How France will win.
First topic message reminder :
France will follow the same tactics as they did against England.
Main tactics..
1. Dominate the forwards as they did against England.
2. Create pressure and penalties.
3. Keep the scoreboard ticking over. They wont turn down kicks at goal (alá Ireland) and expect to see them attempting drop goals at every opportunity in the first 20 - 30 mins.
4. The do not give away many penalties and while there defense fell apart abit against NZ they showed last week that they have a strong defense and as noted dont give away too many penalties.
I dont think we can expect a swashbuckling performance from their backs or that they will attempt to run the ball at every opportunity. I think that they will hold onto the ball as much as possible they will (unlike Ireland) maul the ball and pick and go around the fringes keeping the defense honest, they then get one of the second rows running hard in midfield (around 10 metres from the previous ruck) and look for quick ball of that situation. It is here where they punished England in the first half.
Big test for Wales in the physicality stakes but they have handled SA and Ireland so if they can keep their shape and dont let the French forwards through the middle then it bodes well for them. We have yet another tremendous back row battle and front row battle.

If we were to get rid of Deccie who would you replace him with Gibbo? (Honest question)
Its obvious. So obvious, I'm not going to say it. Because I don't want to lose him. My province needs him.
Ireland have taken our scrum-coach away. The biggest factor in us progressing at all imo. They are NOT getting our Coach.
Your province is not mine mo chara I have no such aversion

Mr Gibson...you are like a child who gets bored of their new toy I think..move on to the next thing until you get bored of that.
so is your objection to Kidney because he is from Cork or do you actually have some analysis to go with it, considering that while the loss last weekend was disappointing I cant figure how you can blame Kidney for it?

Also Eddie O'Sullivan won us a number of triple crowns and while he didnt get the holy grail his win ratio is pretty good (as is Kidneys....so we have had two relatively successful coaches...possibly could have done better who knows its in the past. As a Galway man I dont care where they come from but clearly you do.
Who should we get...forrest gump maybe or how about Martin Johnson...looks like he will be at a loose end in a couple of weeks. You appear to be someone who would appreciate a manager like Johnson.
Newbie, I apologise, if my statement was in any way derogatory man.
I have been watching us falter from one disaster to another, for over 30 years now. It just pishes me off.
Triple Crowns have long meant nothing in a World rugby perspective. That's the problem with our sporting-psyche. We are far too happy with our effin mediocre lot!
I want change. Feicin NOW.
Soft day, tank Allah.

Ah it was just a come-out-and-play WUM, for me aul Cork pal DOD.
Steady Eddie. Deaglain O Duinn. 10 years post-Gatland. No progress. None. Complete waste of the talent we had. They were - and are, not good enough to take us to the next level. That much is fact.
Kidney learned, far too late for this gig, that youth was the way to go. I said it two years ago. Kidney does it months before a RWC.
I rest my proven case

I dont think triple crowns are acceptible now but what it shows is a level of consistency we never had....I am from an older era back in the 70's even (clearly with a handle like Gibson you understan that) and like the fact we are there or thereabouts. Can we get better, absolutely...
Personally I think the players mucked up last weekend not kidney....a first win in the SH against and SH side, won our group, unlucky in the QF...

Re: How France will win.
Listen Irish posters, I'll start a thread on it. Attack/discuss it there.
This is Wales' time. Let them enjoy it. They deserve that. They earned it.
Even if a lot of them did want Gatland sacked before the RWC.

Newbie,
Respect Sir. I think we have both felt the same pain.
We are far more consistent. Far better than we ever were. Mainly due to the players we had in that time. But, the incompetent management abused that time. Only France beats us on consistency in the 6-N. Its true. But it wins feic all.
That's my point.

Ah, just in from the battle.
"I dont think we can expect a swashbuckling performance from their backs or that they will attempt to run the ball at every opportunity."
Welcome to a RWC semi-final. Pragastism, risk free options, defence....and take your points when they are on offer.
The last one that went against that grain was NZ v France in 1999. Everyone learned from that one.
Two more close s/f coming up.

He knows his schitt, that Hound. I think it's called experience.
France have been here before. 5 times. I think that gives them a great edge tbh. Now that the main players are by-passing Leivermont that is.
