was for Murray. Haase looks like he's just going to hit it now at every chance.

and Murray once again works his way back into a return game, this time from 15-40 down,, his returning on song, and Haase cracks, an awful drop shot not even reaching the net. Murray leads 3-0 with the double break!

If Haase has a sore back, I'm not too sure that whacking the ball as hard as he can into row Z is the way to treat it, maybe got some frustration out at least though. Murray cruising now

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
Wow... Talk about losing it!
Haas 40-0 down on Murray's service decides that, rather than return a Murray serve right in his hitting zone, he should try and hit the ball out of the stadium!
Murray now 5-0 up and Haas is losing his head big time!

Here we go, 2-2 and a one set shoot out.
Come on Andy, keep the momentum...
JM - Murray been a lot better, wouldn't say amazing. Haas has fallen apart both physically and mentally.

Got to say that the last 2 sets have been like a practice session. Murray deserves credit for sticking in there.

And Murray forces the break with some excellent returning straight away, can Haase come back from this?

Does Petchey really have to commentate in the style of FanZone?

bogbrush - he is working for British TV, and commentating on a British player.
I doubt the Swiss commentators are 100% objective when talking about Federer.

I just prefer commentary; not biased either way, just saying not too much, enlightening us with some insight. Instead from petechey we get screaming fanboy nonsense. They could get it for free from the crowd.

Some British people don't want to listen to cheerleading, even those like myself who want Murray to win the match.
It's actually puerile and demeaning that they think this blather actually counts as informative to viewers.

Murray cruising, some truly spectacular defense in that game, breaking again to lead 3-0. And in the time it takes me to type that he bangs down four aces to move to 4-0

Fair enough. I like the balance personally between Petchy and Fleming, I think Fleming is quite objective and Petchy is - as you say - a fan. To be honest, the reason I don't mind it is because he's merely replicating my desire for him to win, and I'd probably be a bit disappointed if the British didn't show a little bias towards a Brit.

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
I think it's stupid from Murray to try to retrieve so many smashes from Haase like he did a couple of games ago. He has lost slams because of that extra effort he often puts in retrieving trivial balls.
Doesn't he know he is prone to injuries?

I don't believe it, it's not even that Murray's gone off the boil, but Haase is just flinging his racquet at everything and it's going in, remarkable

Well done Murray
Would've preferred 3 sets.
Haase has a lot he can take from that. He had the chances to win the match. Just didn't have enough in the tank.

Murray does it! Or does he? Haase challenges, and it's in! Unbelievable scenes, but Murray then produces a HUGE first serve, and when Haase goes long on the next point it's all over. Well done Murray, great comeback! credit to haase as well for the way he came back in that last set!

lol - How do you figure that out toilet man considering he now possibly has gotten "the bad" match out of the way.
Even Roger has them as you well know!

Phew.....
Unbelievable!
Murray nowhere near his best, we all know that... But everyone has a bad match. He came through it, that's all that matters. Nadal looked awful for a few rounds at the French... It's all about getting through.

If you go back to 2008 he had 2 back to back 5 setters and still made the final.

Based, you, know, on what I watched on the screen. You know, that rubbish.
I didn't know there was a rule that if you play a really bad match that means you're going to play well after that. I think you're falling for commentator cr@p there.

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
actually LK, not to be too pedantic or anything but back in 08 his R2 match against Llodra was in fact a tough four setter, before an epic comeback against Melzer in R3 (when he was two points away from defeat in the third). But yeah, Murray's strong, he'll recover OK from this, and the up-coming match against Lopez shouldn't have too many long rallies in it you think...

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
Murray scrapped through. Scrappy tennis and it was poor in the last 2 sets. Both players served slower. Haase just played into his hands.
As he just said that if he plays like that against Lopez he is going home. He knows he needs to improve dramatically if he is to progress.
Let's hope he doesn't put another performance like that again in this tournament.

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
The best way I can describe Andy's play at times it is like watching him playing in handcuffs like he is restricted. It was like that in the first two sets then he started to play unrestricted stuff. The main thing he won and showed he has lots of bottle to pull through but will need to improve massively if he wants to go deep. However, Andy can be bad one day and wonderful another and I live in hope. Credit to Robin Hasse who played some great shots and is a player on the up (highest ranking position at the mo) and gave Nadal a massive fright as well at Wimbledon.
I am relieved and shows he can still play below par and win through but must improve.

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
of course Murray will be realistic, he knows he was awful for large parts of today's game (the first two sets especially), but hopefully he's got his bad match out of the way, and at least he can take heart from yet another come from behind victory (I make that five times he's come back from 0-2 down - Gasquet twice, Melzer, Troicki and Haase, am I missing any?)
