USO day 12 09/09/11
Hello homies n peeps,
Some contrasting styles to clash today
Murray V Isner - Hopefully Murray wins quickly; not sure I can endure any more of Isner (We got a lifetimes worth at W10). Murray in 3
The Nadull V A-Rod - In previous years this would have been an interesting one but today, I'm not so sure. A-Rod won't have enough steam to stay with The Nadull. The Nadull wins in four.
emancipator - Let there be sunshine.

Re: USO day 12 09/09/11
I fear Isner getting this done in 4. My main doubt about that is that he looks knackered, but if he's ok I do think he may get enough breaks of serve (if Murray has these bad patches) to get through.
Nadal will kill Roddick in 3. It won't even be competitive.

Again, Murray in 3 easily.

Murray in three or four sets. Isner's strength is his serve but Murray's is his reurning so negates Isner's best weapon.
Nadal to win in four sets but could be very interesting if Roddick wins the first set.

I like Isner's game on this surface, the ball bounces much better for him but the problem is he weighs like 250 lbs...Murray will probably outlast the 11 hour man, in 4 sets...
If Roddick wants to win he has to take the first set though, Nadal keeps sneaking out the first set and after that he physically outlasts you..

Off clay, its 4-3 to Nadal so Roddick has a chance but Nadal is much more adept on HC these days...ARod has to play a blinder to win this one.

Roddick should sacrifice a first serve early in the match and aim directly at Rafa's water bottles (and no, that's not a euphemism). It'll be worth it in the long run.

I hope I'm wrong on Murray, I really do, but i have a bad feeling. Trouble with Murray is that he is so inconsistent; he could blow Isner off court in 3.
I am trying, but cannot find an argument for Roddick.

For him beating Nadal, or just his existence in general

I have always said that J S Connors would have those bottles kicked over at the changeover every time. Plus, can you imagine how he'd handle Rafas time issues? He'd be making a massive deal of it with the Umpire!!
Actually, damn it, where is the guy? We need him back, tennis misses that sort of direct action.

Re: USO day 12 09/09/11
This the Guardian's pre-amble to their live coverage. Pretty difficult to disagree with I'd say:
Preamble Who'd be Andy Murray, eh? Anyone with a brain, obviously. What's not to love? He's talented, smart, humble, funny and self-deprecating – genuinely so, rather than those execrable phonies all over Twitter and society who have swallowed their Peep Show boxset. He also has an admirable temper on him and doesn't suffer humans gladly. But Murray is in a pretty unenviable position when it comes to grand slams. If he loses to one of the top three, he's failed; if he loses to someone outside the top three, he's really failed. I suppose he could win the darn thing, but you try beating two of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the space of 72 hours. Or even taking a set off one of them. As my colleague Jacob Steinberg has noted, Murray has the misfortune to be playing in an age when excellence is not enough. You have to be perfect.
If Murray beats the dangerous John Isner today, he will meet Rafael Nadal or Andy Roddick in the last four. He will also have reached the semi-finals of the four grand slams for the first time in a calendar year, a feat that has only ever been achieved by six men. Yet nobody will care about that if the semis are as far as he goes.
In the original they had struck through "Or Andy Roddick"

Murray-Isner has just started.
The weather looks beautiful. Here is the weather forecast for today:

It looks like the schedule should be completed today.

no you're not emancipator
very solid first set from Andy Murray, stepped it up at just the right time to break Isner, and after the first game has been nice and solid on serve, good stuff so far, don't think Isner has enough energy left to come back from that...

Andy winning a set playing solid tennis. I'd agree with Boris in that it was the best set he has played in the tournament so far. I really can't see Andy losing now and hope he can do this in straight sets to preserve energy for the semi.

yeah as thought Isner looks cooked and straight away gets broken to love, nice returning and a good hustle on the point at 0-30, but Isner looks very tired out there...

I think that is just Isner's demeanour really but must be a little fatigued.

Part of it is physical, as he had a long match yesterday. And part of it's mental, as he knows Murray can carry on like this for three more hours, and he can't. Murray looking very strong right now, and I expect him to come through this fairly comfortably...

Isner played as well as he could in the firs set up until he double faulted at 5-5, 30-30. He has not moved well since and this has caused him make more errors.

Important that Andy comes through without a real scrap in three sets as bigger challenges lie ahead.

Murray IS looking focused, he's even getting his challenges right Good hold from Isner from 0-40 down, finding some big serves to keep the set alive...

Isner seems to have got a bit of pop back into his serve at least, now can he pressure Murray on his?

Re: USO day 12 09/09/11
What Murray must not do now is try to retrieve every single shot of Isner as he likes to do against everybody else. That is what cost him a few slams imo. He just needs to secure the break and his serve and save his legs and energy.

I'm hoping Murray will charge through from here, and Nadal will be pushed and taken to 4 or 5 sets.

Isner's serve just about keeping him in it at the moment, still a break down in the second though at 3-4

If Murray gets through, then he still isn't likely to win this event. Federer/Djokovic will be the winner.

Insightful
So I take it you haven't been watching as most posters have commented that the courts are playing slower than clay. But again you would know this had you been watching the tennis during the year.

Murray drops the first point, but then finds a superb running backhand pass down the line, and when Isner starts making a few more errors the second set is his! Isner has never come back from two sets down, and doesn't look like doing it today...

Murray is now up 2 sets to love.
7-5, 6-4.
I am not sure how much Isner has left in the tank.
