John Terry denies racism claim

John Terry has categorically denied making a racist slur against Anton Ferdinand during Chelsea's West London derby defeat at QPR.

Videos have circulated on the internet in the aftermath of Sunday's Premier League match at Loftus Road, with some claiming the footage shows Blues captain Terry insulting Rangers defender Ferdinand using racist language.

But Terry said tonight in a statement issued to Press Association Sport: "I've seen that there's a lot of comments on the internet with regards to some video footage of me in today's game.

"I'm disappointed that people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand.

"I thought Anton was accusing me of using a racist slur against him. I responded aggressively, saying that I never used that term.

"I would never say such a thing, and I'm saddened that people would think so.

"I have known Anton for a long time and spoke to him about it after the game and there was no problem between us.

"I congratulated him on their win. He has not accused me of any wrongful remark.

"It was clear it was all a misunderstanding at the time.

"After the result today, I am saddened to be dealing with these wrongful allegations.

"I am the proud captain of one of the most internationally diverse teams in the Premier League and I absolutely believe that there is no place for racism in sport and indeed in any walk of life."

QPR declined to comment when contacted on Sunday night.

He has been linked with previous slurs in the past involving Ledley King.

Watched the video several times and there is no doubt he call Ferdinand an effing black kumquat.

He truly is a div and if he isn't severely punished then what is the point in this whole 'Stamp Racism out' campaign?

This will get brushed under the carpet because it's John Terry . You can clearly see what he says you dont need to be lip reader .

With the Evra Suarez incident still being investigated it will be interesting to see what the FA do about JT .

They will probably turn round and say they cant do anything as Ferdinand hasn't complained .

I remember in the CL final against Man U when he spat on Carlos Tevez, it was clear as day, and nothing was done; I suspect this will have a similar outcome, despite from the footage seeming obvious again

I wouldn't put it past Terry, he is after all one of the thickest players around.

Storm in a teacup, to me; and if it weren't Terry, I suspect a lot of others would be saying the same. The idea that the video going round on YouTube is 'conclusive' or 'obvious' is absolute nonsense. I'm no Terry fan at all - far from it, actually. But I'd imagine that any player who is racially abused during a match would report this to the authorities. Ferdinand hasn't and, as the rest of the evidence against Terry is flimsy to say the least, I think we'd do well to remember the 'innocent until proven guilty' dictum, as well as leaving out Terry's past misdemeanours which, while often disappointing, have nothing to do with this case.

Just tried to watch the video and it seems to have been completely wiped from the internet by the Premier League. That's both impressive and scary, how the hell have they done that...

Ferdinand has said he didn't know what was said until after the game and Clint Hill Paddy Kenny and Shaun Derry have backed him up

But Capellos meant to be calling him up to the England squad for the upcoming friendlies which is a bit stupid espicially if they find him guilty after it itll make a mockery of the kick it out campaign

I think Capello has to pick Terry, it's innocent until proven guilty remember. He's the captain and they have to stand by him until there is a verdict that makes him guilty.

But that leaves a dilemma if you pick Terry do you pick Rio?

neither should be picked in my opinion because Rios gone and Terry is on his way fast but can you play him beside the brother of the guy hes meant to have abused. If Terry had any decency which we know he hasn't he'd ask to be excluded so he can clear his name
