Crazy 2011...

I must say this 2011 has so far been one of the crazies in a long time.

If somebody told you this time last year that:

1) Federer will win only 1 250 tournament
2) Murray would bagel Nadal
3) Tsonga would beat Federer from 2 sets down at Wimbledon
4) Nole would win 3 slams, plus 7 other tournaments (incl 5 1000 Masters ones)
5) Williams sisters wouldn't win a single slam


You wouldn't believe it would you?

we've still got a few more tournaments left in the year, dare predict any more "shockers"?

Excellent summary. I anticipate even crazier 2012.





RF winning FO. AM winning AO, Nadal regaining Wimbledon. Some newbie winning USO.

6) Nadal losing 6 on the trott to Nole, including twice on clay.
7) Nole to beat Federer from 2 sets down at teh USO 11
8) Lacko also bagling Nadal
9) Gulbis still being Gulbis
10) Davydenko in free fall but managed another win v Nadal on his way down

Could Argentina winnning DC against Spain IN Cordoba be considered a shocker?

Or Nadal ditching Tony as a coach?

One thing is sure that Murray will win a slam in 2012. It will not be a surprise if he becomes the new no. 1 which is bit far fetched at the moment.

I'll just settle for Murray winning one slam. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed. Hopefully today although it was only a 500 event will give him the confidence to take that step. I know Nadal and Federer only seem to bring their best to slams and the masters finals nowadays so that makes it harder to predict.

How do you see him celebrate?

TBH not sure as the relief and sense of achievement would be so great for him after so many years of effort trying to get there. However that's all hypothetical. He has to win seven games and almost certainly beat at least one (probably two) of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer.

to be honest NITB, I think if Murray does win a slam he'll just sink to his knees and there'll be a few tears shed. Either that or he'll do that crazy leapabout thing we saw after the win against Haase. It'll certainly be an outporing of emotion, and I really hope he gets there...

Djokovic will lose to Federer from 2 sets up at AO, Wimbledon and US Open. He will lose from the same lead against Nadal in the FO

Nadal will win AO, Wimbledon and US Open

Federer will win FO

An unknown British 17 year old will win the Olympics

Murray will not win any tournaments but his match wins will include double bagels over Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. He will also finish the year as number one

Ferrer will win the WTF

Maybe not as crazy as 2011 but it would be fun to watch

I'll have a £5 accumulator on that. Then when it comes up I'll be a millionaire and give Hawkeye 20% of my winnings.

I actually think Murray has quite a good, dry sense of humour. The difficulty is as you say in staying awake, because that tone of voice... best cure for insomnia I've found yet

The WTA provides some excitement, and is dominated by young players with good serves and all-court games.

On secong thoughts, you said surprising or crazy, not downright miraculous...

Yeah, he does have a good sense of humour. He said the match v Nadal was tough.
