Good Morning Tennis Fans

We are now getting to the business end of the tournament. Who is the money on?

Murray v Young
Nadal v Muller
Isner v Simon
Ferrer v Roddick

Well and truly America day.

Murray (or else!!!), Nadal, Simon and Ferrer for my money

looking forward (I think) to the Murray/Young match

Murray's playing well and I don't think Young has the power to get past him, or the patience to duke it out in attritional rallies. Murray in straight sets.

Nadal may drop a set against Muller, but it won't go past 4.

Isner vs Simon is an interesting one. Simon's form can vary wildly between matches, but if he plays well then he might prove too tricky for Isner to handle. I'm gonna say Simon in 4 sets.

Ferrer vs Roddick is another tought one to call. I must admit that I haven't seen either of these two play in this tournament yet, so any prediction would be a guess. Having said that, I would always fancy a good returner and superior baseliner like Ferrer to eventually overcome Roddick. Ferrer in 4 sets, though I wouldn't be surprised if it went to 5.

It is on at 4pm TP so claim the TV rights this afternoon

I think this article is wrong. Nadal can't still be facing unseeded opponents, not at this stage surely?

Donald Young in the 4th round wow, couldn't see that one coming. He beat murray once this year, could this be his coming out party?

I have to agree with BB to a certain extent, is it me or this half of the draw look really soft for murray and nadal?

No it's not you. I thought Murray initially had tricky quarter, but it opened up quite nicely. Djoko and Fed definitely have much denser half and Nadal's quarter was the easiest of all four definitely, whoever had come through there is no one who looked like giving him a real fright until Murray? or possibly Ferrer (though doubt that especially as Ferrer has had his wrist/hand blip)

If Roddick can't beat Ferrer at the USO he should probably start thinking of winding down his career.

I think that it is a slight harsh reflection socal. With his style of play it was always inevitable that as younger talent pushed through, he would slip down the rankings. It is a great achievement in itself that he was a regular feature in the top 10 for nearly 8 years. He might not be a contender at the slams anymore, but there is nothing to stop him being a contender at Masters level events.

Murray in 4 here. Young is playing some strong flashy tennis and might take the first set before the obvious comeback from Dracula

Nadal will have too much defensive skill for Muller, expect a comfortable win with a tiebreak thrown in.

Simon has impressed me with his passive counter punch/court covering ball flatting style and I think Isner will be chasing shadows. Simon in 4

Roddick's play has improved loads since Wimbledon and I am confident he will to the crowd's expectation against the clay courter, Roddick in 3

Heavy Rain in New York as we speak. Looks like today's play will be delayed.

On a bright note we have 4 boys left in the juniors.

Though we didn't have a single girl in the juniors main draw.

In the mixed doubles Leander Paes will face Oudin and Sock who's combined age is still not older than Paes himself.

The weather forecast is heavy rain ALL DAY.

Also likely to rain tomrw and thurs.

Nadal. The strangest incident in the press looms over his performance today. Will he be 100% physically and psychologically fit to play today?

Murray: despite of his ranking, Young is a much improved player that sooner or later will make it into the big stage. He has already beaten Murray once and will be playing with the support of a fiercely partisan home crowd.

Still it does mean we'll get the wonderful sight of some random blokes coming on with towels to mop up the courts at some point...

There's still hope. Djokovic may suffer from Fognini Syndrome if he is forced to go a few days without playing.

Real shame about the rain though, seems wetter in NYC than at Wimbledon these days, roof or no roof. My memory may be playing tricks on me of course.

If you are a Murray fan, they are playing his Semi Final with Nadal from 2008. I wish they would fill these delays with something informative about the event or even highlights from the 80's, 90's.

The USTA has announced that play has been abandond for today or tonight. Bitter blow for Andy and the others waiting today to play as it puts them at a disadvantage to those in the other half of the draw.

This could affect the semi-final order. Depending on how it pans out, they may be forced to play Rafa v Murray (or whoever) second to give them adequate rest after their belated quarter-finals. Depends on the weather tomorrow I guess.

Disagree LK - although some lesser tournaments have moved indoors when it's rained (Nottingham), I don't think a GS should even consider it.

I am very surprised that they abandon play for the day at 13.30pm (US Time). What is that all about, especially when they have courts with floodlights. Very premature I'd say.

Sorry JM they should. You shouldn't rely on the laps of the gods. No self respecting business would do it. It's called contingency. I am not a fan of it, but in fairness to the players, should go indoors.

Weathers supposed to be this way for the next few days aswell, I wouldn't mind having a Monday final actually
Craig, there won't be enough time for all 4 men's matches and the women's matches to get played, so it would be unfair on those who are scheduled to go on last.

But in all honesty it's what's needed.

Well the first set was brilliant, I thought Dolgo missed a trick at 4-2 in the tiebreak, missed a half open court that you should never do, but he made Djoko fight for it didn't he?

After that knackering first set, sadly he lost belief in himself. But he will only improve from this tournament and will hopefully be in the running for a few MS's next season and gradually get into the top 10

I think he needs to tidy that footwork up as his BH seems to take him out of the point when he executes it. Was very unlucky in that first set.

Maybe this year F&D will not play the second semi.
Maybe that is why I bet on Fed at 6 to 1

Why?

I'm sure most tennis fans would much rather see a great final rather than one potentially fresh player vs a player who has played 4 five set matches in 4 days.

Obviously we'll have to see how the weather goes, but it's a large possibility and one that could easily be avoided by declaring a Monday night final now.

Has got to be Federer in his best years...I believe I know the answer btw.
