USO day five fri 2/9/11
First topic message reminder :
Hello
The title says it all...
I'm looking forward to Nalby-Luby.
The Nadull should have a cakewalk against Mahut - unless it goes to five sets and they have a marathon tiebreaker
Roddick-Sock: A battle of the new and old Americans. Also a clash of the big servers
Murray-Hasse: I think this could be tough for Murray if Hasse hits the zone.
Ferrer-Blake: Battle of the golden oldies.
Lots of good matches.

I'm not quite so confident. Murray is looking like his confidence is on the floor. His first serve and his forehand have disappeared. He has turned this scenario around many times in big matches, but look at the times he has failed to turn situations like this around... Against big hitters in slams!
I'm really worried that he might be digging his own grave here.

Murray works a couple of break back points of the back of some decent hitting, but Haase plays a good point, and then Murray misses yet ANOTHER easy mid court forehand, danger averted

Andy looks like going bye bye. Haase has drained all his confidence.

Murray finds a couple of decent forehands, about his first of the the match, and gets on the board in the second set at least

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
suddenly Murray's forehand seems to be working, and he plays easily his best game of the match to break back! where did that come from?

What is Haase playing at????
This is becoming frustrating because both players don't seem to want to take the initiative.

disagree with you there LK, Murray just stepped it up there, cut down on the errors, and if he plays like that he's too good for Haase

Not at all MFC. Haase made some errors. Andy stepped in. He has to raise it more if he is to take this 2nd set.

Murray's shoes look huge, amplified by his ankle supports. Looks like he has moon boots!

Thing is, he berates himself after every error and it is him - not Haase - who has drained himself of all confidence.
He needs to relax to have any chance. If he continues to beat himself up he'll talk himself out of this. Does he not watch his own matches back? A lot of the time he is responsible for his own downfall.
That's better Murray...

don't think I've ever seen as many unforced errors from Murray as he's made in the first two sets here, well over 30 already...

that service game at 2-3 down was just useless, he had all the momentum and just tossed it away, what is going on?

Murray with this performance is not worthy of his number 4 ranking in the world. Pains me to say as a fan. It is a pathetic and hopeless performance. That slapstick FH in the net said it all.

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
and yet another awful forehand gifts Haase the two set lead. I think Murray should try serve and volleying from now on really, as he can't seem to put a forehand in play at all

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
This is utter garbage, Hasse isn't even having to play all that well.
I have no idea what goes on inside his head. Actually, it's probably faulty technique to be honest, especially on the forehand.
Come on, ffs!

This is a laughable performance from Murray so far. Usually I enjoy watching him lose, but it's no fun when it seems like he's not even bothered. Having said that, I would still bet on him to come back and win in five.

Re: USO day five fri 2/9/11
I think Fleming summed up his FH in the first set when said in a open court, he can put it away, but from the baseline just hasn't got the power to hit a clean winner on his FH.

I disagree JM, he's not being too passive here, he's actually pretty much hitting as many winners as Haase, and very few have been counter-punches (like one pass that I can remember), it's the errors that are killing him out there

trouble isn't the serve, it's the rallying. Sure, Haase has taken a few swings at the Murray second serve, but more often than not, he's just got himself into a rally which he's won (usually off a Murray error, which has now reached roughly 40)

Peter Flemming just put it perfectly:

Murray plays a better return game, forces the break, and lets out an animal roar of "COME OOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN!" can he turn this around?

I dunno, commentators go on about him muttering to himself, but if you were n°4 in the world and had played two terrible first sets like he just did, you'd be pretty annoyed at yourself too I think. Is the mood a cause or a consequence of his level of play?

But when he really starts on himself, his game falls apart. If it went the other way, fair enough. But it's counter productive. The other 3 top guys don't do it.
By the way, get these stats... Murray 1st serve pts won 80% - 2nd serve pts won 21%

yeah but like I said I don't get the feeling Haase has destroyd Murray's second serve, more that Murray hasn't been good enough to win the rallies that ensued behind his second serve...

Murray's 2nd serve is chicken feed for the truly talented players, and when i say talented, i mean anyone bar Roddick

Haase suddenly looking a bit weary, Murray steps it up again, and there's the double break, courtesy of a double fault from Haase...

Haase calling for the trainer, not sure what the problem is, he did look tired at the end, but didn't seem to be injured at all?
