Despite all the attention on Dan Wheldon death people seem to have forgotten there were other people seriously hurt as well from the race.

Will Power has been diagnosed with a compression fracture following the accident he was involved in during the Las Vegas IndyCar event.

The Australian undewent further tests in Indianapolis on Monday as he was experiencing back pains following the crash, despite being released from hospital with no evidence of significant injuries following the accident.

On Monday, however, series orthopedic specialist Dr. Terry Trammell determined that Power suffered a compression fracture of his fourth thoracic vertebra.

Power is expected to recover from the injury with rest and rehabilitation.

Fellow IndyCar driver Pippa Mann, meanwhile, will undergo surgery today to rebuild the right side of her hand she injured in the same crash.

"Need replacement blood vessels, nerves, stealing a tendon from my wrist and a skin graft," she explained on her Twitter account.

Its very common for the media to 'get lost' in the main story, particularly when there is the horiffic and sad passing of a driver, as was the cases of Wheldon & Simoncelli. I wondered what the injuries Will Power might had suffered and am not suprised that he has at the very least a compression fracture. The same thing has occured with Moto GP and the injury suffered by Axel Pons in the Moto2 race in malaysia which was eventually red flagged. Axel Pons remains in hospital in Kuala Lumpur under observation after suffering a 'sub-cranial haematoma', but this has rarely been mentioned within the media.

Best wishes to both and hope they make full recoveries, in time.

Have to admit I'd not heard about their injuries, with all the attention given to Wheldon and Simoncelli.
